  • I would buy if only it had parking mode…

  • +1

    Doesn't have 60fps or 1440p. Doesn't even seem worth $91

    • +3

ohh well, brick & mortar with 2 yrs warranty

      supercaps

      gps

      wifi

live view & playback over phone

is there alternative that have all the above, yet cheaper ?

    • 4k/144hz or no deal am I right guys?

      • -1

60fps is actually a huge deal in terms of finding a frame where the license plate is clear.

My point was that if its not 60fps, it should be at least 1440p

        • +1

You also said the price isn't worth it without those features, which is highly subjective and the main reason for my sarcastic reply.

        • +3

please kindly link a decent unit with those features for $91?

        • @mcp2kpro:

          https://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_392248.html

          $94.19 AUD

Has GPS, 60fps, parking mode etc.

It regularly goes on sale for $80-90 AUD

        • @Lorindor:

I said that because if you are paying $91, you should get 60fps.

Otherwise pay $40 and get a 1080p/30fps camera.

        • @samfisher5986:

You're comparing apples to oranges, some buyers will specifically buy a unit like the Kapture because it has a space-saving design.

        • @Lorindor:

          My A119S is really small.

        • @samfisher5986:

To you, perhaps, but some may not require a screen.

And as stated by another member, this unit is local Australian stock and backed by a 2-year warranty.

        • @Lorindor:

          I guess I wasn't clear.

If you want Australian stock, spend the extra money and get 60fps on another dash cam.

Otherwise I suggest getting something overseas with 60fps.

I found it a huge difference.

        • +2

@samfisher5986: Not bad, but its discontinued. Furthermore, we're comparing Aus retails & Chinese imports. It might not mean anything but I'd happily support local business if price gap isn't huge. I prefer my tax goes to support Aus economy than China. My 2 cents.

        • @mcp2kpro:

Thats fine, but I still think 60fps or higher res is important.

        • @samfisher5986: you're right. I prefer the kapture look though, similar to the blackvue which is kinda cool :)

        • @mcp2kpro:

Nah but all that matters is that FPS mate, nothing else, just what I think is important.

        • +2

@Lorindor: I want design & specs & quality. Thats what important for me & everyone has their preferences. But that Kapture unit is a steal at $91, too bad it didn’t last long.

        • @mcp2kpro:

We all do, but it's like saying I want my take away food to be fast, cheap, and great tasting - you can't have your cake and eat it too.

  • +1

How does this compare to Ozbargain's favourite A119s?

    • A119S video quality is better but that's it. You can still see number plates with the 850's raw videos. In terms of user experience it's world's better since it has its own app. When watching recorded videos on the app, it displays a map along with it so you can track location too. Cool stuff

      • The A119S 60FPS is very attractive to me. I know it is 1080 not 1440, but that higher frame rate makes a big difference with moving targets. Check out the difference if your smart phone or camera allows different frame rates - do a pan and you will see a big difference.

Also you can get a polarising filter on the A119/S that helps get rid of reflections - is that available with this one?

    • Have both, image quality is comparable, 60fps won't help catching number plate better. Gps is a bit less responsive, start up and drive probably 30s until it pick up signal. Wi-Fi is the great plus, but app feature is limiting, some annoying options cannot be disabled by the app. The A119s almost do gps instantly unless you're under cover but gps speed displays jump up and down widely. But have to take memory card out into your house every time you want to review a clip which can be annoying too

      • Which one is which

      • 60fps sure helps me get number plates.

You have twice the amount of frames to go through to find a good frame that allows you to read it as well as the video being a lot better.

  • how do these compare to the A119 not the S?

  • Does this have a good park mode?

    • +13

no, you will have to park the car yourself

    • Video looks good, audio was horrendous not that that matters as hopefully can be turned off

  • err.. the details say "Super Capacitor: Beats the heat withstanding temperatures up to 70°C"

um.. I don't think they understand australia??

