  • For everyone on desktop - we rolled out our new look for the flight search results. What do you think? Any bugs please let me know.

    • +2

When you click on flight details, indidual legs no longer show departure times which is a pain when working out connections.
      Cheers.

      • +1

Oh - you're right. Definitely a bug. We'll fix that asap.

      • Hi Bigspike - The departure/arrival times are now showing. Thanks for reporting it.

    • Looks a lot better! But when I do a multi-city search and want to modify my dates, running the search again with either the "Modify Search" or "change dates" button now gives me results for a One-Way trip with only the first destination.

Also a little feature request: any chance in the future we could filter out some of the results based on travel agent/booking sites - in that left sidebar? Thanks!

      • Hi Jordanface,

Hmm - I cannot replicate that error. What browser (eg Chrome/Firefox) and Operating System (eg Windows 10) are you using?

Good idea about restricting the suppliers. I will pass that on to the dev team.

    • you don't have to have a stopover in Fiji (your terminology is wrong), but you might have to change planes, except SYD/LAX or SYD/SFO, it might be the same new A330.

From Brisbane, you might have 4-5 hours, so make sure you leave the airport.

From Sydney, could be as little as 3 hours. SOme days there are 3 or more nonstop SYD/NAN flights. If you get the early one around 6.30am, you could have all day in Fiji.

From Melbourne & Adelaide, it's all day, no choice, unless you go via Sydney or Bris.

You can go across the rd. to Gateway Hotel. It's literally a 250 metre walk or they'll pick you up if it's raining.

They will give you towels, so you can have a swim.

      • for about $70 or $80 you can get a room for day use.

If you don't get a room, buy a few drinks/snacks so they'll keep doing this for people who don't want to sit around a transit lounge.

  • From my recollection I haven't heard good things about Fiji air. Anyone can comment?

    • -2

Half owned by Qantas. Airport is not airconditioned. Can make layover unpleasant in some weathers.

      • +1

A tropical airport that isn't AC'd? Uh whaaa?

      • +1

It was air conditioned when I was there last year.
There is a burger king in the airport for hungry hungry hippos

        • Must have the wrong Pacific Island then. Unless it changed since last visit about 6 / 7 years ago. Sorry about that. Maybe thinking of Tahiti. I seem to recall some of the Hawii ones without A/C, though that is over 10 years ago now.

        • @bigspike: The tahiti airport is trash with no airconditioning. only a bar on the top level. maybe thats what you're thinking of?

        • @ddrmagic: Got probed there heading to the USA with carry on only. Must have fitted some profile.

        • @bigspike: Honolulu and Hilo (and probably some others) are still open-air airports

        • @bigspike:

Hey, are you serious? I'm also a carry on only type of guy and have been told by customs it makes me look suspicious.

This is why I'm paranoid about heading to the US. I assume if anyone looks probeable it's me.

        • @peterpeterpumpkin: I guess the thinking is someone up to no good doesn't need to check a bag for the destination.

      • Stupid post. Don't put companies and people's reputations at risk by posting stuff that clearly isn't accurate. Those interested in this deal should ignore the comment by bigspike and by XioamiGuy and read my comment below for a better idea.

      • no is air conditioned + airport has gone thru a massive revamp recently. Qantas owns approx. 46%, Air NZ owns approx. 4% & Fiji govt owns 50.1% cos they have to.

    • Their planes are certainly outdated by modern standards.

Three screens per side for movies, no screens on the back of the seat heads.

I also had a plane that only one half had aircon and the other half didn't.

Taxiing in Fiji is extremely quick. Shouldn't be an issue regarding time etc.

    • I didn't like their food at all but IIRC their Fiji to LAX flights are on new planes?

    • Jetstar domestic level comfort on the seats

    • +2

Man at these prices I'd fly CityRail

    • They confiscated my cans of Fiji Bitter from the PP lounge on the walkway to the plane in Nadi last November. First airline I’ve seen to check for liquids after the gate.

      • That's actually Australia's fault. Our Govt enforces gate checks from some nations.

