  • Seems like a good deal, thanks!!!!

Specs are ok for the price but for $200 more I would get a Asus N61J series with a ATI 5730M gfx card and IMO better looks!

Plus, if something goes wrong ASUS are far better to deal with than HP!!! Pitiful warranty service from HP IME, really has turned me off the brand! :o

Sad, coz the specs on these are great for the money! ;)

Well there are two sides to HP… Compaq branded home stuff (with poor warranty support) and the HP stuff sold to business which, at least in my experience, have very good warranty support.

        • Dunno about that, our work IT dept has a nice stack of useless DV5's & DV6's under warranty, purchased under a corporate deal, HP were denying the mobo's the service agent reckoned they needed last I heard…so there are some that would beg to differ! :p

        • DV5/6/whatever are not business grade HP laptops, you pay, you get.

You need to go for proper business models to get the proper business support and excellent global on-site warranty.

        • @stumo,

We're not talking about the machines per se, we're talking about the support thereof! The aforemention machines were purchased (AFAIK) in a corporate deal with HP Australia, whether they are consumer grade laptops is utterly irrelevant, the promise (now, I wasn't privvy to the exact deal, but the IT guys say there was an expectation) of the business grade "very good warranty support" that Pobman mentions was not met, period!

Anyway, the upshot is that this is not a business grade model, nor is it part of a corporate deal; so as you rightly say "you pay, you get" from HP on this model too! ;)

All the good HP business models come with their own "3/3/3" 3 year onsite warranty. This warranty belongs to the laptop, not the user/owner. If you have a problem with one, even if you don't own it or have any proof of purchase, almost anywhere in the world, you just log a support case with HP online or by phone, and they will send someone out to fix it within 3 business days.

For the past 6 years I've been buying these laptops online off eBay for my own use at knock down prices. And as long as they have warranty remaining, I'm good to go.

Best one was a 6mo nw9440 which I paid 600 quid for imported from UK with 2.5 years warranty left. After using it for a year and a half, my usage changed and I started using it with an external monitor. This showed up a serious design fault which HP couldn't fix. So they gave me a brand new 8710w local model, worth about 4k at the time, which came with a new 3/3/3 warranty.

These warranties can be extended at any time too.

HP consumer models also get HP consumer warranties. I'm not sure if you can upgrade them to business warranties. They are totally separate departments within HP, they only share the HP name, and they definitely cannot be compared as you have found.

    • Except different model number and $$, i cant figure out whats the difference between the one above and the one you mentioned. -

      • There's no difference between the two - just a model/build date change.

The 3032TX was released sometime in June whereas the OW model was released sometime after the financial year.
