  • Do people usually get successful price-matches when bringing in receipts like this?

    Great price though!

    • Receipts are generally well accepted by Retailers given the store is nearby and/or a competitor.
JB Hi-Fi IMO are much generous price-matchers than Dick Smith or Clive Anthonys

  • Good deal, too bad my tv is still in great condition…

    • I'll be happy to help you with your problem if you like.

  • +7

If anyone was wondering, it is a TV.
40" LED-backlit LCD, with USB media player.

  • You are very welcome spawnpoint (by the way I am a he….let me check… yes I am. :)

    • Careful checking too frequently dude, I'm told it's not great for the visual accuity! :p

  • is this deal from the dick smith staff sale with a price match ?

  • HOw is the TV?

  • +2

its a 50hz led…..probably better getting the 40ex500 at least 100hz and the difference is definately noticeable

    • +1

You're right, this looks a bit juddery compared to the EX500.

      • +2

there is almost no difference between 50hz and 100hz. marketing gimmick

        • unless you're watching live action sports ;)

        • +1

          @spawnpoint,

Even then the difference is negligible! I'm with uraha on this one! Remember, it's not a 'real' difference in refresh rate, it's simply a motion compensation algorithm applied to try to insert extra frames to smooth the image!

It honestly doesn't really look any better to me for sports, and IMHO makes some movies & TV shows (depending on the framerate) look quite odd! FWIW, I was at a DSE store yesterday, they had a Samsung 100Hz set next to a Vivo 50Hz, the Sammy looked jerky as hell in comparison; now we all know Samsung make decent TVs…but it just shows, poor initial setup has far more to do with image judder than lack of MC! ;)

    • Once you are shown the difference you cant not see it

I cant live without it now…..try watching Terminator 3 , quite a lot of panning shots in that movie

      Judder drives me mad now

      • Congratulations, you've been sold on the MC hype! The modern equivalent of the 'Emporer's New Clothes!' :p

What you're seeing has nothing to do with 50 vs. 100Hz; it's due to movie framerate mismatch being poorly interpolated on your TV set! Check the source framerates on your movies, you may need to adjust your set accordingly! ;)

Just google 3:2 pulldown and PAL/NTSC/film telecine! :)

  • I have this TV

Very happy with it and just bought a second one for a friend.

878 is a great price, cost on this thing is about 1190

  • I managed to get an EX500 for $800 the other day.

    • how many inches and where from? can u post the receipt?

      • 40 inch from JB in Prahran. No idea how to upload reciepts

        • Can you make a scan and upload it to this website: http://tinypic.com/
then paste the link back here? :) much appreciated.

Please post if anyone successfully price match it.

I tried a JB but they won't match because its a different region. (Even though its the same company?)

  • Just called JB Hi-fi in Liverpool, NSW - they said that this price was part of a crazy sale they had going on at the time and won't price match it.

    • Thats bull..I went to JB Hi-Fi Fyshwick and they matched it without any problems. Ask for the Manager and show him their price-match policy

      • +1

Since when did JB HIFI have a price match policy?

We don't have the Right to demand a price match. We can ask ( or beg and plead :P ) and hope to get it, or take our business to another place. Nothing is set in stone, some stores/managers/sales people are willing to sacrifice margin to get a sale, some aren't that desperate.

I usually find the smaller less busy stores are more willing to talk turkey than the larger, busier ones as they are more desperate.

And sometimes someone just gets themselves a kick arse deal. Right place, right time, right sales person.

I know we all like a bargain. But its getting really old hearing people chuck big tearies because someone got a win and they can't have it too.

Congratulations to the OP. Good Luck to the everyone else. But remember, being a jerk gets you nowhere.

        • I guess the fyshwick sales rep must be desparately trying to find a price match policy since I told there was one and he said no problem, I hope he doesn't get fired :/

  • JB HiFi - won't price match in Perth

    • Great OP!!!
I just called another Melb metro JB who said the HOT deal was $1,241. When I asked him to match a sister store price of $878 he LOL'd.
He then came back saying he'd price match upon presentation of the receipt to show his manager. Nice!

      • Same here, but they wanted the actual copy of the receipt and not a scanned copy of it. Any way to get around this? Anyone successful with the uploaded copy? Did people print it off or show them straight off their phones? The person I spoke to said that it was on special at $1241, and $878 was just crazy.

        • +1

I printed mine off….Ask them to check the reciept number..they can verify receipts from any JB Hi-Fi in Australia

    • Tried again today. Same answer but managed to get down to $1099. Said couldn't price match due to price model in Perth and delivery charges to this side the country.

  • Out of curiousity, I called JB Brighton were the original poster bought theirs. Guy said it was a friends and family night and best price was now $1,090 (currently $1,241 sticker price).

    • mate many people have got it for $999 so it can't be friends and family. F&F is 20% which on $1241 does not come to $878

      • Spawnpoint, if 20% was the F&F deal, then you're correct in saying that the figures don't agree.
We all know the OP got a killer deal by the receipt posted above.
I called Werribee Plaza last week and the guy I spoke to said as long as a copy of the receipt was provided, the deal was on.
Went in there a few days later and the (other) salesman so "No chance".

Called back later and spoke to the original guy who said he would do it.
And guess what?… He did. Legend! No silly qns asked or hassles.

I paid $878 for this TV yesterday and the bluray redemption is still available for $25 postage.
Jean, you're a freakin' legend! And thats why I love JB so.

Photocopy of the receipt was accepted. BTW, as if you'd hand your original receipt over to someone for price matching. It clearly states you need this original for warranty claims.
As Bargain put it, it's absolutely who you speak to, even if it's at the same store.

        • +1

dude I am the OP ;)
Thats exactly what I'm saying what you just said. It depends on who you talk to but you should also note the date which did not occur on any of the F&F days.
All I'm saying is that you challenge the salesperson, eventually he will back down given its the same freaking company. Persistence is the key!

  • I called everywhere to get this price matched. I called other JBs, Myers and HN - all with the same response - cost is $1050 or something?
The manager at JB said they stuffed up with that transaction and took 15% off their cost instead of 15% off their price on 08/12. No luck…but it comes down to who you speak to and how you ask for the price and how lucky you are…

I got one matched last Friday and picked it up yesterday from David Jones in Wollongong. $878. You can speak to Dina from the department. I ordered it over the phone…no deposit needed, got a phone call as promised and I have unpacked it and I have sent away and paid my $25 for the blueray.

  • Sorry Spawnpoint for missing the fact you are the OP.
Having said that, many thanks for posting this and more so, for making the extra effort to scan the receipt.
You've saved me a bundle of cash and that's the whole essence of this site. You've made my Christmas! Had this been the Brownlow, I'd have given you 3 votes.
