  • yes aldi having on 20 jan (table saw 250mm $149)

    • Yeah, I have been trying to find a copy of the catalogue online

      • +1

Hardcopies of the catalogues always seem to be in store a few days ahead of being able to find them online.

    • The Aldi Table Saw also includes an additional blade.

  • Anyone used the circular saw?
I want to use it cutting mostly pine sleepers, but some hardwood planks.

    • +1

Depends on how many cuts and how deep. Cordless have their place, but don’t always replace corded variety.

    • I've got the Aldi 18V circular saw.
      Works great for structural pine.
Works okay for treated wet pine posts. Can get a bit stuck (I think due to the wet treatment) and not big enough to go the whole way through obviously. I imagine sleepers would be the same.
I don't think it would be much good for thicker hardwood planks. You'd be better off corded. Fine for 20mm decking planks though.

    • I got the corded Hitachi for $98 & its good value. The baseplate is a single piece extruded metal which "extends" a few mm up the sides. The cheapest circular saws have a folded metal baseplate with bits rivited on.

    • It all comes down to how many times you want to use it.

Will it see you through a handful of sleepers? Probably.

Will it see you through that plus some other big jobs around the house? Probably not.

Keep expectations realistic and you’ll be fine.

  • I bought one of the earlier versions of the Ozito table saw when it was $99. This one looks a little more advanced but I have a feeling some of the basic flaws are probably still there? Namely a not-so-easy-set fence and useless loose mitre slot?

I'd only buy this saw again if you were willing to mod it or enhance it; like I'm planning to build a sled to make mine usable.

Having the Ozito 18V circular saw has let me avoid using the table saw for a while, albeit less convenient having to measure and set up the jigs and stuff for each cut.

The saw looks like a good deal. I remember their previous match attempt being pretty poor but I luckily came across a store "clearing" the Ozito circular saw kit for $99.

  • Ozito have released some circular saw blades to buy depending on the job you need to do:

    18 Tooth - https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-150mm-18-to…
    36 Tooth - https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-150mm-36-to…

Just be aware that the table saw does not make perfect cuts. So if you want to build high quality woodwork that requires perfect mitre cuts then avoid this tool as the cuts never seem to line up properly cf with my makita table saw. Perfect for other diy jobs where precision is not required.

    • My old GMC mitre saw had exactly the same problem.

Must be made by the same mob.

    • Agree. I bought mine thinking I'd get nice cuts. It's been useless except for ripping which I don't do much of. Taking up precious shed space now! It's gotta go!

  • I take it Ozito and aldi saws are made by the same company so no point asking which one "might" be better.

    • Yeah, this must be the most common table saw on the earth, marketed under many different brands
