Watching Live Tennis: Is It OK to Let Your Kid Speak or Do You Have to Keep Shushing Her All The Time?

I am thinking about taking my 3 years talkative girl to watch Australian Open live matches.

I am not sure whether I should keep her strictly quiet when they are on a rally, or is it okay for her to speak (not too loud of course).

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

Definitely not OK as a rule of thumb.

For the outdoor courts where people are constantly walking by its OK but not if you are in the stands. Definitely not at MCA or Show Courts.

You'll get a sense when you're there and there is a huge open area where you can take a break, run around, get some freebies/food/drinks. Good for kids.

You can probably get away with very quiet talking in Hisense if you are very near the back. But be careful, you're in for anything from nasty stares to being asked to leave if you are too noisy during play.

you can only talk during the applause and breaks.

3 year old rug-rats should not be at the AO tennis in the first place.

  • Talking when the players are in action is disrespectful. I'm thought it was common knowledge.

  • Young children should not be attending tennis matches, take him/her to a big bash league T20 cricket match instead.

Would suggest going on day 1-2 with a ground pass and going around the outside courts, muhh more enjoyable if you dont need to see the top players.

You'll also be a lot closer on the outside courts too!

      This.

I think you'll be too stressed out making sure that she's not being too loud to enjoy yourself. Whereas, if you're outside, you can actually enjoy yourself.

Take her when she understands whats going on. I'd imagine it'd be so boring for a 3 year old to just sit and be quiet for 60+ minutes.

Definitely not - very bad etiquette. Wait until she's a bit older and the attention span may be better.

  • Put yourself in the shoes of the player and you will know the answer.

    You need a babysitting deal.

Take her to a Kyrgios or Tomic match, would be a laugh

  • Thanks everyone for the much appreciated advice. I've decided not to take her to tennis this year, big bash is a good idea though
