Cashback from Cashrewards not tracked, where to from here?

A few weeks ago, encouraged by an increase in cash back from Cashrewards.com.au on Wotif for hotel bookings (to 7.2%) I went ahead and booked some Singapore accommodation. The accomodation was slightly cheaper on another site but with the extra cash back due, Wotif worked out cheaper. After a week, my cash back hadn't tracked so I put in a request to have it looked at, supplying my invoice etc. Cash rewards clearly showed my click had tracked 20 minutes before my transaction went through. I've just been advised that Wotif can't attribute it to cash rewards and so I won't be getting my $128 cash back. Before I made the transaction, I checked with the cash rewards notifier in my browser that it was active on that website, which it was. I had no ad blockers, no other websites open, didn't use any coupons etc etc that they attribute to possible causes for it not tracking. Understandably I'm pretty annoyed, it's blatant false advertising and not as if I can even ask for a refund on my purchase as it's no refunds allowed.. I'm a long term user of cash rewards and have never had any cash back not track before, typically the biggest ever payout I'm due and I don't get it. Is there any appeal I can go to from here? Through cash back or Wotif?

I've just been advised that Wotif can't attribute it to cash rewards

Did you click on any ads while searching? Looked at travel blogs with affiliate urls? Clicked on a deal through OzBargain while signed out? Tried double dipping with another cashback provider?

Basically the commission from Wotif went to another party instead of Cashrewards. Those things I listed above are the usual culprits. For example, OzBargain serve out affiliate URLs to guests which could lead to a sale going to OzBargain instead of Cashrewards.

  • BYOJet also didn't track for me, when I spent about $1600 (although with a measly 0.75 cashback I didn't really bother chasing it).

With these sites, you'll want to make sure you click on the most direct links possible and not accidentally click through any other 3rd party affiliate sites (aka Price comparison site). They sometimes inject themselves into the search results (usually in the form of ads) even on other competing sites.

Adblock may also modify HTTP request header and strip out / block cookies which are neccessary for tracking to work. Closing a window that you originally logged into Cashrewards with also ends the session.

  • Nope, none of those things. And the cash rewards notifier in the browser said cashback was active as well, so proves that doesn't work.

  • Purley23, May I suggest posting a review on Product Review as a Cashrewards Official monitors the site and responds to reviews that have been posted?

I had a claim that was pending for over a year on PricePal and it was only when I posted a detailed review that someone on the PricePal team got in touch with me and paid me the cashback, as a gesture of goodwill, even though the merchant had not approved it yet. She even upgraded my membership from Gold to Diamond.

    • They respond fairly quick on their Facebook page as well. Use FB Messenger to contact.

I'm a long term user of cash rewards and have never had any cash back not track before

So its not a ongoing thing.

Cash rewards clearly showed my click had tracked 20 minutes before my transaction went through

Well theres your issue. In that 20 mins of your randomly clicking around looking at other deals, you must have clicked on something that overwrote the cashrewards tracking. Its the last one to track 'wins'.

typically the biggest ever payout I'm due and I don't get it

If you didn't get paid, cashrewards didn't get paid either

Is there any appeal I can go to from here?

haha oh please stop, my sides hurt.

    • there was no clicking around in that 20 minutes, it was a case of double checking dates on printed flight itineraries, finding credit cards, entering all the info needed, dealing with children etc.

Just to give an update, the Cashrewards representative went out of their way to investigate the issue for me and have now resolved the problem in my favour. Happy days. Great customer service.

They did the same for me

  • Merged from Cashrewards no longer tracking my purchases

    Hi guys,

Lately I have noticed cashrewards has stopped tracking my eBay purchases, ASOS, and other stores, pretty much anything over $30-40. First two times I noticed it was when I was ordering some car parts, so for my other purchases I made sure I am doing everything right(not forgetting to click through them, no adblock). It has been more than 10 days since my last 3 purchases and they haven't been tracked, their value in total ~$1500. I have contacted CR and I am not getting any response, so I wanted to know if any of you are having the same issues with your orders not getting tracked?

    • +2

My purchase from Samsung wasn't tracked but after contacting them they gladly fixed it

    • Edit : Being looked into :)

    • Did you recently install any addons? Not sure if it affects it, but anything that stops tracking like Adblock, Disquis, Ghostery, noscript

      • No, I have made sure no such software is enabled. I even tried ordering from my mobile phone, order not tracked. Sometimes it shows I've had an active session and sometimes it doesn't. Not sure if CR are taking the full amount of the share, or it is retailers who no longer wish to collaborate with CR.

