This is a great price for a studio subwoofer. It'll go well with your studio monitors, or just your regular speakers, or even your TV.

It won't give you sofa-shaking bass like a home theater subwoofer or doof-doof fully sik bass like a hotted up suby, but it'll give you tight, accurate, deeper bass for your music or whatever you're watching.

It has an 8" driver and has XLR, TRS (i.e. large headphone-style), and RCA inputs. There are also passthru outputs for you to connect it inline with your existing speakers.

      Yup it'll work, that soundbar has a dedicated subwoofer output.

    Just to reiterate this is a studio sub. It is definitely not suitable for home cinema movies it will lack low end. It is suitable for music, although still have less low end bass than a good system. It will however have accurate mid range bass.

    However if you only have $200 to spend you probably can't buy a good home cinema sub anyway unless it's second hand. So it will probably perform just as well as a $200 home cinema sub. It will not be as low and boomy or shake the room but it will have much better punch at 50-80hz.

      Agreed - this sub is more for thumpy accurate lows rather than woofy doof-doof lows.

      When used for music and connected to studio monitors or just bookshelf speakers, it'll likely sound closer to what the mastering engineer intended it to sound like, compared to a large home theater subwoofer.

      When connected to a TV, it'll make the built-in speakers sounds way, way better - it'll be like night and day. It'll also improve sound bars, unless they already come with a good sub. The passive subs that come with some cheaper sound bars are really anemic.

      Are you not using the Aktimate's USB input? If you're using the analog input on the speakers then yes you can, but you wouldn't be using the Aktimate's DAC. The sub also won't work with the speaker's Bluetooth input.

        I am using the analogue in from a dedicated soundcard, I found the Bluetooth adapter to be a bit shit, so I soldered up a toggle to switch between a Logitech Bluetooth adapter and the analogue line in from the soundcard. I think I can probably rig it the same way but through the sub so I ordered it anyway. If it's no good I could always use it with a pair of Audioengine a5 I have hooked up at home.

      JBL LSR305 seem to be the best pick overall for price to performance in that range. Reviews and message boards all tend to agree that the 305s sound better than speakers slightly more expensive than it.

    I got a confirmation email straight after ordering. Was charged by Payal also. Still not confident this will be honered as this seems to good to be true.. it's seriously half price based on every other store. Fingers crossed.

      It should be honoured - as it’s displayed as a special on their front page. Whether they have sufficient stock or not (whether their website tracks live stock levels based on orders) is another story :/

        Paypal was definitely listed as one of the payment options because I also used it to put through my order.

        In say that, the transaction hasn't finalised and is still stuck on 'pending'. Fingers crossed the order goes through.

    The reviews describe it as a good value 8" sub. At this discounted price its a great deal.

    I would have jumped on this deal but I already own an 8" JBL home cinema subwoofer that I got at Costco at a bargain! $199.99 JBL SUB 200/230 + 5 speakers which I love and has a great sound + features (ie. up to 160Hz frequency, larger volume cabinet, heavier weight, better appearance). I'd have to wait for a deal on 10" subwoofers before its worthwhile to upgrade.

      For anyone needing headphones, the KRK KNS 6400/8400 are great for the price they're asking. They are pretty flat though.

      Kind of conflicted on the voting system. As far as I'm concerned, @eug has done a bloody brilliant job finding a bargain -> I jumped on it ASAP and gave a positive vote.

        Yeah I dont have a problem with the posting off it as i am sure the poster didnt know this would happen. The catch though is this also raises awareness for the store with lots of positive votes as well as the "deal / Sale" and in this case neither the store or the deal deserves it as there doesnt seem to have been a deal due to the stores terrible stock keeping. so far not one person has confirmed they will be getting a sub woofer.

      Nup and i’m furious! They promised they’d transfer it to my account last Thursday, rang them this morning and they said it will be taken care of soon! Bunch of liars who are more than happy to take our hard earned $ and just return it whenever suits them.
      Worst company i’ve ever dealt with and I’m contacting the ACCC regarding this whole saga and I encourage everyone else who has been messed around to do the same.

      Finally got my refund after raising a dispute through PayPal.
      Considering that I paid 11 days ago and I had to go through a dispute process before I finally got my money back, I am astounded that ABH are still operating.

      @Mods - I think ABH should be banned.

    I got my money back yesterday but that was only after I kicked up a massive stink and spoke with the online manager. I have to be honest and say that this has been the worst Ozbargain purchase I have EVER made! Like you said, 11 days since we paid and it’s taken this long to do the right thing by us. Ban ABH forever OZB because I certainly have !!!
