  • Made an order through chat last Wednesday, and it got updated to cancelled today with no information. Talked to the rep and they said it was because I ported my number, but that's not true, I've been with vaya since 2013. Gonna try the local store/JB tomorrow.

  • Just ordered an Optus prepaid SIM so I can port out.
Got told twice by online chat that once ported out I can port back in immediately and qualify (and I have the transcripts), though the guy at JB said 30 days…
Will see how I go. If I can't get back in I may try Optus for a while….
Though may mean I get a newer build if I wait until April.

Nearest stock at JB (from Sydney) is 3 Black up in Glendale, Newcastle. Will take about a week to come down.
Telstra Sydney stores - take about a week to be restocked.
Telstra warehouse - take about a week to arrive.
Reserved stock at Telstra Lake Haven though in Black&White, picking up tomorrow :)

Update: went there today and am very impressed by the build date - Jan 2018. Apparently as its a smaller store, they cycle through their stock faster. Also got a bonus 5GB and if I get a data share sim for $5/month which I was really tempted to for my cellular tablet/laptop hybrid (I signed up on their business plan) he'll chuck another 5GB on top of that. Got the Google Home Mini + Earphones together as part of the standard deal.

  • Great deal - scored a Pixel 2 with a Google Home Mini and Aiaiai Pipe earphones at the Melbourne Discovery Centre. They were all out of the XLs but may be getting more next week.

If you are Telstra staff you can get another 25% off the deal, but you'll need to sign up at a Telstra owned store.

    Thanks OP!

I just got this deal through online chat, mentioned the 5gb bonus data, got it no dramas (i do have telstra cable home broadband tho)

    Im porting from Virgin.

    • If you ask they'll more than likely give you a $10 discount for multiple connections too. I signed up to the $49 BYO plan at JB, hopped on chat the next day and got 5GB extra and a $10 discount.

Edit: I'm with Telstra Cable too.

      • i already get $10 off for not having a home phone and they have removed the discount before for no reason til i whinged about it. I dont want to rock the boat.

    • When do we get the SIM card?

      • In store: They'll activate it and give it to you then.
Online Delivery: Presuming (got mine in store) that it'll be shipped in the package.
On back order: Same as in store once received stock.

So my new device turned up today and despite having been told by one of the reps on online chat that I wouldn't get the Home Mini…….I got the Home Mini as well as the earphones as well.

    Winner.

    Thanks Telstra.

  • Any luck with any Sydney's store?

  • Would this phone be locked to the Telstra network? I am going to Europe this year and need my phone to work over there.

    • Not locked to any network.

  • if i am on a post pay optus, should i cancel it with optus first and go to jb,or does not matter

    • I'm pretty sure Optus will issue you a final bill after you port your number at JB.

    • No,don't cancel it first. Just get JB to port your number.

    • +1

You can't port something that doesn't exist

  • Ordered on 28/2. Still waiting for my online order. Not happy……….

    • Hey mate
I'm the same. I'm an existing customer, so half expecting them to cancel the order.
Are you an existing mobile customer or new/port in?
My order details keep saying on back order.

      • Argghh that sucks! I'm a port in customer. I keep following up on chat questioning why I haven't received my order.

Yep mine says back order as well.

Fingers crossed it can come through!

      • Me too, existing order. Order still says back order. Got an automated text saying that they know i'm waiting for the phone and will let me know once shipped.

      • Mate I couldn't deal with it any longer! Cancelled online order and went to JB. Had the phone the next day.

    • Same. I was told back order can take 2-4 weeks… :/

      • ok, 2-4 weeks, killer.
wonder if that is just to cover the worst case, or if more are expected in stock sooner

      • Dam that sucks.

    • +1

Do follow up, but not on chat, call them, i ended up getting mine in store, but i did an online order on the 28th which was cancelled and was never made aware of til a good 1hr phone call a week later. During that week, i got ETA's on chat, but over the phone was a different story.

      • +1

Just spoke on the phone, said the order has been processed and simply waiting for stock.
Wants me to call back on Monday of I haven't had an update.

      • +1

        Thanks for the advice.

  • just come out of jb. with the xl, mini and headphone. any where i can check manufacture date? as aware of the blue screen issue. thought newer date might have better chance to be a normal handset.

    • Google "LG imei check"

      • tried, but can not see any date or other info

        • That's why you need to find an LG one…

        • @John Kimble: looks like mine is nov 29 2017 and it has blue tint. guess i can go to any jbhifi ge t a exchange? what you guys say?

        • +2

          @ce5himm:

This blue tint thing is a little bit out of control.

If it was a manufacturer date of Feb and had the blue tint would you still want to take it back?

My guess is you'd assume it was a 'better version of blue' because it's a new build and would be acceptable.

What is the use case of people turning their phones to an angle the blue distorts what they're viewing?

        • @ce5himm: The blue tint isn't that bad. Why are you looking at your phone from off centre anyway?

        • when i am on white background, and just little tint, colour goes blue. on my s7, i can see those blue almost at 160 degree. i can notice it stright after turn on the phone. like i said, i am not that hard to get use to it. trying.