Hi Winston100s. Please turn on your messaging and PM me your CR email address. As for the second part of your statement, nothing is further from the truth. Not sure how many times I need to say the same thing across forums - we want your sale to track. If it doesn't, neither of us get paid and we won't be in business long. Please let me try to help sort your issue out.

    • My Mavic Air on eBay wasn't tracked, so I raised a complaint. They came back saying I used an eBay discount voucher so wasn't eligible for the CR. I'd gotten it in the past, but not this time which sux, it would've been around $12.

Hi Iozza6. This is correct, and unfortunately eBay has the final say, not Cashrewards (or any other rewards site for that matter). Sometimes they slip through the cracks and eBay approves, other times they don't. Like you, I wish there was consistency at their end. This is what we have on site for eBay…

Payment using any type of voucher or eBay credit may result in your purchase being ineligible to earn rewards.

I've had CR not track for me a couple of times too, but support has sorted it out pronto. It's typically something I've done on my end. Obviously I am extremely careful when making purchases through CR, even to the point where I have a separate Chrome Canary installation that has all cookies enabled, no adblock, no other extensions apart from the Cashrewards extension. TA is also always here for support, and you can count on him to look into things thoroughly.

    • I have had the same issue especially in the last 3 weeks. It tracks, but on and off. I have raised 3 different incidents today for them to track it!

in my case, they were from Groupon, banggood and aliexpress.

I still have 4 more to raise, 3 with hotels.com and one with agoda and its been more than 2 weeks.

  • Merged from Cashrewards/Wotif Refusing to Acknowledge Transaction

I know many people on here take advantage of using cashrewards - as do I.

Back in Nov 2017 I booked accomodation through Wotif (via the cashrewards site) and took advantage of their 10% cashback offer..

Accomodation was booked for Jan 2018, and the transaction soon appeared in the list of my rewards pending payment til 75 days after booking…fair enough.

Anyway, that 75 days past last week and I still noticed the transaction as pending so I sent an enquiry through to cashrewards.

I just received the following reply:

    Hi xxxx,

Thanks for being so patient while we investigated your Wotif transaction.

We were super happy to have the opportunity to try and rectify your rewards, however we did not have success on this occasion. The store has notified us that your purchase with Wotif has not been attributed to Cashrewards and therefore we will not be paid for this sale.

What a load of bollocks! Firstly, how did the transaction end up as pending if it wasn't tracked?

Anyone else had any similar experiences??

    • +1

Yes, I recently had a transaction declined with exactly the same response (different company). I am an occasional user of cashrewards, but am meticulous about following the rules regarding no ad-blockers etc. My transaction wasn't tracked and I followed the claim process after 7 days. A bit puzzled as they do have a cashback guarantee on their website. Was going to question it but for $15 decided against it. Perhaps message TA with the details, I know he has helped others with similar issues super quickly.

      • Thanks for the response… sorry who/what is TA?

I ensured that I was very diligent when I made the transaction as I didn't want to miss out on my claim.

They never seem to have any tracking issues with paying back claims worth a few cents do they? lol

TA is a representative for CashRewards and is one of the most highly regarded members of OzBargain. If you start a conversation with him I am sure he can help you with your query. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/27551/

Hi shockme79. I'm a rep for Cashrewards. I've already PM'd you. Please allow me the time to investigate and I'll get answers for you. Thank you.

          • @tightarse: Thank you!!

          • +3

@tightarse: @shockme79: Not a problem. Just to clear a couple of things up however, you asked above why the transaction was pending if it was untracked. Adding an untracked claim to a member's account as pending is standard practice. We need to do this as it then allows the merchants to investigate the claim and come back to us with either approved or declined.

Your transaction was untracked and you submitted an untracked claim on Dec 1 which we then added to your account as pending while we submitted a transaction query with Wotif on your behalf. They have since marked the sale as attributed to another channel and declined the transaction.

Having said that, I will write to Wotif and let you know my findings. Should have an answer by tomorrow. They will be able to tell me exactly who the last click was with. Your sale could be attributed to OzBargain, Google, comparison sites, travel sites etc. Also, another reason for an untracked sale is if you used a coupon not advertised on Cashrewards. Please remember, last click is key. Will keep you posted.

