Now Mr. Nice Guy want to sell another batch, how assuring

      • Which was the last batch that has the problem? I ordered February.

  • Are these the Global edition?

    • no, only global ROM

      • but loaded with official global rom? Not the fake one like last time?

        • yes

        • @MiniInTheBox: will be there regular software updates?

        • @Iamspy:

If it's the official global rom, then yes your will get standard xiaomi updates.

There is a global edition around for a few dollars more, so if you don't trust this seller, perhaps grab one of those.

(the box actually says "global edition").

        • @anzacpaul: thanks 🙏

        • @MiniInTheBox: after reading reviews on your website I have to say this

Don't buy this. It will brick. It is a fake global rom

        • @anzacpaul: do you have the link, please?

        • +1

          @El Cap:

You may need to keep an eye for sales etc, and i'd recommend the 4gb/64gb version. For some reason black always seems to be more expensive.

          https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=S…

        • @anzacpaul: Thanks for the link and advice.

        • I'd say load up the official rom from the Xiaomi site anyway.

Besides, if it were a fake phone, you'd brick it, but that's good though. I'd rather have a bricked phone than a fake one that could be stealing my data.. but I'd prefer a genuine phone that works.

        • @Iamspy: Not necessarily. If it's a genuine phone, flashing the official rom will still work and get rid of all the dodgy stuff. But if it's a fake phone, then yeah, you risk bricking it.

  • the redmi 5 plus link is to redmi 5 only

can you make the redmi 5 plus 3gb price the same please

    • fixed, don't have plan on 5 plus 3GB for now

  • +2

Guys, please do not order 5 S plus. The phone itself is ok but the update thing is not for a normal person. And you will also be regreting your purchase when you have to send this one back and wait for them to " get it—->fix it——> send it back" this is very good 2 months work which I am going through now. PLease do not bother.

    • please do not order 5 S plus

Which model? They don’t have 5 S plus. Typo?

      • +1

5 Plus sorry for the typo

        • +1

Thanks for feedback, I was thinking to buy same model😇

          update thing

Sorry I couldn’t understand it, Did you mean software update?

        • +1

@Iamspy: Yes, it basically bricks the phone and it's useless. However, REP/OP reckons that it is not the case anymore.

    • Can imagine your pain, more painful if this phone happens to be your workhorse. Heartbroken, was about to order :-(

  • +6

The rep dissapeared from the previous thread where people complained about their phones being bricked. Basically a shitty ROM was loaded on it so unless you have V9.2.6.0.NEGMIEK then you are down shit creek.

  • +1

    Don't do it… don't do it… don't do it.. Buyers beware…. beware… beware….

  • Nice size. Six inch is just too big.

    • +1

That’s ok, just take it slowly

    • +1

      Said no man ever

    • I'm yet to find a woman that says that either

  • I bought a Redmi 3 Pro 2 or 3 years ago which had Snapdragon 650. Now we're on 625. Do these things not improve after 2 years? We're still using the same class (or worse) CPU?

    • +1

625 has less raw power but is better optimised for battery life. It is an older processor and Xiaomi have finally moved to the 636 for their Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Too bad they're still using usb micro on their Redmi line however :(

In my opinion, if you can afford to wait a bit longer, hold out for that. It's a fantastic phone from all reports, and should run at around $300 when stock becomes available (only released yesterday).

      • +1

This is 2 gens ahead of Note 3. Optimized or not, it should be 2 gens faster, not the same gen CPU but optimized for battery life.

        • Welcome to Xiaomi :P

        • +1

@anzacpaul: Their Mi series gets proper CPU updates every year. I'm not expecting the Redmi line to get the same CPU as Mi. They should get budget CPUs, but better budget CPUs each year also.

      • +1

anazacpaul: Do you mean that the new Redmi Note 5 Pro and the upcoming Redmi Note 5 both still have micro usb ?

Looked at a few reviews and all the ones I have seen don't mention it at all.

I believe you, but could you link please?

I'm guessing they have a few containers of micro usb connectors lying around they need to get rid of lol.

        • @anzacpaul:

Thanks for info. Micro sd sockets would still be plentiful and cheap, but when you add up the extra also for the usb type c included cable and charger, that starts to add up a bit.

Also from a marketing point of view, a lot of people on low budgets might not mind too much as their supply of chargers and cables would be plenty-full.

Also in order to differentiate the more premium and expensive models, need to have incentive to purchase.

To a lesser degree, as the micro usb port is one of the first things to wear out on a smartphone, installing the smaller more fragile mico port rather than the larger and most likely stronger type C port could be a engineering decision designed to increase turnaround of models.

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:

I agree, I would prefer type c, but it's not a deal breaker, as all my cables are still micro.

  • +1

Please don’t buy the 5 plus. Mine bricked after updating the software. Lodged a ticket and sent it back.

    • +2

The 5 plus is a fantastic phone for $250. Just make sure you get a global version. The issues came from a fake global rom released before the official global, which caused issues as you note above.

Once bitten twice shy with the above seller, but don't let that turn you off the phone if you can grab an official global edition.

  • Is this the "Note 5"?

Hard to tell if it actually has LineageOS support or not…

  • +3

I got my phone a few days ago from the last deal. It arrived late but I got the official global rom.

The phone has been fantastic so far. Nothing to complain about Miui or hardware for just $230

  • Does it have NFC?

    • No F'n Clue.

