    Firefox Focus.
If it's anything actually private don't muck around, Focus is free, open source and designed for this.

    • Cheers, handy to have.

    • Brave is better

      • +1

Focus is purely for private browsing. I use it for anything cough private that I don't want associated with my normal browsing. Otherwise you're right Brave all the way.

        • Incognito? I've noticed brave doesn't block ads on Google or when there's a overload of trackers and ads. Websites like trusted reviews.con

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

That's odd. I don't notice as I also have Blokada running constantly in the background, and a PiHole as a DNS server. but I'll keep that in mind.

        • @Spooderman: you need Linux for that right? Is that like a blanket ad blocker?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

I'll assume you mean the PiHole. You do need Linux. I just have it installed on a Raspberry Pi Zero W which cost about $20 in total. This allows for network wide AdBlock, which is awesome.
          Check it out here

Bbbut then again I have heard of people running it on a VM within windows so you could always try that route if you can't spare the 20.

    • I prefer Firefox since I can install add-ons and sync between my devices. But Firefox Focus is faster and simpler to use.

      • Don't the add-ons slow it down significantly?

        • +1

Yes and no. Depends on your phone, addons used, etc. For example something like Ublock origin has a little affect if at all.

        • Sure add-ons do slow down Firefox but, for the sake of privacy and security, they're worth a few second delay. My Firefox for Android setup:

          • Add-ons: uBlock Origin, Https Everywhere, Cookies Auto Delete, I don't care about cookies.

          • Search engines: Searx.me (primary), Duckduckgo (secondary)

          • Settings: No analytics or usage sharing or sh*t. Clear any sensitive info when Quit.

(And of course a good VPN service running on top of these.)

  • Excuse my ignorance but isn't Android going to send anything and everything to Google anyway?

    • +4

Android probably doesn't send much more data to Google than iOS does to Apple. Android is an open source OS that many different manufacturers use, so if you don't install Google apps and choose the right settings you'll send about zero data to Google.

    • +1

Use AOSP, or Android with all Google Play Services stripped off.. Easier to just use AOSP though.

You can still install and run most apps (but not all) from the google store by using Yalp Store (available on F-Droid).

  • Is this an improvement on Chrome incognito tab? I use incognito to browse smh to bypass the article limit

    • Not at all. Chrome is heaps better in just about everyway.

  • Hmm, so it won't share
Fast download, Smart search, Quick access, Unlimited tabs

    bummer

If they're not mining data, I would how they make money? coin mining?

I recommend Brave browser. Based on Chrome with its compatibility and benefits but blocks ads, trackers etc so very fast and it's extremely private https://brave.com

    • It's much faster than Firefox.

    • I use Brave to open some pages when my main browser, Firefox, can't. It's also faster and it renders web pages and fonts better than Firefox. BTW, Brave is the only Chromium-based Android browser that can handle IP leak from WebRTC properly?

  • Anyone using "InBrowser" ?

  • ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
