  • do they sell note8 in blue?

    • Nope, unfortunately they don't sell the Deep Sea Blue Colour. I highly recommend the Maple gold for the Note 8 though. Looks really nice. Very happy that I chose gold over black.

      • +1

But it's the most expensive. I recommend Orchird Grey.

  • Unlocked?

    • Yep it's fully unlocked. I'm on Optus and works perfectly fine. Also tested it on Aldi Mobile and it works.

  • TRS return possible?

    • I don't think so, it's HK stock. Aus stock is available, but it's more expensive even after code+trs.

  • +2

Since the invoice normally has the price before the 20% discount, will this mean it will be slugged with tax by customs as it makes this >$1000?

    • +7

Amaysim takes care of import/ customs tax. As I mentioned, I purchased my Note 8 from Amaysim for $1145 ($916 after discount), and I didn't get charged tax.

      • Did Amaysim send you an invoice/receipt with the package?

        • I didn't get a physical invoice. Only PayPal Invoice from e-mail. I think you can ask them through live chat or eBay to send an invoice.

  • Has anyone claimed warranty from Amaysim? How does it compare with Samsung Australia warranty?

    • +3

      I have. It doesn't exist.

      • That's disappointing if that's the case, which makes me want to hold out for Aus stock note 8 :(

        • +2

I was going to ask the same, maybe the title should be updated to say 3rd party warranty, not officially Samsung warranty

        • +1

Yeah I asked two times and they said their warranty department will call me. Never happened.

They also send really terrible charging cables because it is not local stock. The cable they sent me split in two after a few days.. lucky i had other ones sitting around from old phones.

        • +4

@mitchellp: Shouldn't the cables be the same regardless? It's the adapter that would be different.

        • +1

they changed cables as well to some cheap aftermarket things.

    • +2

My experience - bought note8 from their website when it launched. When I opened satchel, there was no bubble wrap, just phone box inside the satchel. Phone worked but I was concerned that it might crap out any time as the box had various dents on it.

Raised case and took a week for their manager to contact me and ended up shipping this unit back and got a new package sent to me.

A bit of a hassle and took a little while but at least they did something.

      • Dam that would be concerning. Considering it is a $1000 phone, the least they could do is bubble wrap it.

But they must be improving their packaging. Mine came well bubble wrapped with like 2 layers. This was then packed inside a cotton cloth bag which had the Amaysim logo on it.

        • Yeah. I was one of the first to order. My replacement was wrapped nicely inside a cloth bag too. Kudos for the improvement.

    • Did you get the note 8 for $650 or the s8?

      • S8. Don't know why I'm being downvoted for stating facts but meh.

        • People suspect you are lying

    • Liar

      • +1

Call me a liar all you want. I know what I got and jealousy isn't going to change anything :)

  • If HK stock, is this N9500/Qualcomm ?

    • +1

This is the SM - N950F/DS variant. It has the Exynos processor.

      • Is that the same or worse than the Jbhi\HN $998 chip?

        • +1

The local Australian Note 8 (JB/HN/TGG etc…) also uses the Exynos Processor.

  • OP,
Was your Note8 still Samsung factory sealed when it arrived?
I assume it's grey import G950FD. Does it support 2 x 4G SIMs at the same time? The specs say "One 3G/4G SIM and One 2G SIM"
Do you know the country stock?

    • +5

If you are referring to the Samsung Seal on the box, I think it may have been opened and then sealed again with an "Amaysim Quality Assurance" sticker. But the phone inside the box looked untouched. The phone and all the other accessories still had the Samsung wrapping around them. It even came with the Samsung Note 8 clear case inside the manual/documentation box.

I tried putting two sims into the device, one Sim is 4G and the other is automatically placed as a 3G sim. So You can have one sim for data using 4G and the other for calls/texts using 3G. You cannot have both of them using 4G at the same time. But the software built for managing the sim cards allows you to interchange which sim uses 4G and which uses 3G really fast. (No need to reboot each time you want to change.)

