I asked at the Telstra Store Greensborough today and they had no stock of either Pixel 2 or XL and said Google arent allowing any back orders either. Seems weird. Why wouldnt they want you to order they're product?
Went to the JB and after waiting 15 minutes with no staff anywhere in sight I had to leave to make another appointment. JB you've done it again!

I wouldn't take much notice of tesltra staff in general. Almost every single one of them has a different explanation. At least when you can find JB staff they will look through their store network inventory and ring around. Near me, Macquarie, Castle Hill and Hornsby stores had stock replenished yesterday. Good luck

      • OK, thanks. Will keep searching.

      • +1

My Local JB has some in stock that they didn't before, got one on hold but just waiting for my new Optus sim to activate so I can port it over.

        • Well Telstra online chat just told me they are out of stock and that the handset is no longer for sale. It's permanent.
That's what they seriously just said. Thats it. Pixel 2 XL is dead, over, no more.
          I'm struggling to believe that.
Will call around some JB's tomorrow.

        • @timbertron: They offered an iPhone 7 or 7 plus 128GB instead.

        • @timbertron: did they say they have 7 plus 128gb stock? been on chat 5 times in 2 days and all said no more stock

        • @timbertron:
You can look at stock on their website to save you some time.

  • I asked about upgrading this deal to a 128GB model, they said they are unable to alter the deal.

I'm not sure I'll be okay with only 64GB, as my current phone I have 64GB internal storage and 200GB microSD card, and they are above 50% capacity, meaning i'm using above 100GB already.

Really hoped they would just use the same deal but add the difference for the 128GB model.

    • What is taking up space on your old phone?

      • -2

I have kept a local copy of every photo and video i've taken since the early smartphone days.
It's awesome to refer to old photos without use of cloud storage.

Some movies, and lots of music. Some apps are quite large, for example hearthstone.

I still don't have spotify, I have a large weeb music library.

    • If you're like me, you definitely won't be OK with 64GB. I have a 64GB Pixel 2 and after almost three months of ownership, have less than 10GB of space left (most of the space is taken up by photos I've taken with my phone since 2011)

      • Isn't the whole idea that you get free google photos full res upload until 2021

I plan to just move my photos onto the computer every so often, so i keep the actual files AND they are still viewable on the phone via google photos

        • I prefer to have a copy on my phone rather than leaving it all in the cloud; Google Photos has wiped out some of my photos before (luckily I double upload them with Dropbox as well)

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

That's why i plan to keep a local copy on my computer as well

        • @jjsnacks: Yeah but I want to view them on my phone …

        • @kerfuffle:

You still view them via Google photos on your phone, they just download from the cloud rather than being stored locally

        • @jjsnacks: That would mean using my data up to look at photos. Plus as I mentioned earlier, I don't entirely trust Google Photos as they wiped out a lot of photos at one time (luckily I had them backed up on Dropbox).

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

          It's not ideal

I'd much prefer a microSD slot

        • @jjsnacks: Yeah, same here.

      • That's weird… I transferred about 20GB of photos from my iPhone and was able to upload it as original sizing to Google Photos and was able to free up my phone storage.

  • Anyone's order status changed from back-order?? Only Telstra and JB are selling Pixel's in Aus. Why are they not getting stock??

    • no, mines still backorder. I'm assuming it will be a few weeks or more

      • I am wondering how many orders are pending with Telsta :-|

        • I just got an email from Telstra saying my order is in, and "let's make everything official".
But no tracking number, just contract info…

        • @gturner: Online status changed as well from backorder?

        • no, still on back order when I check online :(

        • Still great news. It's moving for you :)

        • Yea, happy for you. Mine is still back order.

          When did you order yours?

        • yeah, surprised at the email, but not sure it means much. Just that it has processed, still not appointed stock.
          I ordered on 28th Feb

        • @gturner: Got the same email. Confused as, mine says backorder too. Got an email last week saying it was meant to arrive last Friday too but never arrived and then got that "lets make everything offical" email.

        • @vstratosphere: When did you get "lets make everything offical" email?

        • @gg55: yesterday at about 6.

    • Also got that email! Seems like everyone's going to get their phones at the same time from one bulk shipment. But surely it doesn't take that long to order for Telstra…

      • Even I got this email today morning. Just tells about what you get, not when :)

      • If you google for this email from Telstra, it seems pretty random, it gives no indication on when the stock will be allocated.

        • Status changed to stock allocated!!

        • Picked up two at my local JB so just cancelled my online order

    • Ok some news - I just check the online status, and I have stock allocated!
this is the good news - Stock Allocated 14 Mar 18 3:26 PM

So guessing everyone who go the "lets make everything offical" email will get this about 24 hours later

      • Just received tracking number and updated data for my account.
        Others?

        • Same! Overnight service level. What is that?

