Optus Reneging on iPad Pro 10.5 Deal - What Can I Do?

G'day everyone, back in December I signed up for a 256GB iPad Pro 10.5 for $74.50 a month from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/348315

Similar to another current Optus post, they totally stuffed the order and originally sent just a sim card and no iPad. It took multiple live chats and a shite load of effort but eventually after 6 weeks the iPad was delivered. Orignally when I clicked Order I received a single email with temporary order number and that's it, no other emails with the price in writing.

Fast forward and after receiving the first and second bill it was difficult to see what I was actually paying due to them originally only sending the sim card and the device payments were hard to read (due to pro rata payments over the first and second month). But now I've got the 3rd bill I can see they are charging me $79.50 a month and not the $74.50.

I jumped on live chat, and they claim they have looked back at the deals at the time of order and no such deal existed (which is BS!) and that the $79.50 is the correct promotion price from then. So as far as the live chat guy said, it's case closed.

Any suggestions for my next move? I thought my Optus nightmare had ended when the iPad arrived but it looks like it's just starting!

Cheers!

I'm on-board if they are.. wait of course they are

  • Get the screen shot of original deal, Call ask to speak with supervisor, mentioned tio ACCC and they will melt like butter in summer.

they are charging me $79.50 a month and not the $74.50.

Do you have any documentation that shows $74.50?

This. Do they email a contract or something?

    • No, the only documentation I have is the Customer Authority Form which outlines the full price without any discounts applied at all.

I was only sent that 5 weeks after the initial order and it shows the full non-discounted monthly payments of $97.00.

  • typical optus. they pissed me off 3 years ago and i haven't looked back since. old adage of you get what you pay for

  • I started a new "bundle" with Optus 13 months ago….I have had two monthly bills correct since the start. Mostly stupid errors which they carry from bill to bill, until someone with enough brains looks at the bill and decides to adjust the ridiculous errors.

I don't say this lightly,but…..even though you are morally right and don't deserve the low treatment, don't waste your time and energy. The so-called Customer Service are moronic, stupid and useless and you will get nowhere with contacting them by phone, smart-chat or using member services…believe me I have tried them all!

I had the same problem with Telstra some years ago and HAD A SIGNED QUOTATION LETTER and yet the ACCC said "they sympathised, but any company is entitled to make a mistake"….that is why I left Telstra and went to Optus……out of the frying pan into the fire!!!!!

I got that same deal back then and mine is $79.50 for a 256GB iPad Pro on the 100MB plan. From memory the smaller capacity iPad Pro was $74.50.

    Old OzB post here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/348377

Comment on that post: Note these prices are for the 64gb version, I would op for the extra $5 per mth for the 128gb.

Hmmm well it seems I'm wrong then..

I guess the answer to my own question of what can I do is - make a tit of myself!

Thanks for all the suggestions though everyone.

I do agree with your frustration at only receiving a single, uninformative email from Optus after order though.

  • I'm on the same deal. I bet they're charging you for Sports $5/month

    edit: Just checked. 79.50 also

  • For a start the problem was going with Optus. They are shite when it comes to CS.

  • Optus billing systems are horrible. I had a similar issue with 25% off $40 mobile plan. finally after calling their customer care for 2 months they made some changes and now they charge me $13 instead!…
