WD TV Live $98 @ Clive Peeters [Probably Tas Only]

401

Noticed that WDTV live is $98 in the latest Clive Peeters catalogue.

This would be the cheapest I have seen for this media streamer!

I assume this is national - but was in a catalogue insert in Todays Mecury newspaper( Tasmanian). I assume they don't mean the older version as they specify LIVE in the title.

Can you please upload the catalogue?

    • the +1 was for the catalog, was contemplating getting one for the inlaws…

But postage kill that deal :(

  • Nice price but catalogue on website states $124.

  • +2

Can we get a scan of it for price match? I don't think there's any CP in metro NSW anymore?

  • Damn it, I just brought it [still unopened present] for $124 at Officeworks.

    • Since you're in Melb , grab a CPs catalogue and get OW refund you $30.90 :)
Then please post your new receipt so we can do the same for other states.

    • Just return it and get a refund. If they ask for an excuse, say that you got the wrong one or something.

  • I've seen this called a set-top box on various sites. I doubt it can, but does anyone know if it can pickup tv and turn a monitor into tv/media centre?

    • No, this has no tuner capabilities and cannot record live tv.

  • The online catalogue finishes in 2 days, so maybe this is the new catalogue price.

  • I live in Ballarat and we do not have a clive peeters, will the local OW still price match?

    • You can with the CPs catalogue that show $98 or the worse case they included shipping charge
      ie. ($98 + shipping) - 5%

  • Aspley QLD is only doing them for $124 also.

  • $124 seems to be the price… I'd assume the $98 is a typo. Try and get somewhere else to price match the catalogue.

Also, any chance of an upload of the image?

  • How would this compare with an Xbox360, does anyone have any experience about that? Because my Xbox360 is starting to annoy me since it just can't play all the files and more importantly, you can't control it's output volume with it's remote control!

    • the WDTV player is compatible with NTFS, xbox 360 doesn't.
      xbox 360 works with FAT32
FAT32 has 4gb max file size limit. NTFS does not have that limit.

many Hi-Def movies files (dvd9, hdtv cap, HD files from camcorder) are bigger than 4gb each.
your xbox 360 is no good for those.

however, the media player can handles them no worries.

that's the main reason for choosing the dedicated player over your console.

    • get an acer aspire revo and stick xbmc on it
      http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ACER-Aspire-Revo-R3700-320G-2G-RAM-Mi…

It will play every format under the sun, much better than WDTV ever will.

  • not on special at the Moorabbin store, price is $124

  • so the deal is not a deal?

  • -5

Not a deal it's $124 in cat dated Starts 27 Nov - Ends 12 Dec

i've adjusted the title to stop the confusion

dick smith were selling these to staff for $99, so dont rule the possibility, even if it may look like a typo

  • If this is the case, hopefully they will have more stock than DSE. Checked yesterday and local DSE had no stock and had 3 on order. If I had a staff card, i could have snagged one on backorder. They were $157 listed forr public purchase.

$93.10 at keysborough officeworks! Thanks poster!!

    • How did you get that? Did you just tell them it was cheaper at Clives didn't they ask for some proof ?

      • Took in a print out, they called dandenong CP and I think the person on the other end had nfi about anything so he said thats fine, the issue was they needed a date on it thats why they called.

        • Tehe I have visted this post a couple of times and never noticed that jpg upload I must be going blind.

        • Damn Nice Price!
The Dept Manager in Lonnie rang Clive Peeters in Moonah and got the confirmation of $98

    • Trueno, please share your receipt.

  • anyone know if an Officeworks in perth will do a price match as there arent any clive peters over here??

  • +1

This WD TV Live is also DLNA / UPnP Renderer compliant. You can control the device with a free app from the iPhone App Store, ZappoTV. http://bit.ly/ieukUu

  • i managed to get 3 units at 93.10 after price beat at officeworks at QV in melbourne. if anyone's interested i can upload the receipt. the guy i spoke to was very helpful. he tried calling CP in moonah, couldn't get through. but after seeing the newspaper ad from the OP he gave it to me anyway.

but it took me 2 goes! i had to go back in there with "more information" :)

    • Upload your receipt please. I'm going to try first thing tomorrow. The more OW receipts, the better :)

    • Keongyip, I would love a copy of your receipt. Thanks :)

      • +2

i'm not sure how to upload directly here.. but a lousy photo of it from my mobile here: http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/6825/imag0007vx.jpg

        • Thanks keongyip.

