What mean wear on Black Tie Event?

What do men normally wear on black tie event?

Black tie is not a problem but is it mandatory to wear black suit, black pant and black shoes or any other other colour could be worn for e.g.blue?

Bogans will just wear a blacksuit. Anyone with any class with wear a tuxedo.

  • Keep it simple, keep it formal. No loud colours or patterns.

If in doubt, it's always better to be overdressed rather than underdressed.

Edit: This is pretty spot on:

Shorts, blue singlet, thongs, black tie. Flannel shirt (sleeves cut of) for when it gets cold, Brut 33 after shave, that will bring the sheilas in.

Winie blues on the shoulder to complete the look.

      • Southern cross Tattoo on one arm, Ned Kelly tattoo on the other.

Full black tux and bow tie in my book, although someone will try his luck in brown shoes or novelty jacket and only regret it on social media. Bow ties need different collars so it's a bit of a job lot. If you want false modesty, try waistcoat flair.

Traditionally Black Tie is a black suit, white shirt and black tie, but depending on the event and if you want to be more edgy here are some options

No, that’s the bogan version. Black tie is a tux. You can tell the guys who never wear suits because they are the ones who wear what you suggested, and look like they’re on their way to the local magistrate’s court.

      • Or a funeral! Sorry, I meant a black tux.

    Wear a Tuxedo

    Blue suit isn’t acceptable

Black suit makes you look like you couldn’t be bothered

If you aren't going to do this very often it is worth looking at an Op shop. We have bought a Tux in the past from an Op shop. Just check there are no moth holes.

I went to a black tie event last night. I rocked up to the venue dressed like this, courtesy of this deal.
Furthermore, I broke all laws of probability last night, as Pr(pulling in Sheilas | Wear Lowes Floral Suit) > 1.
I am indebted to Lowes and OzBargain for helping a nerdy maths geek pull in the ladies even easier than the dumb bogans in attendance.
TL;DR: Wear a Lowes Floral Suit, guaranteed success rate with the ladies.

You could well be a MathNerd, but you're definitely not an EnglishNerd!!

I would double check with who sent the invite.
Some people stating a dress code don't know what they are asking for, and think 'black tie", "formal" and "lounge suit" are interchangeable.

    StyleForum to the rescue.

But ask the organiser as mskeggs suggested. Depending on the occasion (i.e. if it's not a proper black tie event), you might be able to get away with a black suit instead of a tuxedo, a black tie instead of a bowtie or a white button down shirt with French cuffs instead of one that takes studs.

Pointless turning up in a full blown tux if no one else is going to…

  • If you are going to buy a dinner suit / tuxedo and thibk you will wear it again in future, then do it properly and buy one that looks nice and fits.

    • " … [have to be] black shoes or [can wear] any other colour, e.g. blue?" Only if they're suede. And for Chrissake, don't let anyone step on them.

      • Just black shoes. A real now tie is cool too. Just make sure you practice and practice how to tie it. And at the end of the night you can undo it let it loose like a cool dude

“For men, the elements of black tie are:

    A white dress shirt
    A black bow tie
    An evening waistcoat or cummerbund
A dinner jacket (called a tuxedo in the United States), of black or midnight blue wool, in which the jacket lapels and trouser braid are of silk or other contrasting material
Black Oxford (without brogueing) dress shoes or patent leather”

    Officially this is it.

My son often goes to such events and it is the black bow tie, black shoes and black pants and jacket. You could get away with a jacket in that very deep blue that is hard to distinguish from black.

Many will be wearing an actual tuxedo - which he has too. He wears that to the black tie - if it is important enough to him. Otherwise he can be radical and go just the black pants and jacket but always white shirt and bow tie - and he chooses the proper bow tie you tie - not the ready made version.

  • I am sure you can hire a tuxedo
