31

I spotted this deal in their mailing list. Cheapest you can find is $118.50. I think is a clever product. You plug it to your wireless router or modem/router and your aerial and you can watch TV from your iPad or Laptop at home. check the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P_Om5d2z8k

  • Interesting product, but I can't find the iPad App (Homefree player) on the Australian store. Where abouts is it available?

  • Dont know about the IPAD, but for laptop or Desktop, this is a bit expensive, you can easily get a digital tuner for laptops under 30 dollars from ebay.
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/USB-HDTV-TV-tuner-DVB-T-4-Laptop-PC-R…
that too without the glitch of TV antenna and you can play it outdoors too.

Those cheap TV tuners are not good. They may look cheap but they are a waste of money. Mainly their software and drivers are really bad. When buying a TV tuner you need to buy one from a known brand like ASUS, gigabyte, Avermedia, Compro, etc. You need to make sure the software is good and the manufacturer updates the drivers.

Also, a USB tv tuner will need a good antenna connection too. Some of them come with a mini antenna, but unless you live in an area with an excellent TV reception (nowhere in Australia), it wont work. You would still need to connect it to the house aerial to have a proper reception.

that is why I think the network tv tuner is a good idea. you get one tv tuner for all your computers. you plug it to the house aerial. All the comptuers get tv wirelessly, no need to use an antenna or to connect a bulky usb tuner that anyway needs the antenna. Where is the portability on that?

      • Yes, you are right. I have not used them myself, so cannot say USB ones are any good. Cheap China ones are available for even 15 dollars.
Is this device a good brand?

Interesting… I'd prefer this to the USB tuners, they keep crashing on me.. Also, you don't need a dongle and cable to watch tv on the laptop.. if it only had linux support…

  • This is an awesome idea! You only need the one unit for all your wireless/wired devices. (Rather than a dongle for each laptop/Pc etc.. + the bonus of watching on iPad.. i wonder about Android?)

I saw a demonstration of this device on Wed and the streaming didn't seem all that great. The content was pretty choppy on the iPad and that was with a clear line of sight to the device across 10m or so.

I've been watching live TV on my iPad for a while now with Orb Live. Use any tv dongle connected to a PC with the orb live software installed and watch TV on the iPad over a network.

  • if you can watch it in a browser it'd be awesome

    but with custom apps? hmmm

  • This is a bit like a Slingbox, yes?

    • Slingbox can stream over the internet, in any remote pc or mobile device.
This product is limited ONLY inside the home(wired or wireless) network.

      • GregFiona ?????

you can control your home slinbox and watch channels over 3G on your mobile devices while you are on the move…

Does Slingbox have built in digital tuners ?

  • if this allowed additional inputs to the box like Foxtel or DVD player, i'd consider getting one…

      • i didn't say slingbox and this item are similar! i was just pointing out the differences to Pobman!
i'm not interested at all in the built -in digital tuners as all of my favorite channels are on foxtel plus my satellite decoder so to me (and to you i suppose) having a slingbox makes more sense

i'm interested in this because it means I'll be able to watch the footy on my laptop or PC when the kids are watching cartoons on Foxtel…

Sorry…not a bargain. Staticice has got it for 103$

    • Not all the websites in staticice have all what they advertise. Many of them just advertise whatever price to lure customers, but they can not deliver. The company that has it at $103 is one of them, so I thought it shouldn't be counted.

Some other "cheap" companies in static ice disappear after a month or two leaving customers without warranty. Other "cheap" company provide a horrible service. http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/News/237155,msy-targeted-by-accc… . Where is the bargain in that?

A bargain to me is a great product, from a good company, with good service (returns, warranty, prompt delivery, professional customer service, etc), at a great price.

I have been reading ozbargain for a while now and there are many great bargains around, from great companies and products. That's what makes this site worthwile.

Have you got any proof against the site you mention? cause i can say the same about the site in your today's deal! If you want just call the shop and ask them if they sell the item and if they can deliver it!
You guys don't have to take it so personally! The negative vote is for the (not) bargain, not for you!

        • No offense taken. If a bargain is not a bargain, it shouldn't be here :)

I actually did ring them (greenbox it). Initially they "didn't know" if they have it because they had to "check" in their "warehouse" for it. Later they said they may have to order it in. By the way, they charge $6 for pickup (handling), and $18.92 for shipping.

So the real price is $103 + $6 = $109 pickup plus 2 business days lead time or $121.92 shipping 3+ business days lead time.

My point is that the listed price in staticice is not reliable unless you can confirm that they have the product, and that there are no hidden charges.

Maybe the rule should be to check staticice (or similar) first, and second to ring the company to check if they can deliver what they promise at the price they say.

Can you steam difference channel on difference PC. If everybody have to watch the same channel no use.

    • yes… read the link…

      http://www.expresspcparts.com.au/Items/spe-022-alt-avertv-ho…

The powerful hardware design and dual-tuners provide up to two PCs to watch different HDTV channels at the same time without any video quality loss.

      • Would be the same if I have 2 tunner card in my HTPC and stream using media portal to my laptop.

        • -1

yep, but not everybody has that setup at home… so a device like this could be very useful…

i have a NAS for streaming movies… so streaming live TV, foxtel, dvd, vcr would be good…

  • Can I feed my Tivo Signal into it and have it stream that? Then I could use iPhone Tivo remote via Wifi and watch Tivo anywhere in the house on my iPad.
