I brought one yesterday from Scorptec.

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA/67…

Sure it is 80 bucks more expensive, but it is a Amp Extreme 1080.

Might be worth the upgrade for SOME people.

But yeah a lot of news on Video card price going up, so I pulled the trigger.

    • yeah they have the zotac mini for 699 too https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA/68…

cooling is kind of meh, but it's so tiny!

      • Yeah I thought about the mini, it is like 80 dollars cheaper.

But I really hate Noisy card, and performance level of the Amp Extreme is really strong.

I want to move a new M-atx build later this year, so having a very powerful cooling hence quiet PC is ideal for me.

Like I said, for some people might be worth saving that 80 dollars and go for the mini.

Just from reviews I read, it is noisy (due to cooling bit weak) and not overclocked heavily like the Amp extreme.

I live in Melbourne, so super easy to pick up the card myself, dont have to wait 3 weeks for shipping, might enjoy it as early as possible since I am paying quite a lot for this thing.

I look at reviews, Mini is RRP is like 600 USD (when it first come out) and Amp extreme was like 700 USD. So I figure the extreme was a much better deal.

        • yeah read similar reviews of the mini which put me off, might just save for a Ti (if they drop in price heh).

amp looks like a good one. also handy that scorptec is an official zotac seller too, so you can get the 3 years warranty in Aus now

    • Prices are going up because all the new bitcoin miners.. but new gfx is coming out in 4 months ish if im not mistaken.

There is nothing concrete on that. Even if that is true, it will take a few more months before 3rd party card come out and another few months for price/stock to be at a reasonable state.

And nothing is guaranteed these new cards will have a lot gain on current cards and their price.

So i will take the safe bet now.

I mean that's my personal decision.

Is it an international warranty? If not, this really isn't worth the meagre discount compared to similarly designed 1080s.

    • Bought plenty from Amazon US but never tested out warranty claim. I am sure sure someone on OB can give testimony to this sort of thing.

  • No bargain. As others have said, you can get similar for the same locally.

    • +2

Cheapest locally is $763 via Umart. If you have a link please do share.

      • -3

There you go, $763. Makes it hard to justify not buying locally. Staticice does not list pricing from all sellers. There are links posted above and Shopping Express have one for $749.

you guys are talking about price going up, but if your looking at forecasts, shouldn't you also take into consideration the new 2080 cards coming out in the next few months. should either be the same as the current cards wrt price, or force the current cards to drop substantially. (and also people mining will be selling there 1080s (or 1070) and the surplus of second hand cards should bring in a deal as well)

to keep me going until then, I picked up a second ancient ($35) 5870 to cross fire which hopefully should keep me going until they come down in price.

Oh well in the long term you are right for sure, but timing is crucial here.

We don't know much about 20XX cards right now. Sure Nvidia might release them this year, but they might not.

No one know this for sure, apart form Nvidia ofc. https://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia/nvidia-volta-gpu-specificati…

This said, even new 20XX cards might just go up in price.

Taking a step back even if Nvidia do release new cards and ignore the price right now, it will take a large amount of time before 3rd party make their cards and the store to be filled with them.

All of these take time, for some people who want to upgrade this year, I think it is best to pay now and just enjoy it. Rather than keep waiting, there is ALWAYS reason to wait.

You can wait for 2080, then you can wait for 3rd party 2080, then you have to wait for price to become reasonable. (usually these new cards prices are super high when they first come out, way above RRP)

Of course, there is one more issue about how much better is 2080 comparing to 1080, if the performance gain is only 10-20%, then all these waiting will not worth much?

It is worth remembering at the high end market, Red team has nothing even close to the green team, so why release a card which is 30-40% faster than current 1080/TI? (plus Vega cards have been super inflated from day 1 anyway)

Maybe for you, you can afford to wait, so be it.

      For some others, maybe not.

In the end, i don't think there is right or wrong in this case. (Unless you pay for inflated price down the line, that is BAD). Buy now, you enjoy it right away and you paid NORMAL price (not sale/discount, but not inflated). Wait, well you SHOULD get a better deal, but no one can be sure.

    • The trend is clear in these charts. I can only decide on what I see in the market.

June is the earliest that any of that is going to shift in favour of the everyday consumer, and we don't know how miners will react to nVidia and AMD's next offerings (i.e. how profitable consumer models will be for miners).

What we do know is that there is a RAM and NAND shortage until H2, and that nVidia and AMD will be announcing and/or releasing products from late February onwards. Expect the next-gen Geforce cards to start appearing in June-July 2018 IMO.

mining has became profitable again over the last month with the increase in price in cryptos.

The new gfx cards will not hash that much higher than the current gen, expect maybe 10-15% more hashes so for miners they might not sell their old cards but rather expand their mining operations on the new cards making the new cards cost even more especially when they are first released when stock levels are low.

    • mining has became profitable again over the last month with the increase in price in cryptos.

      1. Mining has been profitible in AU for nearly a year (after power and tax).
      2. Nobody touches GTX 1080's for mining because it's better to get a GTX1070 (cheper and faster).
      • Where can i learn more about mining? any good websites?

      • yep always profitable but with the recent price of ETH growth, its become so much more profitable that pushes the GPU prices up.

gtx1080s are not that bad for mining depending on algorithm.

  • I will wait til EOFYS

I used to be a pc gamer.

Nowadays its so much cheaper to run both consoles with 4k gaming and tvs.

Soooo I would to thank Nvidia in particular for saving me a bucketload of cash and time this year.

  • How are these still so expensive? I got a 1080ti from computer alliance 6 months ago for $894. www.ozbargain.com.au/node/314043

    • Recently there is a huge spike of video card price in US.

People are in fear that this spike will hit Australia soon as well.

Mostly driven by increasing price of RAM and Mining.

      • It's that and also because this isn't a bargain. This card was standard price $719 at Umart earlier this month. I'm not sure which day it got jacked up to $749 but I think it was just in the last day or few. Wasn't a bargain then, isn't a bargain now at $694 inc. international warranty issues.

        • Lowest price shipped = bargain. It's not rocket science to work out what makes something a bargain.

There is no time-aspect to bargain if you want to buy right now. Otherwise nothing is a bargain cause it all goes down eventually (more often) or in the past was cheaper (less often).

        • @swapsey: Apparently it is rocket science for you. Lowest price shipped isn't a bargain. If it was there's millions of products around the world we could be listing.. every item in existence has a lowest current shipped price. Personally I don't really mind that you've posted it, it is arguably the best current price on GTX1080's and they are in high demand from miners so it is useful information to share, but it isn't a bargain.

        • @Joku: I can now see why you have offered no posts on OB. Oh well, I still see the value in these lowest prices for people like me shopping for a GTX 1080 in this unusual climate. I will leave you to decide for yourself what a bargain is. Each their own.

graphics card are a rip at these prices.

Gamers should move for the time being to console instead and save. Buy the new pc games when they get cheap - that don't take long anymore -and when the parts makers work out their market has halved guess what will happen.

Negging practicality and common sense is par here. I mean look at Intel taking the piss with no backwards mobility on their new chip - even with a 17 year old exploit sat there for those in the know.

Once everyone had access they decided to hold up their hand and demand that AMD take a performance hit too. Only in the insane world of computer gaming would this shit fly - screens are another rip these days.

  • Not showing price any reason why?

    • It seems that seller has expired/sold out of their deal. This deal is now expired.
