  • Hey Ozbargainers :)

Any Questions at all please feel free to reply to this comment thread as I get notified immediately if someone replies to the same comment thread.

Looking forward to hearing from your responses!

    • Do you have anything for Canada and USA?

      • Hi there :)

Yes we do and we will be realeasing them next week :)

        • Usa, Canada, and Europe would be even better 😁

    • Going to Bali in a month or so, is that covered under indonesia? Thanks.

      • Hi there

Yes I have personally used this SIM card in Jakarta and Bali and they have worked completely fine, you will however only get 3.5G or H+ speeds just for your reference :)

    • Is there anything that might be suitable for on a cruise?
Looking to go from Australia to Hawaii via Fiji, Vanuatu and Bora Bora

      Thanks

    • Hmmm, anything for Korea, Malaysia, Singapore?

      • StarHub's good for those countries.

I might add that if Malaysia is either at the start or end of your trip (i.e. when you don't have credit anyway, or when you may have run out of your credit from Korea/Singapore) then you should just get a local SIM. A local SIM in Malaysia is generally cheaper than StarHub's Happy Roam.

        • Sounds like good advice :) Happy Roam probably won't be a good option for me as Singapore is my last destination though.

Anything good available for Korea only?

  • Any chance to get the recharge voucher on sale too? Or should I just get 2x this deal? If yes, I see it has valid period of 3 months - can I get it emailed to me a a code, as in can I purchase it while overseas not in UK?

    • Hi stickman,

You can inbox me and I can provide you with a recharge voucher. Or you can simply purchase two if your not fussed with changing SIM cards over.

      • Ah, thanks, but my trip will be >3mo from today so I just purchased two. Great deal!

        • No problem thank you so much stickman!

  • Even if I'm planning a trip in mid-2019, could I still get one of these now?

    • Yes of course they have no shelf life.

  • Can you confirm the activation procedure please? Website makes it sound like: swap SIM, enable data roaming, off you go.

    • +1

Our preloaded AIO20 SIM just is plug and play, when you insert the SIM card, you will be instructed to either reset your phone or it will automatically connect.

Hope that clears up the confusion

      • +2

don't you mean restart your phone?

  • Anything for Japan?

    • Hi kitty

      Unfortunately not yet :(

  • It's like the European/South American version of Starhub haha

edit: Just had a bit of a closer look. 12GB for $39 is actually a better rate than the 30-day StarHub Happy Roam data plans, so this is definitely a very reasonable alternative to StarHub. StarHub seems like it offers better short-term data options, whereas this is better for longer trips.

    • Hi illumination :)

Yes that's correct, the three SIM card has better value compared to the starhub SIM card, also , it requires no registration :)

  • Can be used in China?

    • You tell me. Is China listed as one of the countries?

Unless you want to start counting Hong Kong, but that's a whole other discussion which I'm not willing to go into LOL

    • Hi there

Unfortunately China is currently impenatrable for international carriers. Although we will be selling Chinese travel Sims in the next month :)

      • Hey that's a good news as I am travelling to China in May and need something to beat the great firewall. Either buy VPN or buy your sim (provided it's working on Gmail and Google map etc).

  • 12GB of 3.5G & 4G LTE data (for use in 71 Destinations) - 12GB of Data is offered for Europe now - (previously was capped at 9GB)

What does this mean? The fact that Europe is called out as "12GB" makes it sound like it might exclude other regions, but you say it is for use in 71 destinations?

Just to be clear, that's 71 countries right? (i.e. destination sounds more like city - country implies it can be used in any city within that country!)

    • +2

      Hi illumination,

Yes to clarify it works in 71 countries :)

FYI: there is no more roaming cap for these SIM cards, you will get 12Gb of data to play with in all these countries.

Hope that clears up the confusion !

  • Is there a smaller recharge option? We are there for 5 weeks, so it will expire just before we're ready to leave.

  • How long is this deal valid for?

    • It's valid until the end of this week Friday :)

  • Hi Amanda - did you happen to find out about the Adult Lock which 3 put on these sim cards? For those unaware, you cannot get the adult content filter unlocked without holding a UK issued credit card.

    • Hi power 71

You could use a VPN if you wanted to immediately bypass the adult filtering content ?

Other than that, I am quite sure that you don't need a three UK credit card to remove the restriction all you would need is to contact three directly if my memory serves me right !

      • Tried it last time I bought one, To remove adult restriction requires a 99p payment via website and only accepts UK issued credit card. Presented in person at a UK located 3 store with Passport as proof of age, and staff instore again could not release 'Adult content' block without a UK issued credit card. So, anyone wanting to Tinder or similar is unable to.

