  • Not as nice as wireless1 $145 for USG last deal, but tempting. $188.64 normal price looks like they jacked price beforehand

    • I was going wireless 1 would be participating in the prawns coupon but after seeing they weren't I want going to miss out over a couple dollars!

        What?

I shouldnt ban myself from replying on mobile, was meant to say "I was hoping Wireless1 would be part of the 20% in the PRAWNS coupon offer as their prices dont appear to be jacked like sydneytec but in the end the difference wasn't too much that I was willing to wait and see if/when that will happen.

  • The UAP-AC-PRO has been lower - down $15X recently.
Waiting for their prices to drop since there is now an AC HD

I'm in process of requesting an replacement for Archer D7 (under warranty) which is having intermittent dropouts on 5ghz and no response on 2.4ghz issue (very common problem for most users).

I was thinking to get Archer D9 but do you guys recommend any other modem router in same price range?

    • I would try and see if you can find one of these for a similar price and flash it depending on how confident you are:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/353403

    • I have a billion 8800 and the 2.4G was always playing up Now i have an AC PRO no issues anymore, no more dual SSIDs, and no more night reboots etc. The billion is a great ADSL router especially for TPG becuase of the chipset

    • My D7 now operates in modem/router mode only with a coupleof Unifi lites taking over WAP duty and its a huge improvement.
Had a desktop PC with wifi that was so bad at disconnections I went to EOP. With Unifi back to wifi and its been seemless.

      • Get a USG and put the D7 in bridge mode. Throw in a switch or two and you should be good for a long time.

    • I am in the same boat as you. But speaking to the TP Link support they said they are going to be providing us with replacement not a refund.
My mate suggested me to get Edge Router and Accesspoint for a better reliable network at home

Currently, using TG797v3. I'd rather have no internet than using this router.

    I got ASUS 88u and Unifi UAP-AC-HD.
I have to say, the signal of ASUS 88u is much better than unifi. And ASUS firmware is supporting mesh wifi now, so I have to say, for home user, the best choice is still ASUS.

But on another side, the Unifi software is pretty good.!

    • Geez how bigs your house to have both . Have the 88U personally. Very nice router/modem.

      • land size is 760m2, and ASUS 88u can cover everywhere.

        • Dang, mines 688 and I can walk few houses away and still get signal on my 88U. Was just wondering why you would get the 88U + UAP pro.

  • Just curious, do Ubiquiti make any VDSL compatible modem?

    • Not that I've seen.

    • I use my RSP provider's VDSL modem in bridge mode to a USG (Unifi Security Gateway).

      • This is what I am going to do also, NBN FTTP but have the Telstra Frontier gateway with 4G fallback, so will bridge that into the USG, to the 8 port switch, then to the 2x AC-LITE. Almost went with the AC pro's but couldnt justify the price difference for 3x3 which I will see minimal benefit from. So 2xAC-LITE won over 1xAC-PRO

  • I've done some looking and I can't get a clear answer for myself.

FOR A HOME USE CASE (4 people), why would I get a USG when I can save $70 and get an EdgeRouter X to do the exact same job? The only things I cab find is that the USG supports offloading (which won't be needed), and that the USG is harder to configure (lacking a GUI for a lot of things).

The EdgeRouter looks more appealing when I then look at the SFP with 5 ports (still for less than the USG) and saves me having to buy a switch too. If I decide I need a switch later, then there's no harm, but at least I don't require it like I would with the fewer ports on the USG.

Maybe it's the wrong place to ask this and I should ask an actual Ubiquiti forum.

    • The EdgeRouter is probably better value for money, however the reason I went for the USG is that it supports DSI and also the fact the it integrates into the Unifi Controller where the EdgeRouter does not. I have no use for SFP i have nowhere that requires >100m ethernet run.

I work in telecommunications and so am comfortable configuring via CLI, and will be setting up a docker to host the Unifi controller so I saved ~$120 on a cloud key by using my trusty N40L Microserver. I currently have a Cisco 24 port switch, the Frontier Gateway and a R7000 and wanted the conveniece of everything being in the one place.
