My Cousins Dog Chewed up My Shoes, What Should I Do?

Hi all,

Long story short, went to my family's house to visit them and at the front door my cousin told me to bring my shoes inside but I just put my shoes on the shoe rack with the other 20 pairs already there. Other relatives leave early and he noticed that his dog had chewed my shoes and put them higher after they were torn and carried on inside and didn't tell me about it. When I was leaving I noticed that my shoes were extremely wet and were curious why as it was dark. I look at my shoes under the light and they have been chewed and torn. They aren't expensive shoes but not cheap either (Converses).

Now I am in the dilemma of what to do? He didn't say anything to me but I am upset as I only purchased my shoes about two months ago and I am the type of person that likes to take care of their belongings. I don't know what to do as he did tell me to bring my shoes inside but since there were another 20 pairs already there I thought heck why am I the only one that has to bring my shoes inside.

Should I just cop it and disregard it as it will create an awkward tension between me and him or let him know that I am upset about it?

  • I believe there was a Sex in the City episode on a similar issue.. except it was a pair of Manolos worth few hundred.

  • Lol first world problems !!

Why dont you go and chew the dog….

  • I seriously have to start covering the threads on Ozbargain on my youtube channel, this place is a goldmine

    • Your coverage of the OzBargain Birthday Party was an instant classic.

  • If you haven't got a dog, get one. They are great.

People who leave their dogs outside, create all sorts of problems. They will bark incessantly, chew shoes out of frustration, and not be a happy puppy in general.

Let them in, live with the hair, the smell, you will be rewarded many fold.

  • Jerry Seinfeld? Is this you?

  • This thread is an example of why Kim Jong-un wants to nuke us from orbit.

  • Put the wet, chewed up shoes on and go give that mongrel a good boot up the backside (9 laces deep), then let's see if he chews your shoes up next time.

  • I rather doubt this happened but in the story it seems odd that the dog picked on one pair of shoes out of 20- did that pair smell unusual? Like a dead animal perhaps?

  • chew your cousins shoes then

  • just buy some new shoes.

    The 'blame others' generation

Build a 1.5m fence and point a camera at his dog

  • Plot twist: OP's cousin chewed his shoes, not the dog.

  • Here's the best course of action.

    Chew up your friends shoes.

  • I think everyone just needs to paws a while.

    Sorry OP, it's your fault.

Cousin told you to bring shoes inside likely knowing that dog would go for your shoes (dog owners know what their dogs like and dogs like certain colours, toys, etc.). You intentionally ignored him - there's a reason why he told you to bring the shoes in. Your shoes got destroyed…. come on… take some responsibility for your actions!!!

    I mean:
    - when the zoo says do not climb over the tiger's enclosure fence do you then climb over get bitten and then sue the zoo?
    - when you get caught by the cops for speeding do you say but everyone else was speeding?
    - when you smoke even with all the warnings and when people tell you not to but keep smoking because your friends have not had any health effects but then get cancer do you blame the cigarette company?
I seriously could go on and on…

This attitude really shts me. Grow up and learn some responsibility! Putting it another way, if you were to try and sue your cousin for damages you would easily lose, however, if his dog had actually gotten sick from a material in your shoe then he would have a very good case to sue you.

  • Take the shoes back to the store you bought them from and say you don't know what happen, just carry on till the replace the shoes for free. :) Good luck

  • Let it go dude, your cousin probably noticed that your shoes were new hence the advice to bring them inside. Family is more important than things, so buy yourself a new pair and listen to your cousin next time.

  • OP must be 12 years old

  • Comments are better than Content

  • If only the dog chewed out your toes

    Then it’s worth discussing

  • OP, no need to be angry

Here, get a pair of these bad boys

  • Converses are like $20 just move on.

  • OP if you can't make a simple decision like this then I don't know what you would do when you will face real life problem.

  • Geeez,……. I think I am at a wrong place. Even my 11 year old will be more considerate and accommodating than OP. Life is not to worry about $120 shoe and torn the friendship esp it was done by innocent dog due to its inherent animal nature.

Thanks for not asking if you should call bikies to retaliate.

With all respect, OP, you need to grow.

  • Your cousin told you to put your shoes inside, you didn't.
your choice and your shoes got chewed, cop it.

  • Are we all being trolled? First a thread about some guy crying over spending an $2 extra on an Uber now this? Why do so few people have common sense these days?

  • Get over it

  • Hire a better lawyer than him, hire a team of lawyers and researchers, dig up some dirt.

  • This thread has run its course and is going nowhere. Comments now closed.

  • You should sue the dog in a court of law. Where dogs preside and are the prosecution and defense, i would watch that tv show.