        • @jdreamer: That means you will receive it tomorrow :)

        • When did u guys ordered. Mine still not changed ordered on 7th Mar.

        • @gg55: 4 March! :)

        • @gg55:
          I ordered on 28th Feb

        • I am in queue then :)

        • @jdreamer: What color did you ordered and is it XL ?

        • got mine too!

        • @gg55: Ordered Just Black XL. It didn’t arrive today… still in transit…

        • @jdreamer:
Mine came today, with the headphones and google home mini

        • @jdreamer: Mine shipped finally :)

        • @gturner: mine has finally arrived at the depot for processing. Hopefully soon..

      • XL, or standard Pixel?

  • So I signed up to this plan at jb hi fi and they found I previously had an account to with telstra but no active contract. Wasn't a problem really but I wasn't able to take the phone home today as the system crashed and couldn't confirm the completed order. Said I can come get it tomorrow after it clears in the morning.

I just realised they didn't take any of my payment details… Do you normally enter payment details after you get your first bill?

    • Wasn't a problem really but I wasn't able to take the phone home today as the system crashed and couldn't confirm the completed order.

Did the order eventually go through? I'm guessing you are porting over and it didn't happen on the same day?

Hopefully your order didn't end up at the Control Group… there's no coming back from that.

I just realised they didn't take any of my payment details… Do you normally enter payment details after you get your first bill?

    Yes

  • Anyone who ordered a standard Pixel 2 (non XL) received theirs yet?

  • -4

I'm liking the sound of people getting offered iPhones in place of the XL. (I'm in the ecosystem, and I'm happy enough staying there…)

Hi for those that haven't had any luck finding stock of the Pixel 2XL - I walked into JB Hifi at Castle Hill home hub today and picked up this deal with the home mini and headphones included. When he opened the cupboard to get it out, I saw at least 5 more packs of the pixel 2XL in stock - and there was a large sign saying: "for contract buyers only"!

  • Used online chat, on the 13th I recontracted from being on the BYO jbhifi deal for 6 months. Arrived today 15th. Got the 5GB bonus automatically applied for having two services (cable+mobile). First try.

  • +1

So I went in on Saturday to my local jbhifi they had 1 in stock, however my number had not left the Telstra system when I ported so couldn't go ahead that day.
Now today I go into the same store and they had received more stock so I was hyped for the phone. Then they had to do a credit check because this is my first phone on a plan (always been outright phone + prepaid).
It comes back approved and with a value of 500, not sure what that means. Anyway he had to check if that was enough for the phone and if I paid $300 upfront would that work to cover it. Shortly gets back to me and says no that it needs to be more like 1500 to cover the phone. So couldn't finish it.

Details he asked me were; do you have kids? (NO) how long at current address (15yrs) work (NO) on centrelink at the moment last worked 1 year ago (stopped to finish my 2 years masters at uni)

Is there anything I could do to get this to go ahead?
When I just got home I thought about maybe paying more then $300 upfront to make up the 1500 figure, effectively giving me credit for the 24 months of the plan.

    • Try another store, maybe say you work in education at the uni they don't actually ask what you get paid and they don't seem to ask for any pay slips, For what it's worth, my wife who hasn't worked for 10yrs (4 kids) was approved for 1.

      • Oh they don't ask what you get paid or anything? So I could go to another store and be like yeah I work and that's as far as it goes?

        • They didn't for me, I think the questions were rent or own, how long have you been there, kids, what do you do for work, how long have you been doing it. What I told them and what they put in as my work was also two quite different things, think JB staff are more interested in hitting targets.

    • So I went in to another Jb today. Told them I had been pre-paid and credit check might be needed, they were like nah it should be fine we can use your existing account and should be all good. Progressing a long slowly, then I don't remember which sales person brings up porting but they turned me away saying it needs to be 3 months since you weren't with them. So jb a bust again, might try the telstra store tomorrow.

      • I'm having completely no luck. went into a telstra store and they told me
        1. It ended last week
        2. Oh you mean this plan? Yeah its for staff only, are you staff?

    • UPDATE.
So on Saturday afternoon I tried live chat, I thought the process was smooth and no hiccups my chat guy said the order was submitted successfully. Gave hime a 10/10 rating and praised him, the chat was good.

Monday comes and I receive a text saying to contact live chat to verify some details. So I contact them and they have no idea, tell me to go in store. So today I go in store and they can't see an order for me only that an account has been created. So much for my 10/10 rating on live chat, guy stuffed up. Ended up doing instore and walking out with a black pixel 2 xl. (Different store to where I was turned away)

Just managed to buy a new Optus sim, port that over, rang Telstra on 132200 and said I wanted to consolidate my new Telstra service with my existing boost prepaid service, ie I wanted to keep the new service with but with my number from boost and they are doing it as we speak.

