This was on back in December and I forgot to post it, but it ends on the 31st of January so there is still time. In case any one is interested, Philips is offering Westfield XS EFTPOS gift cards on some of their monitors via redemption. I purchased the 40in 4K curved one via Scorptec and am very happy with it. At $899 you can't go wrong :)

Tip: Full product name in title followed by price and then store name

  • $899 is a lot to pay for terrible ghosting on the 40"

if you really want the suffering, is $813.40 from JW on eBay with PCTECH code

EDIT: the other models are cheaper on JW as well

    • thanks for that link. I only posted the scorptec one because that's where I bought mine from

and you are right, ghosting is horrendous, but I use it more for photo editing, and static drawings so it isn't a problem for what I use it for. I would not recommend it for gaming either.

      • what is ghosting and why is it bad with this tv?

        • +1

when you get image retention/blurring due to fast movement - can be annoying in some types of games

          1. While it's the size of a tv it's not, it's a monitor.

          2. Ghosting is when you get a ghost effect on whatever is displayed on the screen due to slow response times. VA panels are known for ghosting so it shouldn't come as a surprise as this monitor uses one.

      • cool - for big curved 4K screens, there is bugger all choice anyways - can't have everything perfect

the cashback makes it a better choice than the normally cheaper AOC C4008VU8 version (mediaform pulled it from their ebay site yesterday - was slightly cheaper at $699)

    • I use this monitor at work for CAD, but even then the smearing is super irritating. Any dark areas just ghost for almost a full second after motion. Horrible for gaming/movies etc but perfectly fine for photo editing and work docs/spreadsheets etc

  • Why is the 40" cheaper than the 34"?

    • the 34" has freesync

      • +1

Freesync is royalty free hence the name.

It's Probably due to it having a 21:9 aspect ratio which is kinda niche compared to 16:9 that's in most things.

  • curved is still a thing?

    • Curved is nice provide you can sit in the sweetspot for viewing.

      • +1

Curved makes literally zero sense. None.

        • +1

          Incorrect.

  • Ordered this AOC 40" VA yesterday for $699 using PCTech.

Supposedly has minimal ghosting, pretty nice non-gaming monitor.

Since then I noticed the listing doesn't show up in the search link for PCTech though so not sure what's going on there.

    • They're using the same screen as the Philips monitor. Just rebranding it as AOC.

  • Buy 40inch monitor ? or buy 55inch 4k TV and use it as a monitor ?
