Samsung Galaxy S9 $1079.10, S9+ $1214.10 (10% off RRP + Preorder Wireless Charger + 10k Qantas Points) @ Samsung Education Site

1220

Pre-ordered one myself last night so I thought I'd share.

If you have access to an email address that ends in .edu.au you can gain access to Samsungs education shop that gets you 10% off the RRP of Galaxy S9/S9+. My purchase also got picked up on cash rewards also for 5% back.

so a 64gb S9+ at $1349 RRP works out to;

$1,214.10
+ free wireless charger (for pre-order, $119 RRP)
+ 10k Qantas points (which you can trade in for ~$50 in gift vouchers)
+ 5% back from cash rewards
+ Aus stock (obviously)
+ free delivery

to gain access to the Samsung educational portal you need to create a samsung account (any email address).
After you have created the account if you try to access the educational portal you'll be asked for an email address that ends in .edu.au
Once you input the email they will send a confirmation to your .edu.au address that you have to click on (email link expires in 30 minutes)
After that your original samsung account is permanently flagged and you can visit the education portal anytime (no need for the .edu.au email afterwards)

If you don't have a Qantas frequent flyer account to claim the points you can create one for free via this link

+1 for the effort in description. Good first post, but put price in header

  • +15

See? That is the CORRECT way to pre-order S9!

Screw the filthy 20% off from those so-called premium eBay sellers, Shame!

  • +3

Further 10% with TRS makes it a sweet deal

    • Hey, in regards to TRS, can i use my Australian Passport to Claim at the airport?

      • Yes.

      • +3

You'll need to present your goods, original tax invoice, passport and boarding pass to an officer at the TRS counter.

        • Does the box have to be sealed still or open is ok?

        • +6

          @GerrardLFC:

Open is fine. Did TRS on a camera last month. Had it around my neck and just put it on the table for them to look at.

    • Tip Ring Sleeve?

    • If I get a friend to help me buy the phone, can I still claim the 10% at the airport?

    • It's not quite 10%. It's 1/11.

    • What's TRS? And how can I use it to get the 10% off?

  • 10%off staff discount easily

  • Hmmm can you do the Samsung buyback scheme with this? Up to $350 on a S7 Edge

    • +1

I just did a live chat with a Samsung rep. They would refer you to brightstar directly to do a tradeup if you purchase through the education portal. However, you will not be eligible for the promotional $125 trade up bonus credit from Samsung.

      • Thanks mate.

  • careful OP because you're breaking the conditions of the education store.
Not sure what the consequences could be.. but just saying..

@kabammi, just curious to know mate, how did you inferred that OP is not a student and you are warning him to be careful ?

      • +1

That’s not it at all. The warning is not to post the offer to people who may not be eligible. Not sure why all the negs, seems like a legitimate concern.

        • -6

Thanks for your concerns mate. But it's not a good idea to doubt the intelligence of your fellow ozbargainers. I think everyone here is mature enough and they know what they are doing. Hope you are having a good day.

        • +4

@paul11: Who said anything about anyone’s intelligence?

        • -6

@omgitzrick: Your comment, with your unnecessary concerns, about fellow ozbargainers.

        • +1

@paul11: it wasn’t my comment. I was clarifying what the guy you replied to said, since you made a completely nonsensical leap in the wrong direction.

        • -1

@omgitzrick: Mate, u just repeated what the OP mentioned, just in other words. Now you are trying to deny it. I posted the question for OP, but u jumped in. Anyway, I am done with this conversation. Feel free to have the last word.

      • Hey Paul, it's by deduction. "Preordered one myself last night". If the OP has purchased or pre-purchased through there, then he has used the store and has to have qualified to be.

    • +1

yep says 2/3 days comes via courier

      • Thank you!!! That's the information that I needed before taking a plunge.

  • Nice deal OP. Are you a first time Samsung user? How do you know if the S9 will be any good?

      • +2

All the reviews (I read) says that S9 is a solid toc release from Samsung, and is a great if not one of the best phone released this year. It is better to search up these reviews for more details on S9 and S9+. Nowadays, I say neither of the OS is inferior to the another one. Android and iOS has their own pro and cons, if your brother switch back in near future, it is not S9's issue, it is user preference.

        • -1

Yeah just wait until otherwise brands release their stuff before Oct and decides then

  • Damn it! I want this but normally salary sacrifice and need to wait for the new FBT year. I wonder what offer (if any) will be around from the 1st of April..

    • What phone do you have?

      • zte open c, was $60 at JB

      • +1

        He built his own phone

        • He built his own phone

If its a shoe phone, then its pretty cool!

    • +2

The BOM is about $300-400usd typically. Maybe you can get a knockoff clone for $50

      • -5

        Can someone address my comment?

        • +3

Someone already asked what phone you have and you are yet to respond to this relevant question where the answer will assist in putting your comment into perspective

        • +1
          • Because it doesnt cost $50 to make
          • Some people use it to do more then just make calls - some people hardly make any calls with them these days
          • Its a flag-ship product, flagship phones dont cost $50
          • Its iterative, how much do you expect to change in one year? Who is compelling you to upgrade from the previous model?
          • Many people buy these on contract so the cost is spread over 12-24 months.

If you're happy with your current phone, why do you even care if someone shells out a bunch of money for a phone? Its not like you're paying for it.

