How many watches do you own?

How many watches do you own? And when is it “enough is enough”? What’s the most expensive watch you bought too? What’s a good box to keep them all in?

    • $40
    • If you need a box, you have too many
    • Tell that to Robert Downey Jr 😂

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0gkzLHONXk&sns=em

      • Yeah - There was a discussion in WUS how his omega is fake lol.

      • I wouldn't know how to get in touch with him

      • If you have a net worth of USD$180 Million, sure you can have a bunch of expensive watches….

    1. Gshock and quartz victorinox.
      Rrp $1000,paid $300.
I want a box to add to but I'm waiting for a bargain
  • +1

Got two old ones that haven't been taken out of a drawer in at least 8 years.

  • Four or so, just cheap ones, wouldn’t mind any recommendations of a good watch about 1k or so. Can these go up in value.

  • +2

zero. would never want or need one.

  • I would recommend a WOLF 1834 Box from amazon. Shipping is heaps cheaper than buying from their website. Skip the ones from eBay as they're pretty terrible to the point I now use them as a strap box.

  • 1 Citizen Ecodrive (~$100), 1 Sinobi (~US$30), 2 Naviforce (~US$20 each), 1 Timex Weekender (~US$50), which I prefer in that order

Also a variety of cheaper Chinese watches that are all rubbish, including Skmei

The Citizen, Sinobi, Timex came on decent bands, everything else ends up on Aliexpress nato-style bands

  • I'm at ~15 watches right now - a mix of traditional watches in quartz and mechanical, as well as a couple of Pebbles & similar. None are high-end, with the most expensive being ~$800 at time of purchase. My daily right now is an Orient Ray that cost ~$180.

I don't think there is ever a point of "enough". Sometimes I want to match what I'm wearing for work/dinner/weddings, sometimes I just want to play with features that maybe my current range didn't have at the time (e.g. ceramic bezels, high-beat movements or phone integration) and sometimes I'm just attracted to a new design or technology.

  • +1

I don't own any standard watches. I've got Samsung Gear S2 and a Pebble Time Steel.

  • +1

I always thought i have about 15 watches but after reading this post and counted them all then I realised I already have 18 watches. Some bought brand new and some pre-owned and I've just run out of space in my watch boxes after my latest acquisition a month ago (a pre-owned one). With watch boxes I just bought those high gloss wooden watch boxes from Ebay and they seem ok, just don't get those fabric/PU leather ones they look horrible.

  • I've got about 4 watches, mostly stuff around ~$200 but with good design. Always get compliments in social gatherings so they are good conversation pieces.

  • I've given/got rid of several watches last year but now I have:

    1) 2015 LG Urbane (the fifth best smartwatch after Pebble, Apple, Gear Frontier, and Huawei)
    2) 2012 Casio Royale
    3) 2004 Seiko Diver's (SNZC35K1)

    4) 2017 $5 (Curren 8023 Black/Rose Gold) Knock-off Concord C1/Seiko Lord SNDD56

  • +2

I got a watch but I find myself taking out my mobile phone to look at the time!

    • I just counted 8 watches but do this exactly most of the time.

  • 1
    $1800 (thanks TRS)

like to buy more though ;(

  • +3

    zero

  • 6 - 8 mainly novelty.

favourite is M&M's by swatch. instant win written on inside of bag.

    haven't seen them in years.

    I don't wear watches.

  • 2
Gear S3 Frontier and a cheap Casio somewhere I don't use.
I keep my Frontier on its charging dock and the Casio in the drawer somewhere.
About $500 it cost, because I got it basically 2 days after release.

  • +1

23 Odd watches (I prefer not to count at this point ahahahaha) with the most expensive being a Glycine Combat Sub Goldeneye.

I don't think there can be enough, although I have recently noticed I take much more consideration before buying a new one recently

    • Do you keep them in their original box or do you have a communal box?

      • I don't keep them in their boxes, but I keep all of the boxes they come in, including their documentation

I store them just in a 20piece watch box I found on ebay

  • Two. One is a fitness band that I wear most of the time. The second is a Casio that I wear when dressing up. That is all.

  • +2

    Ziltch, ZERO, Zip.

  • +1

    1x Rolex
    1x Sony Smartwatch 3
    1x LG G Watch R
    1x Apple iWatch 2
    1x Fitbit Charge
    1x Pulsar Chronograph
    1x Kogan LED Watch
    1x Kingwear KW88

    • Interesting mix there.

A Rolex, a couple of cheap watches and some smart watches.

What's the appeal of smart watches?

      • I work in IT so I enjoyed having tech on my wrist.
iWatch 2 was a prize from work.
Sony SW3 was the first Android watch (bday present) and has built-in maps so it can be independent of the phone.
LG G Watch R has a metal band, so I alternate occasionally depending on the occasion.
The Kingwear KW88 was a watch a friend didn't want anymore..

