Personally I recommend not going to one of these alteration places as they are over priced.
Mrs altomic took a dress to the chermside store be re-hemmed (I.e. just restitched along the hem- not rocket sewing) and it was $25.
The lady up the road working from home did it for $5. It was a 30 second job with a sewing machine.
