Xiaomi Air 13.3 Notebook 8GB RAM 256GB SSD Intel Core i7-8550U Deep Grey (Pre Order) $976.99 USD / $1248.76 AUD @ GearBest

80

Stumbled upon this revised version of the Xiaomi Air 13.3 with 8th gen i7 processor on GearBest preorders.

Seems like a very competitive price given that GeekBuying are trying to push the i5 version for just $20 less.

A very popular laptop here and still with the MX150 dedicated graphics. Improvements this time around include the updated Kaby Lake R processor (8th gen) and Xiaomi claims they have improved the thermals significantly from the 2017 model. This model is also in a deep grey colour compared to last years silver.

CPU: Intel Core i7-8550U
Graphics: GeForce MX150 with 2GB GDDR5
RAM: 8GB DDR4
Screen: 13.3-inch FHD display

Ports: 1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 3.0 w/PowerShare, USB Type-C, audio jack, HDMI
Connectivity: Intel Wireless AC 8265 (802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1)
Camera: 1MP HD webcam
Weight: 1.31kg
Size: 30.90 x 21.10 x 1.48 cm

Things to take into account buying a laptop like this are obviously buying from China take warranty very lightly. Also the probable chance of a 10% import tax as it's over $1000.00 AUD.

  • Anyone worry about warranty?

    • Fortunately I haven't had any issues with any items I've purchased through GearBest. I have read some issues from other users however.

      • Yes I've had problems with GB with cheap items, I wouldn't risk on something anywhere near even half this price

  • Does this price include 10% GST as it’s above the 1000$ threshold?

    • No

    • Negative. Check the bottom line of the post.

  • coffee lake processor

    Kaby Lake R actually :)

    • Thanks for that one. Corrected!

    • Each to their own. Perhaps an imitation of Apple but to build this same laptop at Apple is $2,679.00 AUD.

          Thanks for your feedback.

          Eat your Snickers

        • Stop talking out of your rear. If you did some research you'd see these actually have vary comparable built quality to apple. Only thing I wish is it has speakers above the keyboard not downfacing but that's literally it.

Plus it runs windows which means you don't have to deal with Apples terrible OS..

        • @bloobat:

Yeah research like their phones, had 2 rmn3's, the biggest pos I've ever owned and that's only spending $200. Good luck on me spending anywhere near the asking price on this crap.

The only risk on any expensive xiaomi item would be the xiaomi mi robot, which is $300+. But that's as far as I will spend. Its xiaomi for (profanity) sake. The company has been around for how long and already prices are starting to become a joke like this, some of their phones, pillows etc. As well.

Guess some are brighter than others

          @bti_jet:
Wow your ignorance is astonishing. This device (yes I own) shits on it's Mac competitor, and design I actually consider slightly above, work the exception of the hinge feeling a little light for my liking compared to my girls MacBook air.

It's Xiaomi - so far proven to be a reliable brand. The Chinese government are literally assessing their quality as part of an incentive to change the worlds view on Chinese electronics.

I worked in a computer repair store for a while. The number of Apple computers needing repair was very high, especially considering the low number of Macs around at that time.

My girlfriend's air is actually the only Apple laptop I know that's lasted more than two years. At this point I'm confident is saying that Apple release trash laptops, with the exception of the Air.

So enjoy being ripped off, while using inferior technology, and as mentioned - a horrible, horrible (and partially abandoned) OS.

$1370 for this including GST or $1709 for the new xps13 on dell ebay. I know which one I would be buying.

    • I do rate the Dell XPS also! I just wish they would update the design as it's a bit dated!

      • XPS did get updated, there are two 'new' XPS laptops.

        • Is there a version with USB - C charging?

        • +1

@adamfury: USB-C charging was already in the previous one, they just didn't give you a USB-C charger. The 9370 comes with a USB-C charger

        • @nubix: Thanks! Might have the check out the 9370 also. Anywhere offering a decent price?

    • do you mean $1799? Or am I missing something?
Plus you are talking about 9360 not 9370 right?

      • yes 9360. 1799 minus 5% with PICK5 code.

    • Is there an XPS 13 with 2GB graphics card?

    • The XPS machines I've had experience with have been nightmares. Touchpad failures, constant screen issues, heating issues, and throttling so bad under load you have to abandon the machine.

But the warranty and customer service is amazing. They'll fix those problems 3 times a year for 3 years without the slightest bit of attitude.

      After the warranty ends though…

Honestly so far Toshiba have been the only laptops I've had luck with. Never seem to fail hardware wise. They do have their crippling problems though (seem to insist on using their own drivers for everything)

Anyway, I'm sure I'm the only one who will read this, so I'll just go back to my beer now. Got one of these (7th gen processor) couple months back. So far perfect, but let's see how it goes after a year.

  • Worth stating it's probably not worth getting the i7 over the i5 for most people as the difference in performance is quite small and the i7 runs hotter.

With Dell doing 20% ebay, i think might be marginally better value to get the XPS instead

  • Sigh still no touch screen