@tightarse: Thank you for following up, I did ensure that I was diligent with this one as it was during the Black Friday sales and wotif was offering 10% cashback.. From memory, I accessed wotif via the cashrewards site to ensure that it was tracked.

Thanks again TA, I look forward to your feedback.

            Cheers

@tightarse: @shockme79: Hi again shockme79, and thanks for your patience.

From the outset, I'd like to say how much it pains me when Cashrewards is blamed for issues that lie elsewhere or are totally out of our control. My team takes this gig seriously and works extremely hard to keep members happy. I see this first hand - others unfortunately don't. Rant over :)

Back to your untracked sale. Wotif replied to my email overnight. They confirmed you used an email coupon (clearly shown on your invoice) that was never advertised on Cashrewards, and as such would negate any cashback claim and is the reason your sale didn't track to Cashrewards.

Having said that, here's the response from Wotif…

We're really disappointed to hear about how this experience played out for the customer. First up, we should and will look at how we can make restrictions around coupon usage and cashback clearer with Cashrewards. It also sounds like Wotif's messaging around transaction reviews could be improved to have highlighted this earlier - we'll review that.

As a gesture of goodwill and in the hopes that the customer will keep both Wotif and Cashrewards in mind for future bookings, we’d like to approve their transaction. Please share our thanks with the customer for raising this. While it hasn’t been a smooth experience, we will use this information to avoid instances like this in the future.

Please check your Cashrewards account and you'll see your rewards are approved and available for immediate withdrawal. I trust this helps instil confidence in our systems and practices, and hopefully goes a way to educating others on ways to use our service successfully and with confidence. Always remember I'm here to help.

Thank you, and have a great day. TA.

            Hi TA,
Sorry to bother you. I'm wondering would you mind to have a look my case too?
I have the exactly same issue with shockme79. I made a few transactions with wotif through CR when they increased the 10% cash back, it was back in Sept 17 and I checked in Nov 17. I first contacted CR in March, they said some store will take longer to review depending on the company so I patiently wait for another 2 months. I sent them another email to chase the claim, and request a follow with wotif. Came back to me with the same email as shockme79, that I didn't make the purchase through CR. However, I made a few transactions at the same time but this particular one which has more rewards got rejected.

          • @tightarse: @emamsm: Hey champ. Please turn on your private messaging and shoot me more details along with your CR email address. I will look into this tomorrow for you if that's ok. Have a lovely evening :)

hey TA, thanks for your time. Sorry i just created this account for this particular reason, I can't use the private msg due to my account is less than one day old. I will inbox you tmr for more details. Same to you. cheers

  • A big thank you to TA who has been aboluletly helpful to solve my issue with Wotif cashback. TA response so quickly and resolved the problem efficiently. really appreciated and happy with the result.

  • @tightarse I have issues with my cash rewards referral with booking.com not being tracked - do you mind if I pm you?

    • thanks to TA for direct messaging me and looking into my case - appreciate the outcome!

  • no tracking from Wotif after 3 hours, shall I cancel the order and rebook it, as the tracking normally show up within 5 minutes

    • @TA, TA is awesome! Got a quick reply just 3 seconds after my post!
And they are working on it now! Unbelievable amazing!

update, listened to TA's advice, cancelled and booked again, got my tracking notification immediately

thank you for your help TA!!

  • My tracking from Groupon last night still is not showing.

    • Same here. No tracking for the last 2 purchases, Amaysim and Groupon.

  • I tried to use Cashrewards for the first time and it didn’t track my purchase. Seems like a great way to get my purchasing data but for no reward.

I’ve tried to submit a claim but haven’t heard anything back.

Needless to say, it’s left a bad taste in my mouth.

tightarse has reached out to help me out, so thank you very much! it looks like it's my fault as while i had disabled my browsers ad blocker, I had totally forgotten about the pi-hole we're running all our connections through.

so they've put the claim in to the shop i purchased from and from there it's really up to them.

so thanks again tightarse :) i'll make sure to use the app and use the 4G next time :)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/580653 - I made a huge post about it.

People called me a cry baby wah wah, but it's a common issue.

  • Looks like nothing in the last six months is tracking for me. I've disabled adblock and my VPN, still no dice. :(
