We bought one 6-8 months ago and I was skeptical that they can make a really good coffee. Without even trying it makes better coffee than Macca's, the drive through coffee shop down the road, and as good as (or sometimes better) than most cafes in my suburb. This is using crappy Lavazza beans as well. I'm looking forward to using some decent beans.

It might seem strange to coffee lovers that my standards are Macca's and a drive through coffee shop, but these are the types of places we hit up along with cafes every day when on the road and in a rush. After we worked out we were spending $3000 a year on take away coffees its a no-brainer to buy a couple of KeepCups and one of these machines for $550, then pocket the savings to put towards a week long break in SE-Asia. Works for us.

so basically what your saying, is that this machine comes with a free trip to SE-Asia!? :o

    • +1

Yup, tall cappuccino (we used to get 1 each) were like $5.50 from Maccas we bought the model up from this one and boy o boy we've saved so much money. We buy our beans from manna beans you might have seen some deals from them on here well anyway we buy a 500g bag of beans which makes around 45-50 coffees and it costs only 30ish bucks… you can do the math haha massive savings awesome coffee and all from home!

      • how about cleaning, is it a pain in the butt to clean?

        • no pains in bottom when cleaning.

all you need is like caffeto cleaner, wack it in the coffee machine, hit the clean. Few mins later its done.

Empty the dip tray every now and then.

Do a descale every 6-12 months or something. Not that hard, bit time intensive tho

        • Just have to change filter every 3 months. It'll say clean me after a while but that's fairly optional

        • Cleaning is easy not much too it haha make sure you wipe the steam wand after each use.

      • Get into coffee roasting and a kg of roasted beans will only cost you $15.

    • We did the same too. Using aldi medium roast for optimum taste/price ratio.

Works out using a double basket shot to be around under 30cents a cup.

  • nice deal!, paid approx $600 on boxing day from JB after asking what the lowest price they could do was. Once you get the grind sorted with the beans you're using & the grind amount, it makes an awesome crema

  • Now showing out of stock

  • Great value machine, have had one for the past 6 months and use it every day. Love it!
    Manna beans are great.
Stay away from IKEA beans. I had to throw them out. They were so dry (probably old) and just constantly under-extracted.

  • Really good machine but the steam wand takes a while. For the extremely fussy sort its probably worth getting the dual boiler and separate grinder.

    • Hi can I ask you to please elaborate? Do you mean takes a while once you begin frothing the milk or takes a while to heat up initially before you begin frothing your milk?

      • +1

To froth, the milk the steam wand takes some time to get steam out of it. Plus obviously compared to a commercial unit it seems to take lots longer to froth milk. I am not sure if the dual boiler unit would be any faster.

        • thanks good to know, we’ve got a DeLonghi at home which is a rocket, and my old man has a sunbeam which takes aaaages to froth. Only issue with the DeLonghi is the pressure or system isn’t a rocket on the coffee side of things so feel we could be getting better crema and extraction results. That combined with steam wand seems to have developed a slight drop were considering an upgrade to something like this 👍🏻

        • @original15 the coffee that comes out of this unit is amazing though. So I am willing to live with the fact it takes a bit longer to froth the milk.

        • @Kaboda:
          Thanks for the tip
Can you still make decent quality milk? I used to be a barista and obviously know at home machines are never going to give a commercial unit a run for their money, but our rocket delonghi makes GREAT milk (can still do all the free pour latte art you can do with a commercial machine)..the slow sunbeam makes terrible milk, there’s just not enough pressure to get it going :(

        • @original15: I personally make better coffee with this unit than out commercial unit at work. I am no master barista though but I think the slowly forthing time makes things more forgiveable. So yes if you have the patience definitely no issues making great milk :)

      • this is not a dual boiler, so heating and cooling of the boiler takes additional time and cant do both (heat/pour and froth) alas. Its its only downfall is the time needed to shift from doing one thing to the other. Or waiting for the cooler to cool enough for another cuppa, after frothing with steam.

Its not long, say a minuite…

  • Is this worth it of I only drink ONE coffee a day?

    • +1

yes, but this does the same thing at half the price www.ozbargain.com.au/node/344472 & its up against awesome pod coffee machines.

      • Well the link is out of stock thanks any way.

EDIT: The DeLonghi Dedica Barista better than Brevile?

I was thinking maybe buying DeLonghi Dedica Barista $279 from Harvey Norman and Brevile Smart Grinder Pro $159 which on special atm from Bing Lee.

        Which is better machine?

        • the Brev is slow single boiler, so warm up and cool down between steaming milk and doing a pour blows for more than one or two cups…

Look for a dualboiler… or a nice pod machine

  • I bought SunBeam EM6910 and a Smart grinder pro. Would this Breville BES870 be much better? Should I upgrade? Thanks!

  • +1

I just called Bing Lee and asked if the stock status on the listing can be updated (as it is available at many Bing Lee stores) but the rep said that Bing Lee head office have decided to remove that product from the promotion. :(

    • Sounds like $479.20 would be below cost price
I tried to get my local good guys to do it for $520 but they couldn't

      • Yeah :(

My local good guys said $585 is the best they can do, but they can't do the in-store credit because the purchase must be online to be eligible for the offer.

They can't change the online price ($699) and there is no guarantee their head office will accept the 30 Day Guarantee Claim to get $120% of the difference back against Bing Lee as Bing Lee aren't offering an in-store credit as part of their deal.
