          @iregretmyusername:

Not quite right. You've double counted the $10. Unless you meant you had it accrued from before, in which case it doesn't arise from this transaction and you've just taken the discount away from something else you would have bought at Woolworths anyway.

  • +1

I saw the review and I prefer the Sony in sound quality and ANC. The Bose is a little more comfortable but I get the feeling that I am under the water with ANC. This is much less so with the Sony. I love the Sony UI and wider sound stage. Bought!

    • +1

Nowhere near, get the sony's if you're in the market, at this price it's a steal.

Here's a review for comparison. The NC affects the sound quality, whereas in these and the QC35's, it doesn't.

  • Just called jbhifi and they said come in with a pic of the deal and we match it . They have more stock in sydney for me so if you guys aren't finding stock ring jb

  • No stock in WA :-(

    • Mandurah lol price match jb

  • Thinking of buying some headphones/earphones to use at home or whatever but not sure if this is worth the price tag? I've never bought earphones/headphones >$50.

    What do you guys think?

    • +4

I doubt you need the noise cancelling if it's mostly for home use?

      • Have any crying babies?

        • Funny enough I had my pair conveniently on the bed side table last night. Its the first time I slipped them on and turned on NC because he's crying was driving me nuts after a long week at work… Didn't block it out entirely but enough to give me a good nights rest.

    • +3

These are good for travelling and commuting, if you're just using them around the home then they're not worth the price tag for you, definitely save your money and use cheaper headphones for that usage. But if you're travelling overseas soon, might be a worthwhile pickup. The Bose's made my trip to japan an absolute dream.

      • Thanks. What do you guys think is good for a lower price tag?

        • Are you looking for over-the-ear, on-ear or in-ear?

        • @doweyy:

Any is fine. I have tried on-ear for one of the JBL bluetooth headphones and I really couldn't wear it for long before my ears became really sore/uncomfortable
Edit: sorry just saw your post - thanks for the link! Looks good, I'll check more reviews on it

        • +1

          @kakarot123:

If you're looking for wireless and fairly good ones, you'll probably need about $150 to justify a good set I reckon. The JBL ones seem to be the only decent low-end wireless ones from what I can tell.

I've heard that Bluedio is actually quite good as well for cheap but I haven't had experience with them before. T4S run at about $44 on sale and are fairly decent from what I can tell.

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

They seem quite nice for wired, I haven't experienced that brand before however so I can't really give advice..

        • @doweyy:

          Cheers man.

How often would you want to travel to justify >$300 sony headphones?

        • +1

          @kakarot123:

I couldn't give you an exact number, but to get your money's worth I'd say at least 1 overseas trip per year, or maybe a few domestic trips.

But do you commute to work and hate hearing babies cry / people talk etc? This will fix that problem :) Plus they're very comfortable and make the trip feel so comfortable.

        • @doweyy:

          Cheers man ;)

  • I just picked these up from a Sony Kiosk they price matched, they also offered me free shipping. Glad I waited for a price drop for these. Almost paid 449. Thanks for the deal!

    • Just a heads up, Sony themselves has no stock at the moment so all orders are back ordered. ETA is 05/03/18 but of course that's subject to change. Not sure if it affects you being via a kiosk but I'd imagine you may be?

I found out the hard way as I ordered via Sony with it being "in stock" but then discovered I had a torturous 2 week wait. Literally counting down every day haha. But I shouldn't really complain as I got it for $189.98 (mate's staff account + voucher).

      • They didn’t have stock, but said their warehouse does and will be shipped on Monday. Fingers crossed that’s correct

        • Let us know if you do. Queried last Monday on the phone and yesterday via online chat and both times they quoted me the same ETA. I'll definitely be making contact with them again if you have it dispatched on Monday!

        • Any luck with your order today mate? No movement on my end :(

    • Picked up a pair from Sony Kiosk Castle Hill as well.

They have another 5 in stock and said these have been flying out of store today, thank to Hardly Normal

  • +1

Got 2 pairs from JB price matched, thank OP

  • anybody who uses these in windows can you let me know if they show up as a single or multiple speaker devices in the playback devices?

I want to use these to take calls and also listen to music and am basically trying to avoid this issue https://superuser.com/questions/930251/possible-to-use-bluet… which I have experienced with every headset I've tried (Philips SHB8850C, Sony DR-BTN200, Bose QC35).

My understanding is it is related to the aptX but I'm not 100% on this.

    • +2

i also like to know if there are latency issues when watching a movie. ie delayed sound.

      • I haven't noticed any.

    • +3

I have the original Sony MDR-1000X and I can confirm this problem exists. So I don't think this is a good choice for a gaming headset.

Basically the headset appears as two devices in Windows. Audio playing through the Stereo device cuts out if anything accesses the Hands-free microphone. Sending audio to the Hands-free device sounds terrible like it's mono with a low bitrate.

That said I have an old bluetooth dongle. Maybe I should upgrade it.

      • damn. thanks for letting me know.

My guess is upgrading the dongle wouldn't fix it - the devices are explicitly designed to register like that for whatever reason (I think it's more conducive to pairing with phone/tablets?)

    • Single device for me.

