This is cheap. Good quality too. Don't get the GPS module, mine was acting up and make the camera keep restarting.

    • V1 or V2?

      • -1

        v2

        • +1

Was asking which model was having the restarting issue.

        • -6

          @Steptoe:

          He said V2

        • +2

@serpserpserp: f38r1 didn’t mention a version number in his comment.

        • +1

          @Slave1:

          Exactly 👍

      • +1

I think V1 coz I bought it quite a while ago

    • +9

You shouldn't be connecting the power into the GPSmodule. Connect it into the camera and it won't disconnect.

      • Will the GPS still work?

        • +2

Yes, just made that change today + as an advantage as the contacts tend to disconnect from the gps module (very bad on v1, still apparent on v2), it avoids the dashcam disconnecting if the contacts wear.

      • I have had mine for 3 months with the power supplied via the GPS, it works absolutely fine. I suppose its hit and miss with the GPS modules.

    • gps comes in free, so i guess it is a bonus to have :) why not

    • +1

mine is happening the same thing, how did you fix it up ?
      remove the GPS unit ?
      thanks
I thought it was poorly made, didn't even last for a year

      • +4

Just plug the usb power cable into the camera unit insead of the gps module. Still works with gps features.

        • +1

          Thanks mate,
          no longer random restarting !!!

        • +1

          @bbh30: glad i could help!

    • +1

The gps model also comes with a few non gps mounting bases too so if you don't like gps just mount it on these. Or connect directly through the camera USB point

    • +1

I agree, the GPS modules has QC issues: though I still prefer to use it for reference of speed in a crash or speeding ticket. Just plug the power directly into the camera instead.

    • It caused again by the poor electrical contact between the GPS and camera body. You can try to remove the camera and clean the contact. A lot of contact issue with the GPS module.

    • Mine kept restarting too until I did a firmware update which resolved the issue! Was driving me crazy…

not a gps model, and not express posted either

    • any idea on how to make that code work ?

      • think you have to put it in at paypal payment stage

      • +1

The code is “PICK5” (a 5 instead of an S) as per this post which give you 5% off a spend over $30 on ebay.

    • Thanks s4nju - got one!

  • +2

Are you sure it comes with GPS?
    "Support GPS Logger (Optional)"
    "GPS Logger Support (Optional)"

    • confirmed, gps module included

      • +2

Where does it say on the website?

        • +3

          @djsammysyd:

          Listing itself says optional.

Up the top in text: Support GPS Logger

Down the bottom in the picture: GPS Logger | With GPS module (optional accessory)

The things in the listing which suggest it does come with the GPS is that the module is pictured attached, and the SKU is a119+G (which could be referring to the G-sensor).
EDIT: just checked the A119S listing which does show the GPS module attached but again - 'optional'.

          TL;DR it's not clear enough

        • +1

          @downthunder:

They need to clarify it in their listing, it's not immediately obvious and if an Ozbargainer were to not receive a GPS module, they could go 'well we didn't say it was included!'

        • +2

@kwchaz: They must of updated the website because it says it's included:

Support GPS Logger (included in the “2018A119” sales event)

        • +1

          @4wd:

lol enough whinging on Ozb does actually achieve something! :D Thanks everyone.

I had one in each car since August, great videos but one died due to heat, the other starting to play up. Not too sure about quality and how well these hold up in heat of Australian summer, despite the super cap.

    • Capacitors in mine failed over winter, bought mine from Gbest….going to try fix myself.
Unit records OK but does not shut down correctly(shuts off instantly) and final 3min file is corrupted.
Only found out it was faulty after trying to view files after a carpark bingle….bugga.

    • I had the same thing. Mine just warped, something inside must have melted. Otherwise it was an amazing dashcam.

    • What size SD do you recommend? i.e. how much video will you fit on a 32gb card?

  • What’s the difference between 119S V2 and this one?
    Any one know??