I'll post my receipt tomorrow morning if I'm successful.

        • thanks on the hunt tomorrow :)

        • good luck!!!

        • No luck at ow Richmond this morning they insisted on ringing cp who then said $124. I'll try another ow and report back. Will see if I can get to ow qv melb tomorrow.

    • +1

Went to OW at highpoint. The guy there must have known about the offer and didn't even ring or check with CP. Was in and out in less then 2 minutes :). Receipt attached as promised.

Thanks to OP for posting and everyone for uploading their receipts.

  • Does anyone know, if we can plug normal wireless adapter into it to work with my existing wireless router?

    • I got one of those tenda usb network adapters.. wireless N, and it works fine with my wd tv live. My wireless keyboard works fine with it as well.

Note the standard firmware cannot handle > 1 hard disks.
But is ok with the following combination 1 keyboard, 1 wireless network adapter, 1 hard disk.

      • hey calcium. do you have a hub connected to the wd tv live? i only see 2 usb ports. what's the cheapest wireless adapter available? i'm seeing just under $20 for the TP-Link TL-WN821N after postage. i need 2 of the adapters..

        • where can you get the adapter for $20 delivered?

  • +1

to the OP - i haven't said this yet but thank you for this. you really made my day (or weekend!)

Thanks to stilted for posting this, thanks also to keongyip & Trueno for posting receipts as they helped me score one from Office Works in Highett this morning. The manager was a bit dubious and asked me how many I wanted but he was happy enough to let me walk out with one. Am posting my receipt too so that it might help others.

    • can I print this receipt and do the price match at OW Brisbane?

      • Cant hurt to try

  • thanks guys for posting the receipts:) I bought one from good guys a couple of weeks back for $119 which I thought was a bargain at the time and the sales guy agreed that if I find a cheaper price they will refund me the difference so will be heading back in their asap. I might see if I can pick another one up for my parents as well.

  • I was successful at getting an Officeworks in SA to price match. They called up a Clive Peeters store to ask for price of shipping ($11.95). They then added this to $98 and then took 5% of this total. So I was able to get it for $104.45. Receipt here http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/6867/img0058qq.jpg

  • I managed to get a great deal ($93!) from JB Hi-Fi this afternoon at the Doncaster Westfield, VIC. Try your luck with a printout of my receipt. Good luck!

Thanks to the guys who posted pics of their Officeworks receipts. I printed out all three of them to show the guys at JB. They just shook their heads and pricematched. :D

    http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/504/scan0001edit.jpg

    • Unfortunately the bloke at The Good Guys was being quite rude about this.. implying that I had photoshopped this receipt.. along with about 4 other print outs from here, including the catalogue (which are clearly all photographs). Then he claimed that he could photoshop it.. Kidding himself.

    • Ditto at JB Doncaster for $93

  • I am in WA. I went to officeworks in Morley. They refused to Price Match as they started winging that they dont have any competition with the eastern states. What a stupid reason? I am not sure what should I do? I did take the receipts to tell them its your officeworks that is price matching but they say thats Victoria. Any Suggestions???

    • Did you take my receipt in? I'm in SA and I got them to price match even when I showed them the other Vic receipts.

      • Yes I did take all the receipts. But No Success. They called the manger and started giving some crap reasons that its the officeworks of the east. I was like Officeworks is Officeworks and its your store. Not sure how to get this deal. Does someone has that catalogue with the dates and name? The one uploaded here just shows the price but does not show what store and what the expiry date of the offer is!

        • damm i was gonna be going to officeworks morley next week to try get this. may have to try another store.

        • Hmmm, that's a bummer. Is there another store close by?