I downloaded an application to check the country stock. It says the CSC Country is Taiwan/TW.

  • +3

Bought one from this company before x mas,two things I wanna mention here before you guys pay for it.

    1. Bixby linked with taobao (chinese kinda ebay)

    2. doesn't support Samsung pay, and region is fixed to China.

those 2 functions cannot be modified without flashing au Rom.

    • Lol I didn't even try Bixby. Installed an app to remap the button to launch google assistant from Day 1. I might try it out later on.

The Samsung Pay thing is a let down from these imported models, especially after using it on my Galaxy S6 for so long. Using Android Pay now, not supported at some local shops, but works at most major supermarkets.

  • DO NOT BUY FROM AMAYSIM.

They sent me a broken phone and were impossible to contact for warranty. After a few attempts i gave up and just kept the broken phone.

    • +1

what happened to it to make it broken?

      • I purchased an S5 because i wanted to use the infrared for the aircon/tv. The day I got the phone and went to use the IR and it doesn't work.

        • +1

are you sure it wasnt the app

        • +1

Yeah. Looked at it a bit and found you can watch for a purple Infrared beam with another camera. This phone has the slightest purple dot when using any app whereas another S5 i checked was a solid beam.

  • +1

worth buying this with s9 coming out so soon?

    • +15

      I'm waiting for Note 20.0

      • good to know

      • Note 21 is where it's at

    • +1

Wait for S9 unless you need a stylus.

    • S-series do not have S-pen. I don't know much about the technical specs, but you'd probably need to wait nearly a year for S9 price to come down to this level (if it is indeed $884).

      • No you wouldn't. The S series is cheaper than the Note series to begin with. You should see S9+ for this Note 8's price or better within a few months.

    • +1

Yep, specs are tempting. Time to fork out another $900 for 25 more grams of Samsung. Had Note 5 for two years and were very happy with it. Having S-pen is healthy (for fingers). Sometimes may become boring but you can always use your fingertips as well. It's main advantage is it's use to capture part of the screen and to write on photos etc using 'Air commands'. These air commands are unavailable in S8-S9 etc.

Only downside for Note 5 was 32GB memory which required me to delete my stuff a few times in the past year. I imagine 64GB + SD card would be a whole lot better. Ram is also 6GB compared to 4GB, which was already great for opening 5-6 apps same time. Plus, I think water resistant feature is really good as the 'home button' in my Note 5 got screwed because of water getting under it.

      • I heard that N8's spen is not good as N5's spen.

        • That would be a downside. What bothers me most is an actual physical button for Bixpy(?). Even if you deactivate it, having a nonfunctional physical button next to volume is annoying. It will be weird to press it for nothing to happen. If I assign some other tasks to it it will still be mixed up with Volume Down an will be accidentally pressed a lot. May be just assigning Volume - function to it to have a redundancy there.

        • @superready: I think you will soon be able to remap that button, if you can't already.

      • I got a note 5 too was a good phone, I'd still be using it if the battery didn't go to shit :( Battery was expanding to the point where the back cover pretty much popped off. I'm not really a fan of the S-pen so a note series doesn't really matter to me it just has more RAM than the s8+. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Any deal for pixel2?

  • +1

Pixel 128gb should be $565 after 20% off
    Not a bad deal

    https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Google-Pixel-in-Quite-Black-Really…

  • +1

My note 8 arrived exactly the same as rosrav, well packaged and sealed in the box, with power adapters and a sim and a bag from amaysim

CSC was UAE and Samsung pay was set for Arab Emerates

Very easy to flash AU rom with odin which allows Australian Samsung pay, phone does not need to rooted to do this

Very happy with it wanted dual sim plus exynos which is rootable

Aussie versions with snapdragon are not rootable

    • +1

Im pretty sure Aussie versions run on exynos aswell. Only US/China ones run on Snapdragon.

      • -1

The one Harvey Norman was selling a few weeks ago for under $1000 for the one day was a snapdragon from what I could tell

        • Bought mine from HN that day and it is
          Exynos.