    Thanks

    • +2

Sony sensor in the 119S, different low light performance. There are comparison videos on YT which will explain it better than anyone else. V2 exists for 119 and 119S, it's to do with the pin attachment and ensuring electrical contact.

      • +1

So which is better in quality and performance?

        • +2

Better lowlight performance for 119s, but no 1440p (?) recording. Review I read on one of the dashcam review sites on the weekend said get the 119s unless you need 1440p recording.

  • Is it shipped from Aus or overseas? Also, is the payment gateway in Aus or overseas like Nike Aus website? Dont want international charges

      • Thanks. Thinking to get the 119s model.

  • +3

Was hopeing they'll do a deal for the A119S + GPS version for $10 extra or something. Need the GPS for speed and time log.

  • Never had a dashcam before, which one would people recommend for best value around this price?

    • +2

A119S seems to be the recommendation

      • I am keen. The model that the Op posted is the A119 not the A119S yes? Just wanted to be sure.

  • Thanks for the share!

  • +1

Been using this for few months now, with GPS, happy with the camera, no issues so far. Did a firmware update on day 1, with Samsung 64 GB Card. For some reason lighter in my car has power even after car is turned off, tested their motion sensor function works very well, it even triggers when there r some moving clouds. Although I don't use this, feel like wasting card's life, but that's just me. Good thing is from outside you can hardly notice there is camera. Happy to help if someone have any questions, just be nice I am not a sales person, helping the community.

    • Bought the A119s with gps and it's been good for the 1 week im using

      • I also saw the reviews of 119S,better image quality than 119. But it wasn't on sale and I didn't have the patience. In my opinion the GPS version is better more information like location and speed.

    • Would you say a 32GB SD card would be sufficient for the camera? Thanks!

      • +2

That's what im using currently but im going to upgrade to 64gb just for ease of mind sake. But don't use san disk brand on viofo. Apparantly lots of problem with data integrity when using that card on the dashcam.

      • +2

I would also say get at least 64 GB, the bigger the space the longer the card lives, as rewriting cycles will kill it sooner than later. I think it can support upto 128, but that's up to you.

    • Does it come with the adapter for the lighter to USB? Also you said that if it's still on even when the engine is off - will it heavily drain your car battery?

      • +2

Yes, it comes with the cigarette adapter and a very long micro usb cable. Not all cars has their cigarette lighter on constantly. My car certainly doesn't. But if yours were to stay on constantly, i would think it would drain that much battery if you are dailying your car. It's another story if you were ti leave it garaged like 1-2weeks. I'd imagine it would drain the battery. Or the other solutiin is to hard wire it to the fuse box just like i did. Viofo sells the hard wire kit if your after that.

      • It came with everything, the pulg provided had two USB ports, USB cable was lengthy enough for me to hide it under the carpet and plastic covers in the pillars. Yes it does drains the battery, but I didn't notice anything because i am driving on daily basis. If you leave your car for longer time, it might have some impact, but i would assume when you are planning to leave your car for such a long time it should be in a garage anyways or perhaps you don't need the camera in such situation.

        • Do you have to remove the plastic covers on the pillars to install it?

        • +1

          @kiitos:
I was able to pull one side of cover and pushed the cable inside as i wanted to hide the cable, even manged to hide in the ceiling cover. if you don't want or your car is new, package came with adhesive hooks(few of them), they can also be used

  • I've got that GPS module rebooting issue, had to remove the dash cam and press on the contacts a few times, then put it back and it would work for a couple of hours. Still, it's a good unit.

I'd be happy to buy more from Viofo. Maybe the WR1 is better than the A119/A119S as a rear dash cam? Certainly the polariser would be handy for steep windscreens. It's an issue on our Golf, but not so much on the Forster.

It's cheaper from Banggood buying from their AU Warehouse, paying in USD with coupon code b71c67 (for 12% off Automobile & Motorcycle)

Works out to be US $60.71 shipped (~AU $77.47) + Cash Rewards. BUT there are currently only 6 left!