        • I think I ll give East Perth a try

        • had any luck jatdipasand? i was in osborne park this morning, tried jb first who didnt have any in stock and i found out cockburn is their only store in WA who have any in stock. tried officeworks next who wouldn't price match. said it was a "deal" price so they wouldnt do it.

      • split_city, you could have 1TB cheaper today :)
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/36044

        • Haha, I know! I actually went in to Officeworks today to get them to price match + deduct 5%. However, they had none in stock. Salesman said they wouldn't have any as they were holding out due to release of 3.0 USB. I'm tempted to still get the Dick Smith one but might stop myself and see if larger drives come down in price.

Harvey Norman also had the 1TB elements yesterday for $84 :-)

    • Try what the poster above you did - JB HIFI

  • +2
    • Quick, someone price match this with receipt! Let's see how low we can go! :)

      • He's done it! Got it for $76 at OW. :) You need luck with these things.. if it's the right person, they'll do it, but from personal experience, most people won't..

        http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/7987/img0162io.jpg

        • Grrr!

        • +1

Which OW stores did you go to? I have been buying one of these as an Xmas present for my brother. Looks like it's the right time to get it :D

        • OW in Yarraville.. but I tried stores EVERYWHERE before I managed to snag one. All other stores refused the price match because they stick to the price on the website, unless you bring in a hard copy of the receipt/catalogue.

        • WOW! Well done mate :)

        • I'm going to try my hand at price matching me one of them this arvo. :)

        • +3

From my experience never try price matching from an Indian. Never had any success and they never want to give you a price match.

  • You lucky buggers!

  • Excellent work, am going to try with your receipt…

  • I thought I did well today getting the difference refunded from good guys for the one I bought the other week then going to office works with the receipt and getting one for $93.10 - 5% = $88. $76 is just mad hehe:)

    • I know, now I want that price too :)

      • f*ck it gunna go back into ow next time I am in town and see if I can get the difference refunded

  • Does this deal apply to Sydney shops too? Bought a WDTV a few weeks ago for $124. Not sure if I can get it refunded/price matched.

    • I dont see why not. What store did you buy it from?

      • The OW on Clarence Street, Wynyard.

  • You'll have more luck bringing in the JB Hi-Fi receipt that lextsy posted.. because I tried using a bunch of OW receipts for $93.10 and got nothing, because they ring up Clive Peeters etc.. so bringing in the JB receipt saves them having to ring around. (Unless of course you get a person who is really pedantic about price matching..)

  • Ok peeps it's me again I just refunded my 80 dollar jb hifi receipt and got it for 76 at ow

    http://img408.imageshack.us/content_round.php?page=done&l=im…

Better hurry up before they catch on.

The truth is jb retails at 179 but there was a returned one for 118 and I price matched down to 98 due to this and and they gave me 18 more off for it being a return and so the wdtv 76 dollar price started.

If anyone wants my jb receipt let me know

    • I took the JB receipt to OW in North Sydney today. They called JB and apparently the WDTV are still at $128 at JB so no good for me.

      • So does this deal work in Sydney at all? Wondering if I should even bother refunding the $124 i paid for the WDTV a few weeks ago from OW.

    • Cheers, I managed to get it for $76 at OW yesterday.

      • Which OW store did you go to? I have been trying OW, DSE and JB hi fi without any luck.

        • I'm in VIC so don't think it would help. I showed the guy lextsy receipt on my phone and said that it was from a friend. As mentioned above don't use the OW receipt and don't try price matching from an Indian assistant.

        • I did exactly what HustleGame did. Great form. (Y)

  • try another store and try dick smith too they will match

  • I had bought a unit last week for $124 at OW. Went back yesterday and got a refund. Then went to where the units were on display and spoke to an assistanct. Showed him the JB Doncaster, Vic, receipt and they price matched. Got it for $93-5%. Happy with that. Didn't expect they would accept a Sydney receipt.

  • Quick question - are there are devices like this with a hard drive already built in?

    • The new wdtv hub has the storage built in but as its new its pricey

  • +1

you add external storage or they can be networked either through wireless dongle or ethernet cable. awesome product for the price!

  • Harvey Norman auburn nsw now at $99.