        • You wear the Rolex much?

        • +1

@JB1: Not as often as the Sony & Pulsar.
Pulsar is my main daily driver, and sony is when i want to want to geek out

  • +4

3 (Casio MTP-1302D-1, Casio W-S200H-1A, Xiaomi Mi Band 2 — all under $30 each). Already 2 more than I need as I can only wear one at a time.

    • do a Schwarzkopf

      wear 1 on each hand

    • +2

      I love you scotty.

    • +2

Not one Citizen Eco-Drive after all the posts scotty?

      • +1

It tells me time & solar powered so I don't need to worry about battery or charging — just like my Casio W-S200H-1A :) I also play sports with my watch on so I am not sure whether those relatively heavy Eco-Drive is suitable.

        • Oh yeah the Casio W-S200H-1A is pretty cool for under $50.00, they've even got a 3 level charge indicator in the top left so you know if the battery is getting low, plus world time. How does the resin lens hold up?

I found a similar model on Amazon for a good price which will ship to Aus -
          Casio WS200H-1BVCF US$32.99 + $5.74 shipping = $38.73 (~AU$48.60)
Don't forget you can use a parcel pick up point and save US$1.00.

        • It tells me time & solar powered

Does it have a Beam Me Up button?

  • +1

I have two Citizen Eco Drive watches. I can't remember the prices. Bought one at Glen Waverley a quite few years back and bought the other at an online place in the USA. I probably got onto that place through Ozbargain.

I always wear my watches with the face on the inside of my arm. I got into this habit when working. I used to have to attend a lot of meetings which used to bore the crap out of me. This way I could check the time without moving my arm and not obviously looking at the time. I'm too old to work now but I still wear my watch like that.

Because they are eco drives and need light to charge the batteries, they sit on my desk and that keeps them going. No boxes. The missus has one of these also but she put it in a drawer and it don't work now.

  • +2

    None

  • 1, that my mother gave me, but I only wear it when going out (as decoration, like a bracelet). Wearing a watch every day would get supremely annoying. Why does anyone need a watch anymore (except as decoration) when we all carry mobile phones everywhere?

    • +1

I've never dropped a watch pulling it out of my pocket to look at the time. My phone, however….

      • True! But hardly an argument to wear a watch (unless you wouldn't otherwise carry around a phone)

  • +1

So if I tell you I own xxx watches and the most valuable is a $10.000 Rolex, what comes next - will you want to know my address and in which room I keep my stash? (lol)

    • Haha

  • +1

None because they feel like shackles on my tiny wrists :(

  • Here's a boring story about wearing a watch…

I used to have a watch on my wrist 24/7 except for sleeping and showering from the time I was a child. Then one day in my early twenties, the band on the watch I had at the time broke. So I decided I'd just take the rest of the band off and use it as a pocket watch, with the idea I'd get a new band at some point. Although I never did and a year or two later it finally slipped out of my pocket one day and disappeared.

Many years later, long after I'd given up on ever finding it again, it turned up down the back of an old couch, along with maybe $10 in coins. As you'd expect it was in reasonable condition, aside from the fact the battery had gone flat.

When I found it my first thought was to finally go and get the new band, along with a new battery, and start wearing it again. But in that moment I realised, I don't really need a watch. I'd been doing just fine without one for years, nor did I want to go back to wearing something on my wrist again. So I ended up just throwing it in a box full of old stuff and it's been there ever since.

And that's the story of how I went from wearing a watch religiously, to not wearing one at all. If you're wearing one right now, I hope this has inspired you to take it off, throw it at a passerby, and scream - I refuse to be a prisoner to the shackles of time! - ideally while naked.

    • +1

You were right, that was boring.

      • +1

        How dare you…

  • I Must have 10 or more - variety in gold, silver, gold & silver, Guess, DKNY white, Fossil black ceramic, white and gold, white and rose gold, red, bracelet style, fancy black blingy - maybe I do have more than 10. I bought a cheap box but it only contains five.

  • +2
    • I've got 5 watches. 4 are Citizen Eco-Drives, all purchased from the amazing StarBuy. Honestly can't sing their praises enough. The 5th is a Stürhling that I got as a present from a student, it's an automatic so has the rotating wheel in the back and it's open heart too, so you can see the mechanisms inside.

    • "Enough is enough" will happen after the 6th (my watch display/storage case has space only for 6).

    • The most expensive watch I bought was the Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Air Satellite Wave Watch Titanium CC9025-51E. Retails for a mind whopping $3,300 but got it for just over a grand after factoring in eBay discount and Cashrewards. Will head overseas to get TRS back on it too. I love the watch and wear it as much as possible. The tech inside it is amazing.