        • WTF. Ridic

    • +1

Try adding an APN in your network settings called "3internet", should bypass Three's blocking (including torrent sites too).

      • Thanks for the tip Vic :)

      • @victorwilson have you tried this? I think I've heard of something like this before, but never a confirmation in the last few years. Also do you happen to know if this APN change it will allow you to tether?

        • +1

Yes I can confirm it worked for me when I was in the UK last month, and whilst roaming in Europe. Also I was able to tether with no problems, but make sure you're only tethering to another mobile device since they can apparently tell which device you're using. The tethering worked everywhere I went, except for Italy for some reason.

        • @victorwilson: Thanks bud!

        • @victorwilson: Actually, sorry for all the questions, are you able to comment on the speed/connection while not in UK? Was it 3G or 4G?

        • @Spectator: Three has a reputation for having pretty bad network coverage within the UK itself, I don't think I've ever had a 4G connection outside the UK.

It's more than likely it'll be a HSPA+ connection, which is definitely usable and fast enough for most things, but sometimes I could only get a slow 2G EDGE connection.

        • @victorwilson: ewwwwww I might have to give this a skip then

        • @Spectator: I'd still say it's the best SIM card for travelling around Europe. I think I might've exaggerated the coverage problem - it definitely worked fine for me in my travels.

A lot of carriers allow free roaming in Europe due to EU regulations, but exclude non-EU countries such as Norway or Switzerland, but Three covers them. Also it covers roaming in Singapore (useful if you transit there on your way back), and in Australia (so you don't need to do the awkward SIM switch after landing).

  • If ordered today, what date could I expect to receive in mail to Brisbane suburbs? I leave for overseas on 19 March.

    • +1

We have 80 left in stock so we will be shipping out orders tonight !

      • Thanks Amanda

  • +1

So essentially you/your company is offering people these? - https://www.three.co.uk/Store/SIM/Pay_As_You_Go

    • OP - do you have the 30GB sims available too?

      • Unfortunately we don't but I can ask management to organise you one if you absolutely need it.

    • Yeah…I love it how your question didn't get answered…

We got ripped off on one of these with another company, 20gbp to aud is 35 bux, so with postage etc this is actually a reasonable deal…

  • Nvm just saw the above post

  • Hi there just a few questions:
    1. Can you hotspot with this sim?
    2. Can I recharge with an aussie credit card
    3. How many months can I use the sim for around Europe? Someone told me there was a 4 month limit if you use it outside the UK?

    • +2

This page seems to partially answer some of your questions

Can you hotspot with this sim?

The page says "You can’t use your phone as a personal hotspot (tethering) while you’re abroad if you’re on an Essential Plan." I don't know which one the Essential Plan is but I don't think this is it?

Can I recharge with an aussie credit card

Don't see why you can't but I'm only using common sense here

How many months can I use the sim for around Europe? Someone told me there was a 4 month limit if you use it outside the UK?

"Feel At Home is designed for UK residents who are on holiday or business trips abroad. It is not designed for extended periods abroad–see ‘usage restrictions’ in our support pages."

Maybe have a look at that usage restrictions thing that they refer to. I would look too because I'm curious but I'm half working right now so don't quite have time (yet I have time to half answer your questions lol)

    • +2

Can you hotspot with this sim?
      No

Can I recharge with an aussie credit card?
Yes - Buy recharges before you leave. (NOTE: cheaper to just buy multiple sims anyway! - use VOiP services)
No - You will have to be in the UK to recharge while O/S " You will not be able to recharge anywhere else unless you are visiting the UK and go to a ThreeUK store. Online top up also does not work as ThreeUK only take UK credit cards

How many months can I use the sim for around Europe? Someone told me there was a 4 month limit if you use it outside the UK?
If i remember, this is correct, but you can purchase multiple sims to keep using.

These Sims are fantastic. Used them twice now, and it beats buying crap loads of different sims for each area you visit.

      • +1

        Thanks for the feedback :)

  • Do these need to be activated in the UK first? The 3 website suggests they do…

    • +1

No. that is for the other sim plan that allows you to tether (internet with legs i think its called)- they have to be activated in the UK. These activate as soon as you pop them into your phone and turn it on

    • +1

      Hi power71

No they do not need to be activated in the UK at all, they are simply plug and go. :)

  • Awesome - thanks for clarifying Kab. Internet with legs - hehehe

  • Hi Amanda, are calls from Spain & Portugal to Singapore and Australia included? Thanks.

    • Hi Adrian

Unfortunately, calls and texts are specifically only for UK numbers and European numbers.