        • Hmm thanks Australia, but if I was running my country we’d all be handed extra tins as you board and sometimes you’d get your tin from old mate Bob himself. And if you’re lucky Elle would be flying with you!

    • superb airline, MUCH better than Qantas, but that wouldn't be hard. Qantas aren't that special, just expensive.

  • No love for Perth I see

  • WOW, $799 was the target price, now just WOW

  • +1

I am planning to go end of Sep.

Wil be there any promotions (from other airline)?

    • Oh, I see you wish to travel just before or during a school holiday period… NO PROMOTIONS FOR YOU!

Seriously though, you'd be pretty lucky to find any fares sub $1k at this time so grab them if you see them!

    • end of sept & you run into school holidays. Airlines never ever give away seats in school holidays.

Found Air NZ for same route and day as the first MEL to LAX (24/Apr 08/May $767) for $976. Worth the extra imo.

  • PayPal now offer $500 travel cover if you pay with them.

If you're a traveller you might have a credit card that offers some insurance. Maybe you could use the Credit Card via PayPal?

Wow, there's a real gold mine of misinformation on here. As a regular user of Fiji Airways, formerly Air Pacific here are the real facts.

    1. Their flights are often code share with Qantas.
    2. Nadi Airport has been air con'd for 20 years, at least in the departure lounge. The whole terminal has just undergone a major reno and is quite modern now.
    3. Staff on FA are friendly and helpful.
    4. Flights to Nadi ex Sydney and Melbourne take 4-5 hours and use their 737s which are a bit dated by those accustomed to long haul flying.
BUT the flights to the U.S use the modern Airbus 330 with all it's features.
    5. I've always found the food on FA quite decent. I've had better airline food, I've had worse. Expect things like chicken curry and rice or fish with noodles. Only the fussiest of eaters would go hungry.
    6. Free alcohol.

What is there not to like really ? At sub $800 I'd jump on the price if I was wanting to go to America.

    • Some of the SYD-NAN and NAN-SYD flights are on the newer A330s. Not sure if any of these sale fares cover those flights though.

Try to avoid the 737s. They aren't nice at all.

    • I just flew MEL > LAX over Christmas and NY with Fiji Airways and the crap about no AC, no screens in the back of seats, jetstar domestic level comfort is all bs.

As said above, NAN departures has just been refurbished and is more modern with AC. The US legs use the A330 which have the more modern in-flight entertainment while some AUS legs have personal in-flight (my MEL > NAN) but others don't (my NAN > MEL). Quality about the same as my MEL > SYD domestic flight 737-800.

From my experiences, they are more comfortable than Air China but don't be expecting AAA airline experiences. At around $800 these are really a steal.

      • recently flew Fiji air on $800 deal. FLight Fiji/LAX had about 100 empty seats, but coming back 10 days later was completely full.

Would much rather fly FIji air, than qantas or any American airline or Air NZ.

    • point 4 above not strictly correct. There are up to 3 SYD/NAN flights a day & even 4 sometimes in xmas holidays.

One flight a day is usually a new A332 or A333, which sometimes continues onto LAX or SFO.

ALso, Brisbane is getting an A332 at least once a week & Mel often has an A332. Adl is all 737's apparently, but Fiji air has ordered 1/2 dozen or so, brand new 737 max, due to arrive next year I think.

The other huge benefit of flying Fiji air, is you can upgrade from any fare to business class via their bula bids.

Looked & minimum bid Fiji/LAX nonstop or FIji/San Fran nonstop was $865. No guarantee of upgrade, but if you don't get it, you don't pay anything.

Heard that they also might be selling empty seats for some yet to be determined amount, so you could buy 2, 3 or 4 seats just for yourself, just like a poor mans bus class.

  • Beware of the dodgy customs worker. They will try to take your check on luggage goods. Would never fly Fiji again.

  • adelaide to LA?

    • +1

check their website. I think all the Adl/Fiji flights are red eyes, so you have to spend all day in FIji, but a better idea is to spend 1 or 2 nights. Same on way home I think, but if don't want to do that, you can go via Sydney, just have to get to Sydney, but probably easy using virgin or qantas ff pts.