Overall, I absolutely love the Eco-Drive technology from Citizen, I hate battery changes so this is a great solution to that problem.

  • i have more than one box and i'm scared of ever gotten broken into as they would take my boxes or lootcrates if you will…

    • +1

Where do you live? I will come around one night & make sure everything is secure.

  • I tend to buy watches that have a unique feature or maybe even a styling feature that I quite like.

I'm ok with a watch that I can wear once a month or what have you.

I have a mental list of watches that I want to buy short term and really, the total bill for these watches is under $1k which I dont feel is a lot of money to spend over the next 3yrs for example.

    • Ok you got me, what do you want to buy?

      • +1

        i actually have these bookmarked…

        https://www.certina.com/watch/ds-action-diver-automatic/C032…

        https://www.amazon.com/ORIENT-Polaris-Reserve-Sapphire-DJ050…

        I just bought this one:

        https://www.jomashop.com/mondaine-watch-a690-30304-11sbb.html?utm_source=googleproduct&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=googleproductsearch_au&pt_source=googleads&pt_medium=cpc&pt_campaign=(ROI)+Shopping+(AUS)+-+Sale+Watches+$100+-+500&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIi_yn-8rh2AIVBL69Ch3TbwAjEAYYASABEgIKBfD_BwE

I think theres something terribly wrong if they're firesaling.

Theres probably a few like sub $100 things I dont mind. Like I buy a Swatch every so often, probably have half a dozen of them now, theyre so cheap it doesnt matter.

  • +1

Oh one other thing. I own three Casios… and they are like $15 delivered or something. These are disposable really and its like me skipping lunch and eating at home. I dont really count those? My wife grabs one and uses it for the day and then uses something else.

Also I give away watches I dont use any more.

I given away some Seiko 5s to family. I gave away some of my Naviforces too. No biggie.

    I have a Casio HDA600, an MW600 and a MRW200.

Google it. They are almost watchuseek legends and I think the whole lot was like $60? 10 yr batteries so almost no maintenance.

  • Two- a victorinox chrono and a Tissot Le locle, the latter being a recent purchase. Unfortunately I didn’t do enough research and the Tissot has an unregulatable powermatic 80 movement, so it runs about 6 seconds slow a day so I have to fix the time every Monday (would much rather watch run faster than slower)

    • i have an omega and rolex and they are both COSC (ie. +/- 5 secs) but that was when it was new

they all need some regulation on machines to get them spot on

HOWEVER… I dont wear any watch long enough that accuracy truely matters

i might wear my omega for a coupla days and then change watches then the omega dies until i run them again

sure inaccuracy is an issue if you wear one watch constantly

Automatics generally run slow, i've heard of some going as far as 30 seconds plus a day and in that case the only thing you can do if you dont regulate, is to set them fast so they slow down until the time is right (or acceptable) and then adjust them say once a fortnight

      Thats the automatic life.

  • Two, a sparkly glitter one and an adult one with diamonds.

But ask me how many necklaces I have, and how many I actually wear :P

  • -1

Zero, because I decide what time it is!

  • Citizen Eco-Drive
    Victorinox
A sparkly one for special occasions

3 x el-cheapos that probably no longer works

This is not very ozbargainy but Audemars Piguet is on my list to buy at some stage

Funny enough I no longer wear my watches

  • How many watches do you own? And when is it “enough is enough”? What’s the most expensive watch you bought too? What’s a good box to keep them all in?

About a dozen or so. About a dozen. I had a vintage datejust at one point, but soon got bored of it.

Nowadays I prefer mid-high end Chinese and G-Shocks instead of Swiss. Speaking of which, I just bought another king G-Shock. I like smaller dress watches, but casual big ones fit my 8.5" wrist better.

The next big purchase will be the new Solar GPS Rangeman! https://www.g-central.com/g-shock-rangeman-gpr-b1000-solar-g…

  • 1 defakto, 1 stowa, 1 garmin

  • 5

1 x Baume & Mercier Capeland - gets the lions share of usage.
1 x March LA.B AM3 Coupe (custom bezel) - corporate gift from a watch loving/motorsport enthusiast CEO - battery is flat at present but wear this about once a week.
1 x Casio G-Shock of some description (the working in the yard watch)
    1 x fake Panerai - don't wear anymore
1 x Lorus of some kind. Gift from a good mate on his wedding day. Gets the odd wear if only because he gave it to me and reminds me of his wedding.

I want 1 more. I plan on handing my B&M down to my first born and want one to give to my second born too. At this point its probably going to be an Omega Speedmaster.

  • I have 11, but they are all in $50 - $150 price range!
    I am currently MVMT crazy.