    • p.s didn't think you could get a cap rated much lower than that.. i'm not into electronics tho.. i guess it depends on the type of cap.. but i thought 105 degrees would be more suitable. maybe they mean cabin temps of 70degrees.. allowing 35 more for the device or something

edit add: ok the manual says that's the operating temp.. so i guess once you hop in the oven and open some windows the temp should drop quickly enough before you start the car. i guess.

'super' capacitor sounds like marketing garbage.. can't find schematics/pcb/teardown that shows what this cap actually is.. or is 'super capacitor' actually a thing??

      • +1

probably just garbage they throw in to make up the 5000 words essay in the manual

      • +3

a super capacitor is a a real thing. high capacity capacitors built into the circuits to replace batteries.

        • +4

It's obviously not as good as a super duper capacitor though

        • ok so it is a specific component.. still, i imagine their super capacitor is the same type of component as the a119 capacitor.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercapacitor

        • +1

Pretty sure it's the same, and I'm also pretty sure neither company's marketing team know what it actually is or does!

        • Jaycar sell them. I used to sell them. Super Caps are a real thing.

.5 Farard 3.3 volts. Massive capacity in a low current draw circuit lasts a long time.

        • +1

          @Blyyth:

my 1 farad caps for car stereo amp is huge like Voss 800ml bottle.

          doof dooff.. !!

  • +2

Price is gone back to $199.20. Do i need to use any coupons to get the discount or did i miss out???

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/vehicle-cameras/kapt…

    • it was displaying the lower price.
seems to go on sale often (recently every month or so) so you could wait or consider a119

  • +1

The deal is dust.. but a jb guy said he would do it at 132 ish inc extra care warranty. I said no but thanked him for checking and trying. He also said normally he wouldn't be able to do that.

    • Looks like JB just did a dodgy stunt to get more traffic to their website

      • +1

Hardly a dodgy stunt, was the lower price for a few hours. I purchased one, and it was ready for pick up within 15 minutes. Haven't gone and got it yet though

        • Yeah i should have CC as well, silly me… next time i decide to do something like this i will cc

        • Yes, lower the price for few hours, enough for ozbargained & bring it back up.

        • @mcp2kpro:

hmm.. either you underestimate the power of the ozbargained.. or you don't understand the term, as I know it.

if it were a stunt, to generate more traffic to their website, it probably wouldn't help them to have all that traffic coming from us skinflints at ozb, right before we disappear until the next fully vetted decent sale.

the deal only got +9 votes.
ozbargained deals should by definition reach.. 500?? (mod, pls adjust figure :) )

(btw no one could call themselves a true ozb if they now went and spent $1 more on this… search shows it's been on sale many times, wait and it'll be sub $100 again)

        • @Stitchy: who said anything about you spending $1 more?

        • @mcp2kpro:

no one, sorry i went a bit beyond my/your point.

edited post to refect this. cheers

        • @Stitchy: still, why would anyone have a special deal for just couple hours, not even a day. Just don't make any sense.

        • @mcp2kpro:

dunno.. they could have bought so many units specifically for the sale, by negotiation at a special price.. once all those units are sold out, the sale is over.

i don't know about jb/this case specifically tho.

          anecdote time:
i know when i was a teenager working for a small woolies subsidary shop, we had a special on coke.. a dude came in and bought an entire pallet of it.. not exaggerating.. a pallet of coke (yeah manager ok'd it). within an hour or two the store had none at all. that dude probably runs ozbargain now.. or is dead from diabetes.

        • @Stitchy: lol, just gonna take a wild guess, is he chinese?

  • Any idea how to turn the wifi off? Don't want my phone connecting to it every time I turn the car on

  • If it’s an iPhone you can turn off auto join this network in the wifi settings of the phone. Don’t know about android.

  • prob also doesn't want everyone else autoconnecting to it as they drive past?? :)

  • There is an option somewhere in the app to make it connect only to your phone, and it can read out a security code, can’t remember the steps but found it in the app. Also a pretty weak wifi signal
