Anything over $1000 & it will spark customs' interest…

Unless of course the seller puts like $999 on the shipping invoice…

      • If you contact the seller, they will reply that the total cost already includes the GST

        • Is shipping from China or Aus? I very much doubt an overseas seller would pay Aus GST…

          • @Bunsen: Hong Kong.

@Bunsen: @boohooimissout: yeah but nah… They wouldn’t be paying AUS import duty, trust me… Go for it though if u believe them…!

          • @Bunsen: @Bunsen: So you think the seller lies on their message?
If we pursue dispute through PayPal dispute we won't win?

          • @Bunsen: @boohooimissout: Prolly not as the purchaser pays the import duties. IDK, They might do dodgy customs form to get around the duty like putting ‘Gift’ or ‘used’ or less than $1000AUD incl shipping…

All I know is Customs check anything >$1000…

          • @Bunsen: @Bunsen: i think you can pay it through ebay somehow, but its separate charge not included in base.

          • +2

@Bunsen: @Gristy: Yep, seen that from ebay.us, it is actually specified though in the postage section & highlighted as “import duties & other charges”. This particular ebay auction doesn’t show this..

Personally, I’d hate to buy something expecting to pay $x then get a call from customs saying they wont release the item until u pay a further 10% import duty…

Only my 2c & raising awareness for the OZB’s that may purchase this item…

      Which awards?

        source : trust me dude

    • Listing clearly states: No GST or customs fees payable by the customer on items under $1000 shipping to Australia

You are on your own if you are charged GST at the border, regardless of what the seller has told you.

      • I wonder Ebay/Paypal's refund of costs position if you directly ask & get a reply back from the seller that they guarantee no GST/customs?

      • If you contact the seller, they will reply that the total cost already includes the GST

        • +1

Are they providing a GST tax invoice and trading from a GST registered company? If so, even better.

If they aren't, the seller is misleading you and you will be slapped 10% at the border, of which eBay will tell you is your responsibility (been through this before plenty of times).

          • @MorriJ: I don't know, all I know is that they said no import tax, all inclusive.

    • Import tax is payable as it is over 1000. Misleading description

      • It's not. If you contact the seller, they will reply that the total cost already includes the GST.

    • Might be best to ask them to fudge the price on the package for you. I've never asked, but the 2 items I've purchased from China over aud$1000 had been marked around $970, which at most was a $900 fudging.

You seem to fudge a lot.

  • Just a reminder OP: your deal posts need to have the seller's or vendor's name in the title.

    • Thanks Scrimshaw.

Is there any reason why the developer can't automate this?

If that's too hard, why can't the developer separate the fields to three: title, price, vendor.

      Seems very straight-forward to me.

      Just a suggestion.

      Cheers

I'm not a Web Developer so I can't answer that question, but for any suggestions or features that you want to see implemented on Ozbargain you can start a new discussion topic here or you may also just comment here to get Scotty's attention.

User interface updates for the Deal Submission page are sort of in the pipeline (with a low priority), however I am not part of the development team so I can't tell you exactly when it will happen (or how soon).

        • Thanks mate!

  • Says there are not GST or import charges if the item is under $1000 in the delivery section

If you contact the seller, they will reply that the total cost already includes the GST

      • Why don't you just post the screenshot of the confirmation from the seller regarding Australian import duty so everyone knows this is a legit deal!?

        • How do I post pictures

        • +1

          I have uploaded it

  • Nice post, OP. Good price for a door-to-door purchase on the Xiaomi Notebook. Did you get one?

    • Nope I don't like the no warranty condition
