    • Seriously? The Nokia has literally twice as many pixels in each direction, and is cheaper to boot. For some stupid reason, Sony still puts a 720 x 1280 screen in their compact phones.

I have owned a Sony Z1, and will not be going back in a hurry. The Z1-Z3 had serious overheating problems causing constant crashes, especially when using the camera. Just as you were about to take a perfect shot, the stupid thing would crash. Heaps of people reporting it and Sony did nothing. Their support is horrible.

For some stupid reason, Sony still puts a 720 x 1280 screen in their compact phones.

I bet someone who doesn't follow specs wouldn't even notice that it was a lower-res screen.
They would notice the longer battery life though. :)

I bought one to replace a Z1 compact (bought on an OZB deal many years ago)

Have never ever experienced any of the issues you describe with the Z1C and it has been dropped many times.

        • The Z1's through to Z3's were affected, including the compacts

I had two brand new Z1's, which both did this straight out of the box.

        • +1

Yeah I had no issues with mine either.

I still use a phone with 720x1280 res - get used to it pretty quickly.

My mother has been rocking a Z3 compact since release - it's been rock solid for over 3 years. The battery is only just starting to get a bit tired.

Nokia seem to be quite prompt with their Android updates, if that's something that matters to you.

Had a Z5 Compact, loved it despite the occasional overheating and slow SD card read speed (when you have 10,000+ images on your card, and you open the album…. prepare to wait).

But still love the size, and the power button/fingerprint reader placement is industry leading (for me), natural to use and can still be reached when the phone is flat on a table! .. here's looking at you all other Android flagships!

720p screen is perfectly adequate for this size screen and reduces battery consumption. Having said that, the camera software is still rubbish, so that Nokia above may still take the cake.

      • SD Card Read-ahead tweak is a thing! It enhances the cache and you get faster thumbnail previews :P

So much bezel and wasted space. You could get pretty much any 5inch phone and it'd still be the same size.

    • +4

There aren't any 5 inch phones that are the same size, as much as I'd like for there to be one - waiting to upgrade from a Z3 compact.

      • Slightly bigger - but I upgraded my Z5C to the Xiaomi Mi6

on paper, it's about a cm longer and wider, but its also much thinner, arguably better camera(s), more RAM and better screen. Only downside is lack of SD Card but 64GB is not bad if you don't need to stick too much on it.

  • $503.20 for the blue, which unfortunately looks pretty ugly.

    • Speak for yourself. I quite like the blue colour.

  • How are Vaya with delivery?

    • Superfast. I ordered one during the last sale on 26th Dec, left HK 28th Dec, arrived 3rd Jan. I would have gotten it even sooner if I knew it was coming via Toll Priority and put my home address instead of a Parcel Locker.

      • Have you had any dealing with them post sales?

        • Not yet. I don't imagine it would be any better than any of the other grey import sellers around though. The phone didn't come with a tax invoice, so I'm guessing this is handled by a different part of Vaya than the regular telecom/phone plans side.

  • For $599 you can get the Sony XZ Premium from the same seller.

Owned plenty of phones over the years, sticking with the Japs from now on. Sony ftw

      • Username checks out lol.

        • +1

Hey! I did say I'd had plenty of other phones too ya know

        • @ninjataki:

Sure, saw an opportunity for a light-hearted joke, nothing serious meant.

        • @ozhunter68: me too, text can never convey intonation and that's what really lets us down.

  • Great deal, $24 cheaper than when I ordered it three weeks ago during the last eBay tech sale. Shipping is super quick, comes via Toll Priority so make sure you use a physical address and not a PO Box/Parcel Locker.
