Thumbs up but as a child myself I can't help this is a piss weak version of a fit bit. Anyone remember the DGen skits of Piss weak World?

He is only seven so until he’s earning the big bucks he can have the lame version!

    • +2

Why would a child want a fit bit?

      • +8

        It's the hip thing

      • +2

just like that cursed loom band and fidget spinners crap

      • +16

Heaps of kids have them. I don’t think it’s a bad thing that they’re conscious of their activity level. I think they see me checking my step count and want to do the same. Plus, the promise of it made homework a breeze this morning… that’s worth eight bucks to me!

      • +3

It's a novelty. Kids want everything for four days, then it just collects dust, especially I would guess in 2018 when attention spans are even lower.

        • +4

This is where you are wrong. :)

My kids have them and they love them. They compare and compete with each other’s on the steps they do.

The app connects to a server and each kids can compete within Australia (without full name for protection but you get to know where you rank in the country).

Then you can also add friends and compete or challenge them over a few days.

The kid can also earn coins by doing more and then dress up the avatar.

It’s awesome. Kids love the idea. It’s not a dumb Fitbit. ;)

@goraygo: Happy to know and happy to be wrong. I think that's a good thing! We had a fitbit competition at my old work, winning team could choose which charity to donate the winning prize and people started walking crazy numbers after a couple of days so I guess adults are no different.

          Hi Russell Coight.

      • Why would anyone want a fitbit ?
I have samsung smartwatch, used it for about 1 week before the novelty wore off regarding doing things on a watch, that are much easier and faster to do on my phone.
Im not a watch wearer though. If i was going to wear a watch anyway, I would probably be wearing a smart watch or fitbit kind of thing.

        • +1

I'm using a Xiaomi Mi Band 2. As far as doing things on a watch I just use mine to check the time and how many steps I've done. Some days it's really low so I go for a long walk after dinner to bring up my steps. It's good to be aware of how much you're moving.

        • @Agret:
Thats good that your using it. I was thinking to get mine out to use waterproof watch at waterpark (just to see how long till park closes, how long we're on certain rides) .
It honestly sounds like the milo 1 would be fine fot you.
Like I found, all the fancy features 'smart watches' are capable of these days, yet in the end you just use it for time and steps count :)
I do think the new apple watches have a better idea, the apple watches that you can actually use your same phone number, and answer calls on your watch (even when your miles away from your phone) .
Anything on a smart watch, which requires I be close to my phone (blutooth) or close to home wifi, is a fail to me. If Im 30metres away from my phone and I want to do something, im going to grab my phone.
The apple watches, I have been told they connect in some where there is like a clone sim of sorts in watch, so you can be going for walk or some other activity where you dont want the bulk of your phone, and can still answer calls etc on the go. My brother said their neighbor uses it while out in farm padocks also, well away from phone and blutooth.

Yes but the Mi Band 2 is only $20-25 from AliExpress anyway so it wasn't a huge investment :)

The battery lasts for weeks at a time so I just wear it 24/7.

        • @Agret:
Cool. $25 is a good deal. My samsung was like $300, but I got a deal, as I was cleverly buying/selling/trading electronics, phones, gadgets online.
I think I might have 1 of those mi band things laying round somewhere. Unless I traded it. I think they were giving them away as a bonus with certain phones at some stage.

      • Why would a child want a fit bit?

Every male child wants a fit bit.

    • Hmm, I'm a child too, just like everyone else on this site, and frankly, the world.

    • Yes. Yes I do 😂😂

  • +1

    Thank you Op!
I've been pested for one like daddy's too and I said next time Xiaomi Miband2 is on sale I'll grab one. But this is even better!

  • Does this have some clock function

    • +8

      Some kind of walking clock?

      • +5

I’d wager he has some variety of walking clock in that box

    • +2

Yep, it shows the time as well, once you've synced it using the app. This isn't that easy to do though, as the app is utter garbage. Very hard to actually get it to sync in my experience. Poor reviews in the Play Store back this up.

Thx. I sorted gf gift who is 25

    • winning

    • +10

Good thing you said she was 25.

  • It is called a pedometer, and is $2 or $3 on eBay.

    • lol

      • OK, this one has bluetooth. Not sure how great the app is, aside from advertising a tooth-rotting drink.

Kids are naturally active, and don't need a pedometer to remind them to run around.

  • Sorry, we are down for maintenance. We will be back online shortly — HN website

    • I've run into a similar problem when trying to refine searches on the HN website -they appear to have an unspecified limit, and once reached you'll see that page every time.

Try using a different browser and see if that helps.

  • +2

These were the ones that came with Milo cans last year. Seems like HN got a factory scoop and tried to flog them and ended up not.

    https://app.milo.com.au/champ-squad

Was at Woolies from memory. And yes more pedometer than anything else.

  • +5

Wait…so this isn't endorsed by Milo Yiannopoulos?

    • -2

how old (young) are you where the first thing you think of when you hear "milo" is the gay greek dude and not the drink

      • +1

Milo Yiannopoulos is more topical these days. I haven't drunk Milo for over 20 years, so it's not even on my radar. BTW, it was only a joke comment.

        • i hear ya

  • This are from the leftover Milo tin card things that weren't redeemed.

  • -1

Looks better than the Xiaomi version, cheaper to.

  • +3

Milo are renowned for their tech gadgets and chocolate granules in milk

  • Come with free Milo?

  • +3

Bought these last time when it was $10.

    They are bad.

App wants a lot of my personal details and is pretty clumsy. And it's no where near fitbit. It's just a pedometer.

I would not have bought it if I knew beforehand it was this bad.

  • +1

Your child probably believes Milo is health food. Do you?

  • +1

Are there any Loser versions of this band?

    • +5

Don't be so down on yourself, we are all winners.

  • Postage kills it.

  • This is not comparable to a fitbit.

    • +6

      Nor is the price 😂🤣

    • For a kid, this is better than Fitbit because of the app.

Thanks for this post - my son lost his while on holidays and I was hesitant to pay $29.95 (which is what we paid for the last one) again for something they falls off somewhat easily.

Just on a side note - These are really OLD stock (as in when we bought the last one before Xmas they were old stock), the first one we purchased refused to charge and on return and exchange we were told they had been sitting around for a long time so the battery was probably DOA, my advice would be to take a USB Battery charger with you and pop the device out of the box immediately after you collect it and power it up to make sure its going to work.

    • Good thinking there, at least you can return it straight away then if found to be having a dead battery issue

  • How long will they be happy to wait for me to collect item ?
There is none at my closest store. However stock is available at location where I might go for country drive to, in about 1 month from now.

  • showing as $38 in the cart, but the price on the site still showing as $8..wth??

  • it shows $8 but when I add it to cart it shows $39?

or is it just in store?

  • Price is updated to $39 now. That's it, gone the bargain!

  • I think it's gone now :(

  • Darn it!

  • Back to $39 online.