        • +1

          @ce5himm:
The blue tint has nothing to do with the manufacture date. All the screens are the same. It's just every panel is slightly different. Thats the same with all OLED screens. The blue tint is better on some, worse on others. Either way the screen in the XL is not up to Samsung standard which is a shame.

        • +1

@timbertron: a~ha. afrer about 3 days use, i already forgot the blue tint thing which is a good thing as i am keeping the phone. however, i did experience other issues like the screen scrolling issue, also i've checked online, i am not alone.i guess i will just wait and see if google push some updates to fix it. it come with 2 year warranty which is good.

  • Panda colour Pixel 2 XL Manufacture date:November 04, 2017
    slight blue tinge screen

  • +1

Thanks OP, just took it from JB at Pitt St, last one left, and checked IMEI, it was made in Jan18, hope everything is fine.thanks again.

    • mine is easy to observe the blue tint screen. going to ask for exchange.

      • Will they let you since its technically a "feature"

  • Hows the Pixel 2XL compared to say the Samsung S8 screen?

I haven't been able to hit a store to check it out.

    Anyone regret their Pixel 2XL?

    • samsung is much better than lg.

      • +3

I don't think that was the question

    • +1

Screen is cooler even in saturated mode on the Pixel 2 XL, I just took some images here vs my S8:

      https://imgur.com/a/E7zja

It does have a blue tint when on an angle, but I felt my S8 had a red tint… so I think that's general inconsistency issue with OLED. S8 does have an edge on the screen (ie brighter and more colourful), but not that much.

I am very happy going to Pixel XL 2, my S8 started to lag 8 months in (sometimes I can't even wake the phone up instantly using fingerprint sensor), heat up randomly and battery was very bad… I know factory reset or warranty process could have helped but really can't be bothered.

Pixel is much smoother and battery has been good with better camera.

  • Got mine today. Ordered via Telstra chat. Advised no home mini and received a mini and headphones. Ordered on 1 March. Panda colour. 😊

  • 3 chats tonight. No stock so can't order :-(

    • +1

just ordered black and white tonight, only stock available, just 5 minutes ago

      • Half your luck. I'll try stores this pm.

        • JB at 5.30 this afternoon - managed to track down a black P2XL from Charlestown to be transferred to my local store. Jan 2018 build. Got extra data and case thrown in. Happy days.

        • @juliank: What case was it out of interest? Want to see what others are buying/being given :)

        • @pennypincher98:

          Incipio clear case.

        • @juliank: Oh yeah not too bad. Certainly worth it for free lol.

  • +1

Feb 2018 build date for mine, blue tint but honestly it's not really an issue.

But my phone has red but not stuck pixels all over the screen, so dead sub-pixels, I've counted over 8 of them.
Quite hard to see but once i noticed one while browsing, i got to looking, grabbed an app, and found the rest on white and light gray backgrounds.

Am trying to get an exchange as i'd normally tolerate a few, but with so many, if they go fully dead down the line it'd be quite noticeable.

    • Just got back from JB, was referred to Telstra, no stock on hand so they submitted a "forward ship" which i'll pick up next week.
Was told it will be a brand new replacement and not a refurb, but i guess we'll see.

  • So I'm the world's most impatient person, I cancelled my order with Telstra (back ordered and Telstra rep told me possibly 2-4 weeks for the Pixel 2 XL to be shipped). I went to North Sydney store to see if I could get it in store instead and they said they had none in stock and to try another store. I went to JB HiFi and they had none in stock either but they were awesome and was able hold a phone for me in Rouse Hill to pick up tomorrow!

The poor guy after me wasn't as lucky and all the stores they tried to call basically hung up on them…

    • Went into the Rouse Hill store, got the Pixel 2 XL + Google Home Mini + Pipes earphone package sealed. :)

Tried twice with Manila to get the extra 5GB of data, refused, saying I needed two services. But Bangalore came through, have 20GB now

    • What exactly did you ask? I keep getting told they won't do it for me unless I have another service

      • All three times, I just said - I was told Telstra are giving loyal and new customers 5GB of data per month, can it be applied to my account ? - First two asked straight away, if I had two or more services. The third one didn't, just asked where I heard it and then said "let me check your account", then applied the 5GB.

        • I tried a week ago unsuccessfully. I tried again earlier this morning saying exactly what you said and was given bonus 5gb. No questions, just happened. Seems so random.

  • I can't work out if it would be a good deal to change. The Telstra store person told me I can port from Vodafone but it would cost me 179 to break my contract with Vodafone. Currently I'm paying voda 60 per month on this plan for 4gb per month and a nexus 6p. How do I calculate if it is worth a changer over now instead of waiting for my contract to end in September.

    • -1

      Tick tock, clock is ticking

    • Wait till September and there might be some deals on the pixel 3

  • Telstra online chat said they won't take any more orders till they receive more stock

  • Was thinking to port to Optus for coming World cup data stream free coverage but this is way better deal!
Anyone know which colour of the phone is better? I heard Black is older version and likely to get blue tint screen.

