"With the best range and best prices"…..whilst the range may be good the prices certainly aren't the best.

As an example Ted's has the Canon IXUS 210IS for $399. MSY is selling it for $315 and before any one asks it is Canon Australia sourced stock with full local manufacturer warranty. There are retailers selling it cheaper than MSY, one as low as $299 but I am quoting MSY as they are a known Canon Australia reseller.

Just about every camera I searched on staticice for came up significantly cheaper than Ted's.

I guess now we wait for the likes of Ted's to blame all those people personally importing them from OS and avoiding GST. A bit hard to swallow when there are so many bricks and mortars stores in Australia out doing them on price.

I won't NEG this as the deal is about free shipping but a savvy shopper can do much much better.

    EDITED for spelling mistakes.

  • I think free shipping adds should be banned from ozbargain. Except under very extreme circumstances free shipping wont make advertisers prices bargain, they just use ozbargain as an advertising medium.

Ted's prices are so high free shipping won't make them any better than competitors' prices.

  • No need for Ted's to blame any one! Everyone can shop where they want to. If price is the only thing that is important, thats ok, try using the "price match" tool http://www.teds.com.au/price-enquiry/w1/i5062430/ we will try and give you the best deal we can and still include all the std Ted's service Guarantees and Club Ted Membership that you can't get any where else.

    • The price matching tool is pretty well hidden

  • We use it more for the higher priced DSLR's, its front and center for these…:) http://www.teds.com.au/canon-eos-550d/canon-eos-550d-body-on…

    • Can you please outline your price match policy? From what I can tell , it seems that at the moment you send off the details and a decision is made on a case by case basis.

As an example would Ted's price match the the IXUS 210IS which MSY are selling for $315 and Ted's is listing for $399?

  • $315 is below where our customer service team are permitted to go to. On this item we would reply back with our best offer, in this case - $331. I also note that MSY are currently out of stock, we have 116 on hand and ready to go :) Hope this helps

    • You will need to do better than that. The camera is in stock at MSY's North Melbourne branch if you change the default MSY store to North Melbourne on their web site :)

      From the Clayton MSY portal….

      • Name: Canon IXUS 210IS Digital Camera

If price is the only thing that is important, thats ok,

If people want service at any price, they'll go to a real local shop, won't they?
People who mail-order usually want it cheap. You are double the price of Amazon on my camera. That's a problem.

    • You've hit the nail on the head 100%. Retailers in this country just don't get it.

  • not all retailers are to blame!
some retailers have a higher margin due to higher costs, and while you can get the camera cheaper at msy they certainly won't give you the same level of service as teds, not everyone is an expert at choosing or using a camera, and this applies to all consumer goods in general, seems to work so far otherwise we would all be shopping only online or at giant supermarkets like costco!

we would all be shopping only online or at giant supermarkets like costco!

I suspect most of us on this particular website…. are doing just that :)

    • I took a camera back to Ted's, that was under extended warranty and the camera had stopped working.

To their credit, they gave me a newer model camera, which I've been very happy with :)

However, as el guapo pointed out $315 for a Canon IXUS 20IS at MSY vs $399 at Ted's (before the cost of an extended warranty) … and I'd definitely be giving MSY a check.

On the other hand, a price match of $331 from Ted's (before extended warranty) definitely gets my attention (given the good service I got last time; someone at the store rushed through my camera replacement when they heard I was going away for the weekend with friends :) )