    • Too late now…only us or cn warehouse shown now. I'm guessing its gone right?

    • AU warehouse not avaliable. I'm guessing it's sold out :(

      • +1

Nope, just bought one now for US$60.71, there were 3 left before purchase.

        Thanks Tink!

EDIT: 5 minutes later, 0 stock at AU warehouse.

    • +1

good find but no GPS logger though

    • Seems this model has a lot issue with power stay on. https://www.amazon.com/Official-VIOFO-Logger-1440p-Camera/pr…
It's better buy it from local in case something goes wrong.

  • +2

What is the parking mode like in these units? I'm getting conflicting info about whether it works effectively or not.

    • +2

Works well but the unit needs hard-wiring or plug it into a USB power bank when you turn off the ignition. Had to get the NRMA out to jump-start my car after the unit flattened my battery because I absentmindedly left parking mode on overnight when I was playing around in the menu. https://youtu.be/G9vRHZ3cAjc?t=5m31s

      • Do you mean to say you left your car ignition 'on' in the accessories position? I can't imagine a small unit like this would run the battery flat.

        • Nope. It was drawing power continuously from the cig lighter for about 10 hours and flattened the battery.

        • @Chateau:
You need a new car battery or get the charger checked. A a119s plus gps shouldn't "flatten" the car battery after ten hours.

        • @whooah1979: It's a new car. It wasn't "flat" in the true sense of the word. The headlights, dash lights, cabin lights all worked fine, but it didn't have enough juice left to turn over the ignition, just got the dreaded 'clicking' sound when turning it over.

  • Sounds great. Was looking for one of these.

  • Have one used it for over a year without GPS (as GPS doesn't hold up legally here). Those With heat issues do bear in mind that it's only designed for say 60-70-80C which on a hot summer day can get close to in a car. Check CarCamCentral videos on YouTube where he chucks them in his oven - makes mention in there somewhere about heat resistance ratings.

  • Is it v1 or v2?

    • -1

      Zuko: Did Jet just… die?

Sokka: You know, it was really unclear.

  • Is wr1 better than a119/a119s? Any personal experiences.

  • +1

Not sure if I should buy this or not, as I need a replacement for my dashcam. I have the A119S and it melted in the Perth summer heat, the buttons are now unclickable, the GPS module is not working correctly and it has trouble recording correctly. The video files goes out as corrupted and can't be viewed in VLC or MPC-HC video players.

  • Mine just died due to the heat the other day
    Freezes when starts up

Gotta see if I can claim warranty
    Bought mine from ebay

  • Seems to be $129 now? :(

    • +1

If you input the discount code supplied in the post (2018A119) when at the checkout stage it brings the price down 30% to $90.30

      • Thanks mate. Thought I did that but must have stuffed it up.

  • Just bought one. It may be more expensive than banggood or any other store but Australian warranty in case something goes wrong is worth it.

  • been looking at this cam for a while now, thanks

  • I've been considering getting a dashcam also but would prefer one that captures rear footage also for tailgaters. Any recommendations? They don't seem to be that popular.

    • +2

at this price, just get 2.

      • Never thought about that, thanks!

      • +1

Works a treat esp if you drive an SUV and have a power outlet in the back. :)

  • Thanks for the share, just ordered one

  • Do these come with all the cables, and connections, etc.?

  • Thanks op, was looking for one.

  • +2

    Damn the 2018A119 code doesn't work for A119S =(

  • thanks!
    got one

  • please excuse my ignorance, but what does the GPS do?

    • +2

records speed, time and coordinates while you travel so you can see these once video files been imported to computer by thirdparty softwares, visdually see where veicles been traveled to @ what speed and time on google map, pretty useful i guess.

      • +3

Can you disable the speed (from being shown) on the footage :P