    • +1

      No NFC

  • +3

Here's my story of this 5Plus become brick and the steps to bring it back, hope it's of help.

I've purchased one 4G/64G last month with fake/problematic global version 9.2.3, the OTA pushed 9.2.6 when I open box and it become a brick minutes later. I've tried multiple approaches to bring it back using fastboot or recovery, they all failed because it's BL locked and I need unlock it before flashing anything in, which is too late.

Then I reached Xiaomi engineer and they've confirmed they've noticed quite a lot cases reported and this model is actually Chinese dometic version(slightly difference) being flashed with a said Shenzhen/Huaqiangbei hacked version Rom, which will be brick under OTA. You need unlock bootloader before it getting brick and flash official ROM back. Fortunately with the help the engineer, I get the phone unlocked (They can unlock the device physically in their internal network) and I flashed global version 9.2.6 which is exactly the OTA version, now the phone resumes without any issues.

In my best guess, the ROM of Feb are mostly likely been tampered and caused this issue; otherwise it could not explain both official Chinese/Global version works fine on this device after flashback. But I have no physical evidence to prove that.

Anyway, the safer way is to apply for unlock from Xiaomi right after registering your phone and flash the official version back after the approval, all the following OTAs should work fine.

    • Who did the tampering? Xiaomi, or the resellers? Who put these hacked/fake global roms on?

      • +1

I have no idea and not a mobile expert, the only logical guess there must be some change/difference with official ones caused this brick issue. Otherwise the OTA will just works as usual like my other Mi phones.

        • +3

I'm guessing the reseller loaded the "unofficial" global rom (as there was one posted on the mi forums as an official global rom, which was later found to be crap).

There is now an official stable global rom available, so if you trust the OP above who told me it is now the official global rom, you shouldn't have any issues.

        • +1

@anzacpaul: Yes, this might be another possible cause, hope everything will be fine after this incident.

        • @tangwf:

I've actually taken the plunge. Paid with Paypal and kept screenshot showing rep stating official global rom in case I run into any issues.

        • @anzacpaul: Yes, the price is so attractive actually even lower than China market. I doubt where they get profit from.

    • +1

They can unlock the device physically in their internal network, as in sending your phone to xiaomi physically and they unlocked BL for you?

      • I could only say my case, the answer is yes after you can prove you are the owner.

        • I think best you read the above comment again and just word it a little clearer. He means to send it back, but I think you mean no need as they can do it remotely from China via their internal system via internet here to Australia.

        • @ozhunter68: Sorry, I am a bit confused now. So I do not need to post my phone back to Xiaomi in China to un-brick it. All their engineer will do is to remotely connect to it and fix it that way?

        • +3

          @maogua:

That's correct, the can fix it remotely. No need to send it back.

        • +1

          @anzacpaul:

Thanks for a clear answer, that should help @magua and hopefully save many others to not need to send phone back and forth to China which would have taken one to two months.

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
Thanks Champ, how do I contact Xiaomi since the useless rep here refuses to address the problems with their fake ROM?

        • @spy:

You will need to ask "maogua or anzacpaul" that question as I have not needed to contact them direct yet.

    • I have two here, one is bricked and other is not. Both have now been unlocked by Xiaomi. Which flashing method should I use? Using Fastboot gives I get a model error in MiFlash tool

  • +1

Hi Rep, Can you get any more deals for 128GB or 256GB Evo Plus 128GB Micro SD Cards ? :)

    • +1

don't have any plan recently, i will share it here when i get any

      • +1

        Thanks!!

  • How is this phone up against the Samsung note 4/5 both around 300$? Any other recommendations in that price range? Has to be around notes size. Thanks

    • can you hold out a bit? Redmi note 5 pro will be the best phone around for that price when it becomes available outside of india/china.

Mi max 2 isn't a bad phone either. similar specs to the 5 plus, but 6.44" screen and usb type c.

      • I’m talking about the Samsung note 4 in comparison to the Redmi note 5 pro, what do you mean hold out? Isn’t it avivable right now ?

        • ahh you said "how is this phone compared to", I thought you were talking about the redmi 5 plus (which is the deal posted).

The Redmi note 5 pro was only released in India on the 28/2/18, so it will take a while for stock to filter onto chinese markets, and then even longer for an official global rom.

I'm sure the Galaxy note 4 is a good phone, but it's also 4 years old. I'd rather have something new than a 4 year old phone personally.

    Rep - Any progress????

    • Didn’t think so…

      • +2

No update. Returning phone, not worth the hassle to deal with Light In The Box.

        • +1

"according to feedback, some of our last batch of products have some problem, if your order is one of these, please pm me the order number. i'm contacting supplier to check how to solve it now"
Nice delaying tactic from the rep. Won't address a single concern on the forum. He is bordering on having himself and his pathetic LIBT mob from being banned from OzBargain.

        • +1

@spy: I agree that LITB should be banned from Ozbargain as they're being very dishonest with my bricked fake ROM phone. I've done everything they've asked and returned the phone (at my expense) but they won't provide a refund. Keep coming up with excuses. I'm pursuing them via Paypal. Shocking.

    • sorry for the late reply, just back from weekends. please check the update in the post.

      • Who pays for the postage back?

        • we will cover the shipping fee.

  • Not worth the trouble for fake junk. Might as well pay an extra $30 from Ali express for genuine phones with no issues.