Going to try my luck around Homebush later.

  • +1

Go a black one from Bankstown

    • Jb hifi or telstra?

      • +1

JB. Best to put your name down on the waiting list. They will try to find one from other stores.

        • did you call them up first to be in the waiting list ?

        • @dna4: just walked in store.

  • I signed up a week back at my local JB but Telstra completely screwed up the order. The order was stuck, it went to their control group and eventually they ran into some kind of technical error, and had to cancel the order.

Have spent hours on the phone, and finally was put through to their escalation team today. They placed an online order for me due for delivery next Thu and a $10 discount for the inconvenience, so it works out to be $49pm… Out of all the people I've spoken with, the guy from the escalation team is probably the one person who knows what is going on, and had access to all the systems…

    Fingers crossed no more hiccups.

    • +2

      $10 discount for the inconvenience

Wow they were welcome to stuff up my order for $10 off per month! Hahaha

  • Just an update from those who ordered online ( I ordered on 28/2/18), I have spent most of today on phone to telstra via complaints line (3 seperate phone calls) and have been informed by the guy I was speaking to that they don't know when they are getting stock in and they have told me there is "at least" a 2 month wait.
The guy I was speaking to seemed to know what he was talking about.
He offered me the iphone 8 or samsung 8 instead.

Though seemingly everyone is having different experiences.

    I'm not best pleased.

  • I'm going overseas for a month in 2.5 weeks time, can i purchase this but not activate it (aka start the monthly fee) until i get back?

Plan B Coming back on 29 April, what are the chances there will be stock?

    • Judging from some of the comments regarding availability, the chances of this still being around when you get back look slim.

    • Just got one in jb hifi Broadway.

Guy called Curtis help me out to hold the stock.

    • I'm in the same boat, get back end of April. Wonder what are the odds that we can order now and it gets sent out in late April. Some seem to be reporting a 1-2 month wait for stock

  • Mine has been back ordered for a week. Called them and they didn't manage to tell me when I would get the phone. Does anyone face the same issue?

  • When I had bought my phone in store in late February, the store had already run out of stock of the Pixel 2 XL and had to order it in. When she checked the stock levels in the warehouse she had said that black was out of stock, however they still have the Panda one available. Wait according to her was a few weeks for the black model so I just went ahead and got the Panda one.

  • +2

Awesome service from JB Hurstville. Wasn’t expecting any stock available. But put my name down on the waiting list for a 2 XL and got a phone call 20 minutes later they found one in Bankstown and put a hold on it. Done the paperwork at Hurstville and picked it up from Bankstown.

  • +1

It's becoming more and more rewarding to move away from Telstra when your contract is finished and wait for a deal to port back.

    • +1

Shouldn't everyone be doing that anyway? I mean in 2 years time there is no way I'm going to continue paying $59 a month once the phone is paid off.

      • Recontracting, perhaps yes but not much incentive to keep bouncing away from Telstra until now.

  • Everywhere seems to be out of stock of the regular size pixel 2

    • Went to 3 JB (2 Sydney cbd and 1 eastgarden) -been told no stock and can't tell when it coming

  • got one at Rhodes Telstra, They have one more Panda colour before i left 1 hour ago. Good luck guys

  • +1

Live chat seems to confirm the $59 p/month deal includes calls to the below selected overseas countries?
Bangladesh, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UK, USA and Vietnam.

    Can someone confirm this please?

EDIT - Livechat was misinformed. Deal doesn't include calls to the above countries.

    • If you kept a record of the chat, and in particular a reference number, then you could have held them to the terms provided.

      • Not necessarily. Worth a shot though I suppose.

        • the rep said that wont be valid because i didnt complete the purchase so before i could make the purchase in last min she said it doesnt include!! argh. wasted my time.

  • Ordered on 4 march on online chat. got an email on the 7th saying i would receive the device on the 9th. That came and went so i check my order number on the website and it told me it was on backorder. i then went to the 24x7 chat were i was told it should arrive is 5-7 days went into another chat that said it would arrive in 2-3 days, talked to 4 different people and all said different things and that it wasn't on backorder.Called up and said they would send me a text and email with tracking info when my phone is sent. Not sure what telstra is up to but they really don't all seem to be on the same page.

  • Have tried my luck a couple of times via online chat to see if I could find somebody who would do this for me (I have about 6 weeks left on my current contract).

I then tried to see if I could get them to convert me to a PAYG contract which they wouldn't do without early termination charges. (So I could port out and port back).

Was going to try one of the stored in the Perth CBD but I think I may not have any luck as it seems more people have scored with the online chat.

Was planning on selling the phone anyway to buy (potentially) a OnePlus 5t - but looks like I shall drag a few months out of my HTC 10 (which I do love except for my terrible battery).

  • I was just told via phone to a JB Hi-Fi store that the company has no stock of Google Pixel 2XL, and that even Telstra are referring customers to them.
They offered an iPhone7+ 32 GB instead.
