    Joke?
Includes : CD with software , Smart UPS signalling RS-232 cable
Are these left over from the 90's?

or… you could pay $130 for a 650VA from Jaycar
    https://www.jaycar.com.au/650va-390w-line-interactive-ups-wi…

    • Those Jaycar ones are crap. They output barely enough to conform with AS as they buck not bypass. Stupid design and no way via software to adjust..

So, in your opinion, this is better and a good deal?
        Did you give it a '+' ?

        • Would I pay the $40 more for APC?

          Absolutely..

What's your equipment worth to you?

        • @reecho:
Yeah… 420VA Would probably power my phone an tablet for a while BUT computer, screen and RAID… 30 seconds?
I hope you jumped on this 'deal' :)

        • @just-dave: I never mentioned anything about capacity of the UPS.

        • @reecho:
I did. Specifically asked if this was a better deal than the 650VA.
Your reasoning appears to be it's better to have a good tiny UPS the will run nothing (because your equipment is worth it) than a cheap UPS that will do the job.
          Size matters ;)

        • @just-dave: I said I would pay more for the brand. You interpreted it another way.

        • @just-dave:

i dunno, maybe he was saying a cheap ups may be more likely to blow your eq, or not properly condition/protect the line..

everyone will weight brand/specs/price differently depending upon their application.. each to their own.

    • Stepped Sine Wave = Garbage.

  • same specs for much less money at other retailers/ebay et al

    as per previous comment.

Terrible deal. Seems like a very old model and probably has a old battery thats already stuffed.

Yeah, sorry OP… you can get a far more modern/flexible UPS with over THREE times the stamina for about this price (eg. $184: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CyberPower-Value-SOHO-UPS-4-Outl…)

  • Hi all,

This was an attempt to sell some excess stock, we understand that this is not considered the price best there are newer options out there, although from customer comments in the past, APC is considered to be a very reliable brand.

    Regards

    • All good. Maybe drop them to $50 (or less) and cut your losses? There's still the concern of the age of the battery so they may not even be worth that for many.

      • Hi Steve,
Thanks for the positive feedback, I have changed the pricing to take this into account. We have cut losses on excess stock in the past, and try to avoid losing too much money.

  • Good brand, pure sine wave output - these don't look to bad to me for low-power systems, routers, or anything else below its 260W limit.

As for capacity, what's often forgotten is that it's affected by efficiency. A higher-capacity UPS will often be less efficient at low loads. So, you might have a UPS with twice this one's capacity, but if you're only pulling say 60W (typical for an idle PC), its runtime mightn't be much better.

Key question is whether the ones being sold here are past their 'charge by' date (this is something to watch out for when buying any UPS). If they're not, or not far past it, then it seems like a good deal.

Careful! I dont think the SCs are actually Pure Sine Wave models. See 8th UPS down on this page along with Scope output: https://www.hardwareinsights.com/database-of-ups-output-wave… Pretty sure these are just the usual Modified Square Wave as per most others in this price range.

      • Well, that's disappointing behaviour from APC - calling this a Smart-UPS and touting the "pure sine wave" feature in its product description. Excuse me while I go dine on my own words.

        • Ha, don't be too hard on yourself :) Very good to confirm either way because yes, if it was a Pure Sine Wave model then it would've been an OK-ish deal… assuming the batteries were still OK.

  • The APC SmartUPS are typically very good quality units & this price is far cheaper than anything else on staticice (for example), even without the expensive freight that would normally go along with this heavy device.
Unlike the high-end SmartUPS series, this is Line Interactive (as opposed to True Online) - of course still much better than the cheapie "standby" UPS models.
Note that these usually have the IEC sockets on the back (not Australian Power sockets). Some people like this because it stops people randomly plugging in a Vacuum cleaner thinking its just another power point, but its a bit of a hassle.
My only other concern would be how old the stock is (which would have an impact on battery life).
All-in-all not a bad deal if 420VA is sufficient for your needs.
