Zwave Digital Door Lock for $139 Delivered from Kas.com.au

160

Normally $297 plus delivery, currently can get this lock delivered for $139. Operates as a stand alone keypad operated door lock, available in left or right hand door versions. If you have, or plan in the future to get, a z-wave home automation system it can be added into that. Has a hidden key slot should the batteries die (although you get plenty of warning should the batteries start to go low). I bought one last year and it was simple to install, and works well. I have z-wave so can add/remove codes remotely. I use mine for the entrance from the garage into the house. I would note that it is not a deadbolt lock, and not sure about water resistance, so would not recommend using it for an external door to your house (if you need/want that, I'd suggest something like https://www.lockweb.com.au/en/site/lockweb/lockwood-products…).

Note on checkout there is an option to get a Vera3. Don't. That's the old Vera z-wave controller that has been replaced by the VeraEdge or VeraPlus (http://www.smarthome.com.au/vera-plus-z-wave-controller.html).

Also on sale:
e- touch $280 (was $365) lock - bluetooth/pin/rfid (https://kas.com.au/online-store/etouch-bluetooth-smart-lock/)
onyx face recognition $395 (was $480) lock - face/pin/rfid (https://kas.com.au/online-store/face-recognition-door-lock/)

Personally had not seen the face recognition lock before - pretty funny, but no idea if it actually works. The bargain is still the z-wave lock IMHO.

Not dissing the post, just adding an option I found. Has the option of a deadbolt. Not as cheap either.

    • No offence taken. :-)

Looks cool. Not a big fan of fingerprint readers, in particular on external doors, due to dirt/grime impacting on reliability, but for an internal door it would be good. Certainly looks better!

It's all lying on the fingerprint. If the fingerprint scanner sucks or something, that thing is useless.

Why would you unlock something with your phone or a card when you can buy ones that unlock with a couple digits. The point of getting an electric doorlock is to remove the authentication of "what I have" to "what I know".

  • Hey OP, how does it open from the inside? Is it always open free swing?

Default is you need to key in code to open from outside. Just turn handle to open from inside. Optionally can enable 'free passage mode' where it's always unlocked (so can just enable locking when you want eg if you have a storage room for stuff if you rent your house out…)

    Popular in South Africa…

  • I have one of the Lockwood digital deadbolt with a Vera Edge at home. Good stuff for the front door, and I have a zwave garage door opener too.

    • Snap. ;-)

    • Slightly off-topic - but how do you guys find the reliability of the Z-wave automation?

eg. when the Vera issues a command, does the garage opener respond reliably, and within an acceptable amount of time?

      Thanks.

It mostly does, and is better than it originally was, but sometimes Vera app updates "break" it. The main issue is the app not authenticating to our Vera unit properly, and if that happens, you need to log off, then back on, and it will work. It was working properly for a while, but I think the latest update "broke" it again.

        • Do you use Imperihome? The Vera app is pretty ordinary….

        • @PlasticSpaceman: Vera app. I might have to try the alternative option.

Reliability is good as long as - when setting up - you don't go overboard with apps on the gateway. I did that and found the device was restarting frequently most likely due to low memory. When it's rebooting, of course, commands don't go through. Now it's settled down, issues are rare.

  • Interested also in a smart door lock for our internal door to the garage. what sort of z-wave automation would one setup for this?

Any Australian frequency zwave system should work - just make sure it supports locks. I use Vera.

  • Is this safe against alohomora?

No. This will only keep muggles out.

I have a Honeywell digital code lock, best thing I ever did, no more keys, and with kids having no keys is fantastic.

  • Any way to adjust the KAS-600 Z-Wave Lock timeout. It is currently at 5 seconds although I would like it increased.

    • No idea. It's not mentioned in the manual. Maybe could do something via zwave, but if it bugs you that much maybe contact them and ask…. :-)

      • I was able to work around it by enabling Free Passage mode. Now by default an unlock via ZWave protocol will keep it unlocked, whereas the manual PIN functionality still works as normal by relocking after 5 seconds.
Also - it works great with Home Assistant if anyone else here uses it!