    • I have about a month left on my plan and am considering doing something like this so I can secure the deal (and sell the phone).

If anybody has experience is it possible to swap numbers on two active contracted phones? And then I will just cancel my current contract once the month finishes.

      • Yeah, any more info on how to do this?

I was on chat and asked if I could do that and they said no…

Is there a special way of wording it or something?

  • I was able to get the pixel 2 XL at JB the Galleries in Sydney CBD. They got more stock today. Both Telstra George St and Market St didn't have it in sock.

  • Mine come today after ordered online on 2nd March and got 5GB extra as well. Literally just ask for it and they say yes, no question asked. Also online rep said no mini nor headphone with the deal but come with both in a bundle anyway.

    • I ordered mine online yesterday (Pixel 2 XL black) from Telstra chat and they said it would be 2-3 weeks. Got an email this afternoon with a Startrack number saying it's on its way.

The customer service online is very nice and helpful but I just don't think they have much access or something to Telstras systems. It's strange.

  • Just picked one up from JB Parramatta!
Bloke did half price on the case too. Probs still not worth but I was excited haha.
    Cheers OP!

  • Picked up mine from JB, no cases available! But I didn't expect to get a Google Home Mini bundle with it, nice surprise.

Before anyone returns their mobile because of colour accuracy (like I was thinking of doing) I highly recommend turning off vivid mode as soon as possible to natural. Vivid mode made the blue more strong and everything else just looked awful, probably because of the cheap OLED that's simply not capable at making strong yet accurate vibrant colours.

    • can you return it to the actual google and get the new model?

  • Picked up a Google Pixel 2 XL from JB Hifi strand Arcade today around lunchtime. They only had black in stock. Young guy was super helpful and I was in and out and ported over in about 30mins. Also came bundled with the Google Home Mini and Aiaia earphones.

  • +1

Just received mine in the post from Telstra. Came with google home mini and headphones! Very impressed :)

    • congrats! hows the screen? did u get the new version?

      • I haven't turned it on yet but I'll be sure to get back to you with that! How do i check the version to see if it's a new one??

  • What is everyones experience porting away and porting back for this deal? Had both local Telstra and JB Hi Fi give me a no can do on the deal (BYO Mx out of contract) but at least the JB Hi Fi guy gave it a try.

    • I'm in the exact same position.

I've chatted to several people online and been to JB and Telstra all of said no they can't do the deal and the number has to be 3 months out of Telstra.

    • +1

I managed to upgrade both my plans from BYO, i was still contracted. Mind you i was pretty persistent, 2x store visits and about 8 or more online chats. Was someone from the billing team that actually put my order through. Got the extra 5GB on both also. I did get told the same thing, that they are cracking down on porting out and back in, although i didnt want to do that as i would have paid $145 early termination fee per service lol

      • Did you end up getting it through chat or in store?

        • Online chat. In store just told me they couldnt do it

        • @danb: They must be getting more lenient on it. Just successfully submitted my order after being told no about 10 times when the deal was first posted.

        • @kevsta89: Great result, lucky bugger! I had similar fails as my contract ended early April and Telstra were more concerned about getting a new customer over retaining a loyal one of 7 years. So I cracked the s**** a couple of weeks ago and ported over to Virgin. I wonder if I'll be able to port in now to get the offer…? Anyone know how long the wait to port in is? I've heard 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days….

    • Well, I got this deal last night.
Ported to Optus prepaid last Saturday
Got on Telstra chat and told them my account is still showing a service Wednesday night.
Went to JB Canberra Centre (shout out to Keirnan who is an absolute gun) and had no issues porting back.

The key as someone else pointed out is to jump on chat after porting and get them to finalise the close of service instead of waiting for the billing system to do it after a 30 day cycle.

Now to try for the extra 5gb

      • Update

Telstra chat enabled the extra 5GB data for both my wife's and my account on first contact.

This is one hell of a deal!

      • Jb in fyshwick saying you have to have been with non-telstra Provider for 6 months to get the deal. Wtf? Anyone else encounter that?

  • +2

Just signed up today at penrith jb and got the deal. Ported from boost to Optus 2 days ago. No issues getting back on to Telstra.

They just received fresh stock (3 pandas and 4 black I believe).

I went straight on to live chat when I got home to be told no by 2 reps and a "you'll receive your bonus data sms automatically soon".

Jan 3 build date on mine and screen seems good so far, slight blue but not too noticeable

  • Picked one up from JB hi fi broadway today. Also got on online chat for extra 5gb data

    • +1

Unrelated to this deal, but I tried getting the 5GB (I jumped on this deal when it was on in December) and was told I couldn't get the 5GB as I hadn't been with Telstra for five years yet :(

      • +2

Keep trying. You will be able to get the extra data.

    • Do you just need to request it via online chat or do you have to meet some requirements?
