Upvotes for Kingsley's! I miss this place :(

    • lol seems like there's a lot of Kingsley fans here

      • Never met a single person who doesn't love Kingsley's and rate it above KFC. Even Americans from the south who love fried chicken and came down to visit. Pretty sure it's just you.

        • I've rarely met someone who didn't grow up in Canberra say anything nice about it. It's seems quite disliked by almost everyone who's moved here for work.

It's the ongoing mystery amongst my friends as to why it's so popular. We've all tried it and all hated it (and we're not food snobs - well one is).

Late last year we were planning a team lunch at work. Someone (who grew up in Canberra) suggested we grab Kingsleys and go eat it in the park. The rest of the team (12 of us - only 2 locals) started cracking jokes about it for a good while.

But if you like it - more power to you. At least you know I wont be in line waiting for it so you'll have a shorter wait.

I liked Kingsley's portrayal of Gandhi.

I agree, it was tender, intense at times yet balanced, and with an inimitable superficial layer. Not to mention, awesome chips.

Their chips are much better. KFC chicken are better unfortunately.

Says a lot about their chicken when their advertising focuses on their chips (which are pretty decent).

      • +1

Their slogan was always "unbelievable chicken, awesome chips"

Right now eating KFC but I regularly get Kingsley’s when I’m in Canberra for work.

I think the main differences (and you can decide if it is a pro or a con) is:
    KFC is:
    * slightly more oilier (pro for me, con for my wife)
    * bit more juicy (due to the oil I would say)
    * tastes great the next day

    Kingsley’s is:
    * has a crispier skin
    * pieces are slightly smaller on average
    * has a tastier herb and spices combo than KFC
    * has really yummy chips (and gravy)

Hmmm. Overall I think I prefer Kingsley’s chicken but I still love my KFC.

    No flavor flavor flavor though,

Mama’s BBQ chicken endeavour hills Victoria do 10 pieces for $10 Wednesday’s. Facebook search for a laugh, and a decent feed!

    Has this started?
I walked past the Woden store less than an hour after doing a grocery run and saw no sign of this deal (or on the website).

Would be eating it right now otherwise! :P

    Too lazy to cook.

Kingsley's goes great with that wonderful Duff! Oh, yeah!

Wow! Didn't know Kingsley's was still going! Haven't been there for maybe more than 15 years? Next time I'm going through Canberra I'll have to drop in.

  • What's the Sydney equivalent of Kingsley's? Looking for a KFC alternative. Preferably close to Roselands/Campsie/Bankstown area

    • Sfc

  • Kingsleys chicken is very ordinary. Too dry and if you ask to drop the wings in a 3- piece pack for instance , they charge you an extra $1.50 . They use stale bread in their torps and burgers and their salads are manky.

I ordered a Torp with sth fry chicken at Tuggeranong Kingsleys on the weekend. Took two bites and threw the rest. Bread was stale and coleslaw was disgusting. Not a fan.

Not a big fan of takeway but Between KFC and them, I'll go KFC each time.

  • When I was working in Canberra for 6mths, my fellow colleagues would rave on about how good Kingsley’s was…the truth hurts though…it’s a bit hit and miss. Yes, the chips are slightly crunchier as they use crinkle cut (ie. More surface frying area), however, their southern style chicken isn’t all that special.

Same goes for KFC, very hit and miss…but more hit than miss.

Regardless, if only Hot and Spicy was a full-time menu item, it will be KFC all the way (when I need a dirty meal)…
