  Looking for a cheap but good laptop for my partner for her starting her business. What would you guys recommend? She's currently using a Dell that is at least 6 years old so in dire need of an upgrade but unsure what's really good.

  It won't be used for gaming, potentially used for software like R (statistics) and Office.

  Would the $500 one here be recommended or should we go dearer?

    This day and age you really want a laptop with SSD hard drive, it makes processing data much faster than the standard hard drive and the laptop lighter.

    How much storage is on her current laptop and also preference on screen size?

    There's some refurbished laptops going cheap part of deal which look aesthetically pleasing ;)
