Before signing up to Bupa, you should be aware of the changes to their cover effective from 1st July, 2018.

This is a thread I made about the changes: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/366202

You beat me to it by mere seconds!!

Thanks for the info. Didn't realise they are doing that.

    • Yeah read about this yesterday. Time to change my hospital cover from BUPA.

Here's just a little bit of what BUPA is doing to health insurance :

Not to mention their forcing you to go to their dentists, their Drs, their hospital.

    Bupa is the pits…

  • No love for family cover?

    • Pretty sure family cover is also eligible for bonus point. For example, the Growing Family cover is a mid hospital and mid extra cover therefore will get 60,000 velocity points (as couple)

  • looks not good

  • I just signed up to AAMI with $200 cashback if I stay for 45 days. That means I can easily leave before the end of June, and by then another insurer may be providing a sign up bonus.

Which then includes an April 1st price rise.

      • They all go up on that date anyway

        • Yes. But if you prepaid a year right now, you'd possibly be better off than deal hopping.

@jesseboy89: Not when I take into account the interest I'll save on my mortgage by leaving the money I'd use for an upfront payment in my account and sticking with fortnightly/monthly payments.

  • Velocity points not worth what they cover.

Bupa is taking us down the path of US healthcare.. no way.

  • will the points work if you're resigning (with Bupa)?

    • You should think about finding a new company, they are nasty.

      • no doubt they are, but I've been with them for more than 10 yrs now (since HBA days before BUPA took over) and everywhere I look is more expensive. Even getting a new quote from BUPA would be about 20% more than what I'm on now.

        • If that's the case, I don't think you will have much luck to negotiate with them. (unless u are able to find some good deal from Medibank and get them to offer you something)

What I have found is that the sales from both Bupa and Medibank are bounded by the campaign (e.g. 1 months free etc) and the best they could do on top is waived waiting period. They can't do anything else such as give u a better price by price match competitor.

P.S. definitely a lot more flexible back in the day. such as price match, loyalty bonus match etc.

    • No, won't work. I tried. if you are with Bupa already, they won't give u points to get you to stay.
However, they could offer 1 month free and waived waiting period etc for new cover. (e.g. waived 12 months waiting period for pregnancy)

      • so only if you go one up, or otherwise we get nothing ey

        • Not sure about downgrade, you should ask. I am sure they are under a bit of pressure now.
