  • Just purchased Imac 27" 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
    4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
with 10% off retail price $2397

    Paid $2070 + Apple care $230 = $2300

    • Where? DickSmith is $2,159.10
      http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC6523/apple-imac-27-quot-2-…

      10% off $2397 is $2157.

      • If you are student at high school or uni, you can get a similar discount straight from the Apple website with your student ID. But that is only for students as far as I know.

        • Students and teachers pay A$ 2,279.00 for the same computer, without Apple Care. With $21 extra u get Apple Care.

      • Went to DickSmith today to price match, including Apple Care, they couldn't do it for $2300 instead offered $2379 with Apple Care. This was at Macquarie Centre, North Ryde.

Purcahsed at JB today got 13.5% off.

    • Yeah JB were having $50 off most things then 10% on top of that.
Got my macbook pro 13" for $1254 (got David Jones to price match as JB sold out), RRP $1445.

      • Yeah even i went in to ask and was offered $1250 at sydney city jb… But surprisingly the other 3 stored that i checked with didnt have stock.. jb, dse n myers..
So more than 10% off and no stock only indicated that they all r clearing out stock to make way for the new macbook pros.. No confirmed dates yet but Apple sure is upto something….

        • Yeah the new macbooks and all that are apparently scheduled for march/april.
They'll be barely any better to be honest, and they won't be the same price.. so if you can score yourself a macbook for $1250, do it.

        • Apparently? Do you have any reputable links where it says that?

How do you know the 13.3" models won't be updated to Core i processors next year. Especially with the release of Sandy Bridge early in the new year which much better Intel integrated graphics capabilities. May even see the 13.3" models dump the integrated Nvidia graphics altogether for Intel graphics since Nvidia look like exiting the chipset business. But it's all conjecture at this stage.

  • I'm in the market for the basic imac. Not sure whether to take advantage of the 10% off now or see what is on offer in the post-xmas sales. What do the experienced hands suggest? i recall in previous years prices were OK post-xmas. I hadn't decided to make the purchase when the various Myer offers could be combined a week or so ago to get the price down to around $1200.
    Cheers

Apple rarely have discounts about 10%, I'd get it now and haggle as much as you can.

Or like the guys above, pricematch at jb or harvey norman

  • Update: Took the plunge and bought from JB Hifi for $1300. Not exactly a mindblowing deal though salesman pledged to match any lower price I could find until Dec 31 which put my mind at ease should prices plunge in the post Xmas sales.