        • @colcha:

          Good to know thanks
I would have got the Aussie model (if it was exynos) but wanted dual sim

    • mate, can you confirm/comment on my comment about AU ROMs (the very last comment on this post)?

      • +1

        Have responded below

  • I paid $1020 for the 128GB from seller perfect_mission on eBay, this however is a really good price.

  • +2
  • Tempted..

    • +1

Me too, but I'll wait a bit longer.

  • +1

Daughter bought the S8 for $708 fromm amaysim in the previous ebay 20% off sale. Arrived in two weeks (although initial email said 4-5 weeks). Was in sealed box. She is very happy with her purchase, and would buy from amaysim again… :-)

  • +1

Great price for the Note 8. I ordered mine during the eBay 20% Boxing Day sale on 27 Dec - arrived on 4 Jan. Very happy with the speed of delivery.

  • Will they add GST at the customs on arrival? The price on the invoice will probably be original, which is over $1k.

  • Asked them through the eBay message about the local warranty and got an answer like

"The Australian stock…. will be shipped locally and warranty is with the manufacturer."

So does the warranty honour by Samsung Australia?

    • +1

That's for Australian stock, so yes. But the dual sim version is Direct Import, therefore Samsung Australia will not honor the warranty here but Amaysim.

      • Thank you.

  • I was hoping for an Aussie Note 8 to be available for around the $900 in this sale….!

  • Op, can you please put the full price in bracet (price before discount) bcz it would be easier to determine price jack without going through steps of calculating.

    • +1

      Done

  • worth paying the extra from Amaysim? Or cheaper from SS below? $676.08($845.10)
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-64GB-Dual-Sim-4…

    • +1

That price will most likely be price jacked after the 20% of eBay Sale starts. Shopping Square almost always price jacks when an eBay promotion takes place.

    • Does SS give 2 year warranty?

  • Is this the cheapest for the note 8? looking for 2

    • Might be cheapest, or a slight high. However, I don't think anyone else give 2 years warranty on Direct Import but amaysim so worth the deal.

    • You could probably get it a little bit cheaper - $879 @ Vaya eBay Store

But then again it depends on how much the 2yr local warranty means to you. Since Vaya only offers 1yr local warranty.

Other than that they are both the same phone.

  • Deal is on, ordered one. Thanks.

  • From this description it appears that only Australian Stock has 4G compatibility?

    2G bandsGSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 (N950F - Australian stock)
    GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 and SIM 2 (N950FD - Direct import)

    3G bandsHSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 (N950F - Australian stock)
    HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 - SIM 1 Only (N950FD - Direct import)

    4G bandsLTE bands 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(AWS), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 28(700), 32(1500), 66(AWS-3) - (N950F - Australian stock)

    • So, the question: is 1 SIM at 2G and 1 SIM at 3G good enough for a couple of years in Australia (2G has already been phased out with many carriers including Telstra)?

      • +2
        • It has on SIM 1 only (as per both links) but also see comment by spacejase below for a workaround. I don't usually flash ROMS as it is highly risky and if you choose 'wrong' firmware you will more than likely brick your phone.

        • +1

@superready: If having the correct firmware (looks like it is available based on a few comments in this post ) and you know what you are doing then it is great.

        • yeah, strange.. I only had checked Amaysim, Ebay store, description

    • +2

Just flash the AU firmware with odin and if you flash your carriers version you can even use voice over lte, can confirm it works

      • Thanks, will android pay and Samsung pay also work?

        • +1

          100%
Samsung pay WON'T work without flash
Because it wants to load country of origin Samsung pay ie. Arab Emerates or Taiwan wherever it is sourced from

I think Android pay would work regardless but didn't check

        • I can confirm Android Pay works out of the box, no need to flash any software.

  • +1

Flashing is not that scary, all the Australian files you need are on sammobile.com

Generic carrier, telstra, optus and Vodafone

    • Last time I checked they had started to charge for subscription. It used to be free. Can't remember how much it was.
