      Thanks for thanking me.

  • +1

Cheers OP! Didn't know these were IP44 rated. Not 'waterproof' but OK to handle a bit of rain every now and then. Probably not UV stable though so I'd say they'd go crispy orange after a few months in the sun :( Still got few anyway :)

    • +2

You play in the rain? Cool. Does it help with cooling?

      • "Watercooled"

        • +1

Cool, did you over clock it to 10ghz?

        • +1

@BrodenIt: Nah ill just cycle between red and blue to keep it fast and cool

        • @Divitini: I'm a fan of blue personally but I'm told Red makes things go fastest!

      • Yes & yes :)

  • anyone know if these LED strips can somehow be modified or attached to an adapater to connect to a PC Motherboard RGB header?

  • +2

Be aware that this is the older type single colour per LED strip.

Newer type has a multi-LED chips which do all three RGB colours each, this one has three seperate LED's, one for each colour, layed out in sequence along the strip.
It is clearly shown in one of the pics down the page in the Product Description area.
I'd steer away from these as they are by far an inferior product.

These are the better LEDs https://www.adafruit.com/category/168

All 3 colours on one SMD and you can make fancy patterns with an Arduino.

      • How about this one on LightInTheBox? Photos look like its all on one SMD

        • Actually this one even cheaper @USD $5.99! 50% off right now too. 5050 version RGB on one SMD with remote.
          https://www.lightinthebox.com/5m-300x5050-smd-rgb-led-strip-…

        • +4

No, that's also garbage. You can see the +/- , R, G, B pins on the cable (scroll down the page). Means you can only set the WHOLE strip to be one colour unless you cut it.

The good ones will have + / Din / - and on the other side + / Dout / -

Some nicer ones will have two data pins.

Also you can get that 5050 LED on ebay with better value:

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RGB-LED-Strip-Lights-IP65-Waterp…
          $10
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RGB-LED-Strip-Lights-IP65-Waterp…

Electronics crap is usually always cheaper on ebay than it is on gearbest / litb / banggood etc.

          This is the better LED

        • @Mirage:
Uh, sure. $6 is pretty cheap if you want that version.

        • @Blitzfx:
Could you suggest any necessary items to use the LED strip you suggested in my garage to turn on automatically when it senses motion then turn off after a while?

Any particular 12v adaptor or sensor? Would that be all?

        • +1

          @gummibear:

I am using some TDL 2023 PIR Infrared Motion Sensors

It connects with the standard power plug fittings and there are variants with time adjustment, lux adjustment etc

        • +1

          @gummibear:

I haven't used a motion detector before but I'm using an Arduino to drive the LED strip in my display case.

Like spaceflight said, you can use that sensor or you can follow the instructions here:

          https://learn.adafruit.com/pir-passive-infrared-proximity-mo…

Sensitivity range: up to 20 feet (6 meters) 110° x 70° detection range

You can get knockoff sensors that do literally the exact same thing for cheaper.

Just hook it up to the Arduino and run everything off it, just don't power too many LEDs with just the 5V rail. Might need to get an extra 5V power / plug pack

Those LEDs are spec at 5V btw, don't put 12V unless you know what you're doing.

Also if you're just turning it on and off and not using any fancy patterns, just get the cheapo $6 LED strip and not the one I linked. Just a waste if you're not taking advantage of the individually controlled LEDs

These descriptions seem forced now so it's no longer funny

    • Don't worry, We will live. Please don't nuke me.

You have failed to entertain your dear leader….. Tsk tsk tsk

  • Had this one for 2 years (or something that looks exactly the same). Stuck it behind my screen because back in the day, mood lighting was the buzz on the street. Although don't back-light with this, you'll get dizzy and have serious eye strain after a while. Now days, I just have a single Phillips HUE. Must better for my eye balls

Pin from controller to the strip is very delicate so don't subject it to any force after installing (I had it a little bit angled)

White light it produces is a mix of the RGB, at least my one was not synced so moving my head or eyes quickly gave me a rainbow effect. This would be true for most cheap LED setups though.

Remote works…most of the time, quite clunky. Care on IR receiver placement. It's on a cable 10cm long attached to the controller box (white one). Not a wide angle so have to be close or kind of center on. Didn't need to replace battery once during two years though.

  • Just bought some warm 3528s from Aliexpress for some lighting in the pantry. Added a PIR motion sensor too.

They still have a $4 off promo going with new signups. Could possibly get the RGB version for under $4 US.

    • If you want a more of and play sensor have a look for a TDL 2023 PIR Infrared Motion Sensor.

It connects with the standard power plug fittings and there are variants with time adjustment, lux adjustment etc

What do you use this for? Can someone upload a pic of a PC with this RGB strip light setup please?

    • +1

You use it for lighting in a strip

      • All the more reason for a pic.

  • Deal seems to be back at a even cheaper price $7.59 AUD

  • +1

I received mine today - and for those interested in the colours, this is a RGB LED light, and NOT a RGBW light which means it's rubbish for the white colour. The "colours" on the remote are rubbish and just a representation of different levels of light from the Red (R), Green (G) and Blue (B).

These are basically useless unless you want a Red, Green OR Blue light.

If you want a nice coloured, or a nice white LED Strip lights - these are not for you.

    • Yeah I'm kinda disappointed as I just wanted to use a whiteish or yellowish light. Think I'll buy one someone else suggested above.