    • +3

You can't compare the cost price of a phone to the selling price.
How will Samsung pay all the engineers and other specialists to support the design, manufacture/supply, integrate components and test these phones?
It probably cost them a total of $5bn to introduce this product and if each sells for $50-$60, company might go bankrupt and you won't see a Galaxy s10.

It's like saying, during peak hour it only costs a train operator $2/pp to move them from point A to B but the ticket price is $10. Well who paid billions of dollars to purchase the trains? configure them to the network? integrate with signalling equipment? paying full time salaries for network operations?

      • Fire the touchwiz team, put stock Android on there, people will then get better phones at cheaper prices?

        • Had to Google what Touchwiz is because I use a HTC.
I could give you my opinion but doesn't mean it's the right one. I guess it's Samsung's strategy in not having to rely on Google or the 'open handset alliance' hence they have developed their capabilities in that space. Theoretically and conceptually, it gives them a competitive advantage over other android mobile manufacturers that rely on the stock abdroid UI and don't have control over the OS like HTC? Xiaomi?

        • @gezza90: yeah, theoretically. Except it sucks so badly. Even the blindest, most loyal Samsung famboiis don't like TouchWiz. It makes perfectly good top end hardware run like the $99 Coles phone lol

    • You deserve down vote

    Typing this from Galaxy S9

    • +1

      Congrats.

    • Typing this from Samsung Omnia

    • -1

Liking this from Galaxy S9+ …..and loving it :)

    • What are the 5 things you like most about S9 now that you own one?

  • Also applies to accessories as well - so found it cheaper than eBay sites with their 20% to get it direct from Samsung.

  • +3

I wished that I had an .edu.au email address.

    • +9

      send me a pm

      • -1

Have access to plenty of edu.au email address.

  • +1

Isn't this price easily going to beaten soon with an ebay sale on any store that has Australian stock?

  • -1

anyone here who have edu.au id and wanna help to ?? i dont have and i want to buy s9plus

  • +2

I have the Samsung S8 and don't feel tempted to upgrade. The S9 has the same USB-C charging port, headphone jack, front-facing camera, RAM, battery, 5.8-inch display and Bixby button. They upgraded the speakers, changed where the fingerprint sensor is and the camera can now capture at f-1.5 and f-2.4, but the megapixels are still at 13mega pixels. If I had a Samsung s5 or 6 then yes it would be a big upgrade.

OP, I know what kiseki means in Korean!

    • +1

Yes, after reading several reviews, the consensus seems to be that S8-owners should not feel too inclined to upgrade to the S9 as there are only incremental improvements and few new features, and, exactly as you said, if you own an S7 or older, then you should likely consider the upgrade. I own an S6 and am keen.

    • +1

Kiseki in Japanese means miracle. I think you're referring to 개새끼 (gaeseki) in Korean which means soab…

      • I see! thanks.

  • +1

Before taking up this offer, please check your work offers first as Samsung has offered 20% discount to us (with the same points and charger offer). You will need to register via your work email address.

    • 20% off s9/s9+. Would it mind is it a work portal offer, pm will be appreciated, I can look for friends or colleagues having access

    • +1 -the partnership program stores have lower cost.
My preorder was significantly cheaper than this post.

    • Well I think different partners have different rates then…
We get S9+ for less than 900 ^_^||
Yeh same everything but still confused on how to claim Qantas points…

      • When I purchased through my work's Samsung store there was an option to enter your frequent flyer number.

  • awesome, thanks decided to take the plunge with all the extra discounts, points ,cashback and used my sons edu.au email addr . FYI its ordered in my name for tax reasons and had no issues with his email

  • +2

Didn't know I need a new phone until OP posted this. Thank you OP.

  • Anyone have an edu email to help a brother out ^_^

  • My student email ends in .edu so it doesn't work… Spoke to Samsung customer support and they've escalated to management. Drainer

    • +1

Did U scroll down and click “enter education portal”?

      • I entered my email and just added ".au" so that it worked; apparently Monash has a redirect in their system so I got the email anyway… Woops

  • Anyone knows how to claim Qantas points?

    • +1

When you go through checkout. In the Shipping & Delivery section there is a box to enter your Qantas Frequent Flyer number.

  • -6

I can provide a number of edu.au email accounts for some $$ :P

  • +2

Anyone need an edu email PM me.

  • Can you get the cash back by simply logging in with an edu account in the normal Samsung site that you reach via the cashrewards site? I have to wait for my sister to wake up to make an edu account but just asking in advance. Thanks!

    • +2

No I couldnt , it takes you to the normal Samsung . I had the edu site open with the phone in my cart and it wasnt in my cart when i went thru cashrewards. It didnt bother me if I missed out so I still bought it (with the other pages still open) and I got the email from cashrewards saying it was tracking.

      • So you opened the edu site and added the phone to the cart first, then opened cashrewards in a new tab and went through to the normal samsung site. After that you checked out on the edu site with the normal site still open and it tracked ok?

        • +2

Yes correct . I couldnt work out how to get to the edu site thru the main page perhaps you may have better luck . hope it works for you

  • How long is this offer valid for?

  • Optus is doing $79 plan 24months for s9

  • Is the $50 gift card the best way to spend the 10k of frequent flyer points, or is there a way to make more money back with them?

    • The points are most vauable if you upgrade a flight to business class. They end up worth anywhere from 3-8 cents per point.
You can also sell them for about 1c / point online.
YOur gift card is worth 0.5c / point.

      • Interesting. How do you sell them? When you check out on the Samsung website, do you just put in someone elses qantas ID to give it to them?