      Using PCIE card, not dongle.

      • CORRECTION: Nope. There really is a second device after all. It appears as Headset all the way down the bottom and I never noticed it.

  • This or the Bose from yesterday has better noise cancellation? I mainly just want to cancel out the traffic noise when I am at home, not listening to anything.

    • To answer my question I think ear plug is best.

    • Most reviews suggest the Bose QC 35II has marginally better NC, but it does depend on which reviews you read (some suggest they're on par and others reckon the 1000XM2 is class leading). I've tried both and they were too close to call personally. Both will do a great job though, can't go wrong with either.

      • Smart man!

      • the true ozbargain would wear one of these over the earphone :).

        • Good idea, since I already have one of this I don't even need to spend a cent. True ozbargain spirit.

    • If you'll EVER use the microphone, get the Bose. Not an audiophile, but having owned both, everything else is similar enough.

    • Tested both in JB (own the Sony). About on par. Will block out traffic noise better than earplugs. Earplugs for me only filter high pitched noises. These things filter out low notes which should work well on cars.

  • Did they fix the headband cracking issue with this version?

    • Yes 👍

      • +1

https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/711980/sony_wh1… so far this looks like a single instance. This was the only reason stopping me until today’s price comes up

        • So $20 or so saving was enough to make you not afraid of them cracking?

        • @lostn: being here for too long I need to learn how to find a reasons to resist deals.

        • +1

The new version should still be better then then original. Had mine for at least 3 weeks and no issues. But with anything if you know about the issue its a matter of taking a bit of care on how you use them. Time will tell if there are more of these issues. Currently it would seem very minimal with how many of them out there so far.

        • @Dedbny: good to know! I’ll pay extra attention to it then

  • Just picked mine up for 310 at jb

    • Damn, I went in and they said they wouldn't price match because there was no stock aroud the area (at Melbuorne Central).

  • Damn I was going to buy these, no stock though. I wanted to go in store and test and try like someone here recommended. Saturday fun sorted, nope no stock :(

    • I find most JB stores have demos of both and you can connect your phone to them too.

  • +1

Do these feel heavy with extended use?
    Disclaimer: I don't lift

    • Not really. However, you accumulate ear sweat on the earcups.

  • Is this deal expiring today?

    • +3

      Saturday ends today, so yes.

  • Same price at sony store. Tested out vs. My bose qc35. Better noise reduction and instrumentals sounded better on the sonys. Vocals sounded clearer on the bose.

    • Same price at sony store

      Where?

      • +1

        Chatswood, weekend special apparently

  • Can I hook these up to my PS4?

    • +2

Only via a wired connection to your controller, not bluetooth.

      • -2

When you "hook" up a headphone, I presume he means with wires.

  • +1

Any recommendations that are heaps better if I don't need wireless and nc. Figured I can always add wireless myself by attaching bluetooth device. Comfort being priority. Thanks.

    • Plenty.

Depends if you want open or closed.

Going to assume closed. Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wired.

If you want open, there's a literal crap ton of headphones I can recommend, plenty of them being cheaper than this.

      • Thanks. i had a look but the style put me off.

      • open back i assume sennheiser hd 6xx?

        • Depends if he's willing to use an amp with it.

For no amp, you can get Fidelio X2 for $240 during a 20% off sale.

        • @lostn: is the Fidelio really good?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: A lot of people say it is. Plus it's only 30 ohms I think.

  • I wore these on my recent flight and the NC was amazing - best investment ever

  • Someone I know who works at HN told me today their cost price is 310 so I guess there won’t be any cheaper local stock for a while barring some stacked eBay sale + promo (and it would most likely be grey imports even if it does).

  • This is the historic lowest price.

I use them with my PC at home when I need the fan on. It blocks almost all of the noise.

They don't get sweaty for me, but they will get warm after a while.

  • Has anyone else had trouble pairing these with Sony tvs? I've got an 8500 series (one year old), go into Settings - Bluetooth, Add device, but it can't seem to find my headphones. Any advice?

  • +1

    Is this good for Pornhub?

    • +5

Can confirm they are good for that purpose. No sound leakage. Just make sure no one sneaks up on you, because you won't hear them.

      • *Saw a wireless headphones, quickly snatch them and run

Make sure you don't wear them in CBD or crowded risky place (both in crime and traffic where theres alot of bikies, bike, scooter)

I've owned the MDR 1000X and been using them for the gym and its really helpful during treadmill as I tend to be distracted when someone smashed in the weight / TV noise / etc. Help to concentrate on your exercise. Especiialy your waifu when she nag at you after you purchased this Headphones, Multi-Purpose

  • I find I can wear the Bose for how long I won't with out any pain or strain.
    How about these?

  • This deal has wrecked me. Bought Bose on yesterday's deal but been on fence with both. Can anyone give a good review of both? Keep reading conflicting reviews.

    • sell that get this

      • Can easily return the Officeworks Bose qc35. Such a hard decision. Do your ears really sweat that much in the Sony's?

        • Same thing here, I just bought a Sony yesterday.

