Optus $30 SIM for $5 @ Optus Online Store

700

A whole $5 cheaper than this deal with free delivery (express to metro cities). People in the past have complained about receiving expired SIMs so keep that in mind. 28 days expiry.

Update: Deal back on, thanks aman00024

  • why they dont make it available in store, i am not sure. they will do more work by doing it online (system, payment, packing, delivery, labour, etc).

    • +1

They send out the sim packs by startrack next business day. Must cost them more than the $5. 10 GB data until 4/2 so you probably wont receive it in time.

      • +1

yes thats why i said better to do this promotion in stores as well. save them postage cost. or do it through woolies and coles and aldi etc. i hate startrack

        • They just leave it in your letter box. No signature required.

I'd say those who purchase it from the retail stores don't know better and are happy to pay full price eg. tourists, technology illiterates, need a working SIM straightaway. Marking them down just means less sales from that market group.

  • When does this need to be activated by? Can't tell from the website

    • 4/2 to get bonus data. Otherwise usually around a year.

      • +1

Confirmed, I asked Optus (live chat). You can active whenever you like (7/4/18 is the end of this sale).
However, if you want bonus 7GB. You must active before 4/2/18 + recharge.

  • If the sim you receive is expired you can get the credit put on a new sim - but it takes a lot of effort (i.e. >1 hour at Optus stores and >1 hour on Optus chat).

I got sent a dodgy expired SIM when I ordered via Optus online about 2 years ago and I can vouch it took more than an hour to sort out at an Optus shop. It expired even before the date I bought it online.

There should be some authority to be able to complain too that they even do that.

For anyone who previously ported to Optus, was it quick? I did once and it took a while and it required them calling me up and confirming details etc. It's much easier with Kogan/Lebara and almost instant but if the process with Optus is now as simple, might give it a go at this price! :)

    • +1

It depends if you are not from an Optus reseller, like Virgin and a whole bunch of others it should be relatively quick

      Otherwise prepare for a nightmare

I've ported from Telstra and Vodafone to Optus without hassle. I'm now in the process of trying to fix a failed port from Optus to Kogan. Oddly, I've already ported one number from the same account without issue.

I've ported every month between a good deal of MVNOs and the 3 main telcos themselves (Optus included), and have only had trouble with Woolworths Mobile while they had some issues that were disclosed on their website. Every other port was painless. This has been about 2 years of porting each month.

I will note that the first time I ported a new number, I did have some issues because the Vodafone didn't record my DOB somehow so the port was failing due to an "incorrect DOB".

      • Yep same.I've averaged about $3 per month now for the last 2 years porting sim to sim. Woolies and Optus I've had some problems with but savings have been worth it for the few hiccups.

      • Thanks everyone. I usually port between Kogan and Lebara but have currently ran out of codes. Pretty certain I was porting from Kogan to Optus and had to ring them as it did not go through. They then had to ring and verify all my details (first time this has occurred in all the times I've been porting monthly).

I've just ported to Woolies this month (which took a little longer than expected) so hope there's no issues porting out like you experienced!

Will give it a go šŸ‘

        • My Woolworths issue was just the delayed port in, something like 3 days but they did disclose they were having porting troubles. I suppose not exactly a "problem" I experienced but it was markedly different from the usual 0-12hrs with other MVNOs. Had no problem porting out. My DOB issue was porting into Woolworths as well but that was Vodafone's fault and the Woolworths support team was helpful in sorting it out (had to contact Vodafone and ask them to fix the DOB).

I used to bounce between Kogan and Optus often without issue, hopefully yours was a one off.

This a start pack, don't think you can use it for recharge.

You need to activate the simcard that came with the phone, this deal won't stack.

  • +1

    1) can you use this deal to recharge an optus prepaid plan?

    if not

    2) is there a strategy where you can just port out to a 2$ telstra sim then go back to optus with this deal?

    • 1-no

      2- yes, do it

  • Almost miss this deal. THANK YOU Op! Got one. Appreciate it.

back of sim says "Activate within 30 days of purchase …". Does optus enforce this?
