Converting American/Canadian Coins to Australian Money

Hey guys,

Long story short.

I recently came back from overseas with a hefty amount of American / Canadian coins comprising of dimes, nickles, quarters and dollar coins.

I was just wondering where the best place to go is to get them converted back to Australian money?

Anyone know anywhere that will do it for free or a low conversion fee?

Cheers :)

Coins, hmmmm. I think your only chance is people who are going there.

  • Maybe this if it has no fees? Haven't read the fine print on fees

Put them in a jar for a rainy day, you can't do anything with them.

Next time on your last day, buy something or swap them at a shop

I have no shame, I bought KFC in lax with 200 plus pennies, the chick frothed though as she needed changed

If you are desperate then stick them on EBay

  • Just out of interest, how hefty?

  • Coins are practically impossible to exchange commercially. eBay/Gumtree, etc. likely to be your best options.

  • Obviously you know now, to always clear out your coins as much as you can before leaving any country.

Its strap for newer travellers. Unles you KNOW you will be returning to that country.

  • Many years back I watched a group of British tourists in Madrid airport departures frantically feed a pile of 200 peseta (about 1.2€) coins into vending machines for cans of drink. Expensive drinks, but the coins would have been useless outside Spain.

Also, stumbled upon this site, but it's practical only for UK https://www.leftovercurrency.com/ and you can see there is a substantial loss for coin exchange rates.