I've been using it for half-day, my ears don't sweat at all while I was in the air-conditioned office. However, my ears do sweat quite easily once I head outside or I am in a room with no air con. But just a thin layer of sweat, nothing much. Just wipe it off with tissue paper.

        • @jkuang180:
What about comfort? The Bose can be worn all the time and I don't feel any discomfort. How about these?

        • @Macgyver:

I would say Bose are more comfortable from the brief trail I had in store. That being said, I wouldn't say there is any discomfort from wearing the Sony. You can feel the headband a bit more than the Bose.

I know comfort is very important for many people, but after compared the QC20 & B&O NC in-ear, as well as the Sony 1000XM2 and QC35. I would have to say, sound quality wise, Bose is not as good as the other two.

In addition, the Bose QC35 ANC actually give me that nausea feeling as soon as I turn it on, which for me is more uncomfortable than the heavier headband and slightly tighter ear cups of Sony.

    • +1

The reason reviews conflict is because each person has different experiences, different ears and head shape. Some prefer one, others prefer the other. You really need to try out both to know for yourself which is better. It differs from person to person.

If you're happy with your Bose, keep it. The biggest thing it has going for it is comfort. It falls behind on everything else. But to many people, comfort is a bigger deal than all other things and that's worth considering. Also comfort differs from head to head and ear to ear. You need to try both if you're on the fence.

But since you already made a purchase, I think your decision is made. No point regretting it.

    • Personally, I find the Bose is more comfortable when I first put it on. But I also feel the uncomfortable pressure with ANC turned on on the Bose.

With the Sony, you can definitely feel the head band is there on your head, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I mean, you are wearing a headphone, what's the problem with feeling it on your head? After using it continuously for hours yesterday, the headband did not cause any uncomfortable feeling for me.

For me, I picked the Sony for the sound quality, the function/features and the better accessories. The "put your hand over the right ear cup and talk to people" function is definitely very using for the many many long-haul flights I take.

One thing many reviews don't mention, is that the Sony app actually allows the headphone to determine your status, as in if you are sitting down in front of a desk or you are walking/running or you are riding a train. Then the app automatically adjust your ANC/ambient setting. For example, if you are staying in one place, the headphone will set to 12 ambient sound and focus on voice, so if your co-worker is talking to you , you can hear it. Obviously, you can adjust the setting freely for each of the 4 scenarios.

But I'd say the Sony is a bit tech-complicated as many of their product is. It's a bit stupid having to switch off Bluetooth on my computer before the headphone will connect to my phone. Because the headphone is programmed to automatically connect to the last device and there is no button or no setting for you to change that. Except if you own a NFC enabled Android phone.

      • How does it know what you're doing? Does it have accelerometers and gyroscopes?

        • I assume it's using the phone to detect your motion. I haven't tested it extensively yet, so I can't confirm.

But then again, Sony even find a way to check the air pressure around you to optimise the ANC, I won't be surprised if they actually added accelerometers and gyroscopes to it. When you turning on this function, the app will actually prompt you to wear the headphone as you normally would, so I guess it's possible they have those built-in.

    • -3

Not sure if u have moved forward returning QC35.

      IF u haven't DONT.

I own both of these. Apart from the funky touch functions, there is absolutely no need to buy this.

-The sound Quality is better on QC35
      -ANC is similar.
-Bose app is much better than Sony.
-Bose are much more comfortable than these, heaps more comfi

Bose QC35 can be found for $350ish, and are definitely worth $30-40 over Sony.

      • I'm at JB hi-fi right now. The touch controls feel great. I get occasional vertigo and I worry the cabin pressure feeling of the qc35 will irritate more on the qc35. I don't seem to get any cabin pressure feels on the Sony. I agree with you that qc35 sounds much mor me balanced and clearer on qc35.

  • Damn it! Just pick one up from JB Hi-Fi yesterday for $367. Price match with a store nearby. I also got a 6.5% discount using the gift cards. So combine with TRS, the actual cost comes down to $309 ish.

Does JB Hi-Fi take returns with no question asked? Harvey Norman is out of stock in Melbourne and have to pay $7.95 for delivery. Is it worth it to go through the trouble for just $18 saving?

    • +1

See if JB will credit you back the difference. Probably won't but can't hurt to ask. If you tell them you'll return it for refund if they don't, it might help your chances.

      • Thanks, maybe I will try that tomorrow. Not sure if they will do it now that Harvey Norman is out of in-store stocks.

    • They'll refund the difference, their customer service is good. Just go in and show them the ad. I have even got a few hundred $ back on a large purchase before, and that was nearly a month after purchasing.

  • JB Hi-Fi wouldn't price match, so stuff them - I placed an order with Harvey's to collect when in stock.

    • I went to JB yesterday and they are more than happy to match the price from Addicted to Audio ($367) for me without even really checking their stock. But with Harvey Norman, I guess all the JB guys already know that Harvey Norman is out of stock and you have to wait for delivery. Probably why they won't match it.

The guy from JB did say that they only price match it if the store is nearby, so no price match for online-only price.

    • Call a few. Some say no some say yes. You're bound to get one to agree.

    • Their loss. It's still above their cost price, they should be happy to do it. Sometimes all it takes is to ask another staff member.