  • +1

I use this company for recharges.
    http://kwikpay.com/
    IOS and Android Apps

    • Interesting. What exactly is this? i.e. How is this different to recharging directly?

    • +1

I used Kwikpay and mobiletopup for a trip last year (looking after 9 sims for group of staff). Both were pretty flaky and time consuming with multiple transaction failures. I used both the iOS apps and the websites and both gave me a fair amount of pain. This was for international call add ons. I will be exploring using a friends British bank account / CC next time as it was a PITA. That said, the sims themselves rocked and were pretty reliable over the three weeks through Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Germany. Shame there is no tethering but if you are happy to Viber/ VOIP/ Facetime they are awesome. Soeasytravel were great to deal with too.

  • +1

I used this over the European trip in Dec 17. Cheap and good coverage with quite a few countries included, but extremely slow internet connection…

    • Hi zed!

Could you please let me know what countries caused the slower internet connections?

Most of our customers travelling through Europe have not reported any service interupptions or slow internet whilst travelling in Europe.

      Happy to hear your feedback

      • Hi, there aren't any service interruptions but it was slow the whole trip (London, Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Singapore & Vietnam).

        The average speedtest was 5Mbps/2Mbps.

Maybe it was just me too used to 4G speed in Sydney…

  • OP…Do you have any SIM for Russia…going there in April - May this year…Thanks

    • Hi robjane,

I can organise Russian SIM cards for next month and keep you updated. Could you please email me directly?

      [email protected]

      • Also interested for the world cup. I suspect it will be cheaper to buy local though

  • +1

Great Sim, got one last sale and it worked perfect in Iceland , London and Paris

    • So happy to hear :)

  • +2

So it doesn't work in the UK or Ireland itself???
Cant see it on the Three link.

    If not, any else suitable?

    • Interested to know the answer to this too.

    • Hi there

It does in fact work in the UK and Ireland.

Keep in mind this is a UK SIM which allows free data roaming to 71 destinations.

  • I am going to Dubai, UAE next month, anything for Dubai ?

  • Can't you bump to 40% off like last time?
    Even if data dropped…. Down.
Can you get a longer expiry offer ie. 6-8 weeks?

So what happens if you arrive in Europe and put in phone to activate on that day and it does not work? Is there a contact to assist?

So can be activated in 3-4 months from this deal?

  • +1

"- bundle has a validity of 1 month"
Does this means I have to activate the card in the next month or so?
Looking for something that will work for an end of May NZ holiday sim. Will this work then?

    • Hi there

It means as soon as you activate the SIM card (insert inside your phone)

The bundle activates immediately and from the date of activation you have 30 days to use your allowance :)

Hope that clears up the confusion.

  • Is there an app available to download to check usage on calls?

  • Hi

    Some questions
    1. Where will it get delivered and how much time does it take. I live in Australia and travelling to greece on 23 march. Will it get delivered by then in Australia.
    2. Will i activate the sim in Australia or greece to be used in greece ir does not matter it will work irrespective
    3. How is the network in athens santorini and meteora region
    4. What if i have issues whom should i contact

  • So Just got two on separate transactions but their page still says 29 left even though I purchased two?

Would a recharge have been cheaper?

  • Ordered one on Monday, but still no notification that sim has been sent yet.

I was relying on the 'delivery within 1 to 4 business days'….flying out on Tuesday :(

    • Hi there ezza8

Could you please provide me with your order number so I can look into this immediately.

      [email protected]

      • I emailed you last night. Order 3219

        • Going to have a look right now im terribly sorry about that.

        • Hi ezza

Could you please check your email I have responded.

Regarding your order it was fulfilled the following morning at 10:32am of the date of this sale so you should receive the SIM card in the mail by today afternoon please double check your mailbox in the evening to confirm.

          Thank you so much!

        • All good! Just received today :)

  • Haven't received mine either - Order 3274.

  • I realise the discount has finished, but still interested in these sims. Wife and I are travelling to Italy via Hong Kong in November with another couple. We were thinking of getting two sims, one for each couple.

Would these sims allow us to voice call or text each other while in HK or Italy? That would allow each couple to do their own thing, but then organise time/places to meet and do meals/activities together. I assume we would have to use the mobile phone number that includes the UK prefix. I know you could use WhatsApp or some other VOIP app, but sometimes using the real phone network is easier, or more reliable in poor reception areas.

I assume that as Australia is one of the countries listed, we could activate the two sims the day before we leave and check that they are all working.

Will these sims allow use of VPN services on the phone? Not for any nefarious purpose, but rather as security when using insecure WiFi services like hotel rooms or lobbies. I like to run the VPN all the time on my phone and then I don't have to think or be aware if I'm using mobile data or public WiFi.
