  • WOW

I just paid nearly $500 for a 1 way Sydney to Bacolod :(

    • I was waiting on a sale with Qantas for $600 return to Manila. and I bought this for $140 a person return, plus maybe $100 on bags if any. Still a whole lot cheaper.

Team, just keep in mind Manila is very average city. Try to get connecting flights to the islands

        or Dubai

Yuck… I'd rather stay in Manila.

      • +3

You probably will meet more Filipinos in Dubai and they arent as nice as the ones in Manila.

Dubai is overrated. Expensive and the locals are up themselves.

      • +1

You had me at other Asian countries but lost me with Dubai

      • LOL Dubai.

Just don't denounce Mohammed or you might find yourself in prison or even stoned to death.

Having been to the Philippines many times with my Filipina partner, I'd have to agree. While there are some beautiful places to go in the Philippines, Manila isn't one of them.

I'd personally recommend either mountain cities like Sagada/Banaue/Batad or beach cities like Boracay/Palawan/Bohol.

      • Palawan and Bohol are not cities….

El Nido in Palawan and Malapascua in Cebu are two of my favourite spots.

I love the place and the people.

        • Yeah I was wondering if anyone would call that out..

Still they are good places to go.

Speaking of Cebu, I love Zubuchon. Best lechon ever.

Calling Manila a average city is very generous. As a Fil-aus Manila is not really a good city. Overcrowding and slow traffic with heavy pollution. Yes it feel safer with the fight against drugs but you still have to be overly cautious as a Westerner.

I had my wallet eyed on in the open when shopping on the street market.

You are better off getting out of the city. Bohol, el nino, Tagaytay, Baguio and other places.

      • By the fight against drugs you mean the state sanctioned murder of political opposition .

        • +1

No, he means the execution without trial or arrest of drug traffickers and their associates.

        • +3

No he means killing of drug traffickers who show no regard for their clients.

There is always collateral damage in a war.

And the same drug traffickers were killing many more innocents before the war begun. It just wasn't mentioned in our left wing press.

        • Yeah it's unfortunate that people wish to pass judgement after just reading a news article without actually understanding the situation there. People don't seem to realise that Philippines is nothing like Australia. There is a literal drug war going on there using over 2 million illegal firearms. It's actually easier to buy an illegal gun in the Philippines than a legal one.

Criminals are often better armed and prepared than the police that are pursuing them. So when Filipino police feel threatened, they shoot first ask questions later. I don't particularly agree with this but I understand why it happens. It's also hypocritical of us to vilify Philippine government for this when we have let American police do the same thing for decades.

In Manila the reality check is seeing Security on Banks and petrol stations carrying submachine guys, and road blocks for 'stop and search' all motor bike riders because most of the crime is via motor bikes.

  • Impressive price but unable to verify at present. Tried looking for end of November flights and website keeps crashing.

    Very keen at these prices!

  • +2

I read this as you booked your family on a one way flight. Now THAT is tempting…..

  • +1

Definitely some at this price, I saw a fair few around the june/july period, and only a single one in October.

    • Bear in mind that June is the start of their typhoon season, with it peaking around August/September then finishing in November.

Do not take drugs with you.

      Bring a mule

Not worth the extra excess luggage and they don't usually allow animals.

        • If you have much excess luggage you may wish to enlist the assistance of a Falcon Heavy

  • +4

    Horrendous airline.

Smaller than normal seats, regularly delayed by hours & will never give a cent back no matter the circumstance (even when its their fault)

    So bare that in mind!

    • +1

I agree…I knew someone who's flight was postponed twice coming back to Australia from Cebu.

      Absolutely ridiculous.

    • Sucks you got downvoted. My experience with Cebu was absolutely awful and I would never fly a connecting flight with them again. I dont care about small or uncomfortable seats when youre paying low fares, but my issue was that they couldnt organise the transfer from manilla to HK. They couldnt understand it at Manilla airport. This was at their transfer desk. There were many of us. It happened BOTH ways. They lied and told us that the flight had been delayed when people started to complain. We all missed our connecting flight on the way to HK even though our luggage went through. Happened on the way back but they managed to figure it out and we had to run through the airport to be able to board in time.

  • Couldn’t find anything. Might be cheaper catching the bus.

  • +3

Manilla is a sh*thole, I wouldn't go there again if they paid me $119.

    • +11

Manilla is a small town in NSW, haven't been there but thanks for the heads up.

Nice pickup on the extra L.

You must be popular at parties.

        • +2

          You type… at parties!?

    • You know you don't have to stay in Manila right?

  • Maaan I wish I could go back to Coron!

  • +4

If I did buy these tickets, it would be the first time my accessing my Filipino Spotify in the Philippines!

    • I couldn't get a philipines spotify to work. Still… If I flew over on these flights to sign up I'd still save some money.

      • funny I have philippines spotify i got it for like $2 for 3 months and like $3 per month after. You will need a Philippines Credit/debit card.

Look for cheap flights to Singapore. Then Cebu is only $30 flight from Singapore. Plus you get to enjoy the airport and avoid Manila.

  • Wow. So many people don't like Manila.

We are planning to spend a week there (after seeing other islands, etc).

    1. Would like to get some teeth removed in Manila.

    2. Once that starts healing, where is a good recommendation to explore nearby?

    Prefer affordable nature, beauty, etc.

    • There are legit reasons not to like Manila. Staying there is a big sacrifice for having some teeth removed. I would recommend saving the money on Manila accommodation and getting them removed in Aust. Puerto Galera is a hell of a lot nicer place to go to, and easy to get to from Manila (Bus-ferry)

      • Thanks,
        Looking into Puerto Galera.

        Appreciate it.
