What is Quick Charge 3.0 and VoltIQ?

Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology is 4x faster than conventional charging and up to 40% quicker than Quick Charge 2.0. It typically charges a compatible device from 0% to 80% in 35 minutes. It achieves this by increasing the voltage from 3.6V to 20V with 200mV increments. This technology is backwards compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, Samsung AFC and Huawei FCP which is capable of charging a 3500mAh battery from 0% to 60% in 30 minutes.

VoltIQ charges up to 5V/2.4A in each port simultaneously and is suitable for devices not using QC (iPhone, iPad, Nexus etc.) that is quicker than conventional charging.

  • Is this better than the Blitzwolf BW-S7?

    • Yes. BlitzWolf is 40W while this is 54W. What that means is the current total amperage on the Tronsmart is going to be greater than the Blitzwolf so you can charge more devices quicker.

      • +1

        Well not quite…

From memory the Blitzwolfs do 2.4A each for the 5 ports but max 40W. 40VA/5V = 8A total. But anyway yes 40W for 5 ports.
From the link the 4 VoltIQ ports do up to 2.4A each, but only up to 7.2A in total = 7.2A*5V = 36VA = 36W for 4 ports.
Yes each port is the same max, but your 4 will do a little more per port combined. Not that significant though.
The reason you get to claim 54W is the 18W max on the single QC3.0 port. 36+18=54W.

Note that 2.4A*5V= 12W. So that's the most you'll get out of 1 port on either device, other than that one QC3.0 port, which is 18W or 1.5x as quick at pumping electricity.

Basically unless every device you're charging is power hungry and starts off with very little juice, you won't notice a difference. At least not based on specs. If you have a QC 3.0 device, yes that will charge more quickly.

  • Could it do a laptop?

    • No unfortunately not. What sort of laptop? Many of them use USB-PD.

      • Is there one of these that does usb-pd clear? To use with a pixel 2 xl. I assume then it would use a usb-c to usb-c cable rather than a to C?

        • +1

          This one will do it.

        • @Clear: thanks clear. Will hold out for a sale on that one.

        • @kulprit: it's $us18 too

        • +1

@kulprit: That's the best price I can get it too atm.

        • @Clear:
I bought one of them and within a week the type-c port started playing up
I emailed support_aftersale@ but haven't heard back, is that the right point of contact?

        • @based: What's your order number? I'll follow up.

        • @Clear:
          Thanks, sent you a pm

        • @Clear: got one of these from the recent sale, 4/2/18, still haven't been delivered. Sent email to support, no reply.

        • @vin88: Order number? I'll follow up.

        • @Clear: pm sent. Thanks

  • Can't recommend these enough.

      try

  • Does the product come with plugs for AU power sockets or is it just the US one and you need to get a cheap converter?

    • Neither. It uses a Figure 8 Cable however the one included is EU.

      • Can a Chinese (same as AU) cable be provided instead on request? Some sellers do this.

  • +2

Does this one have the same 'coil whine' as the 60W version posted here last month?

  • Noob question: Does anyone have recommendations for a Type C PD car charger for Google pixel 2 xl? I can only find the belkin one https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/all-phones/belkin/belkin-27…

I can find them at a cheaper price elsewhere, but still over $50

  • Thanks OP grabbed one.. seems there is never enough USB charging plugs these days!

  • Does this plug into any normal port, or do I need an adapter?

  • Do you need special cables for quickcharge to work optimally?

(Google gives me a bunch of contrary info!)

    • +3

A quality cable is recommended like the OEM often included with your phone. The generic unbranded eBay cables for under a dollar are normally a no go to achieve optimal speeds.

  • Grabbed another one for work - I concur, these are an excellent charger. Thanks OP!

Bugger my browser pre-populated the wrong postcode on the 5 port charger. Sent them an email hopefully they see it before the charger is mailed out.

    • +1

What's your order number? I'll let them know.

      • +1

I've sent you a message. Thanks heaps!

  • What is the region plug which will be issued together with the charger?

  • +2

You can change the shipping to ‘Registered Airmail’ at no extra cost by the way:
Registered Airmail (15-30 business days) USD 0.00

    • I noticed that as well.

    • -1

      Na there's a charge

      • Not for me there wasn't :)

    • +1
