Best Way to Use Velocity/Krisflyer Points?

Hey

Could anyone if allowed provide links to websites where I can learn to use these points?

I feel like I'll never find a business class route to use, I have 450k points, easily could have 600k as I haven't updated credit cards in years either.

I was hoping to fly business to Europe in July, but doubt anything is available with Singapore.

Do you need to book 12 months in advance? Any tips?
I couldn't even find business flights to LA, only standard flights with points.

It all looks so complex, any tips to learn and research would be great.

Thanks

Best use i've seen of velocity/kris flyer points, and what I'm saving for.

I recently booked return business class on SQ from Perth to Athens during the school holidays with no problems. Virgin’s The Business is also wonderful for domestic flights. Last year I went Perth to Madrid on Etihad business class (before they increased the fee per segment - SQ is now a much better deal). Don’t give up before you try.

    • Where did you book the flights? Just through the Krisflyer website?

I'd be happy to fly out of anywhere in Australia, if it meant using my points for business class and I read Singapore has the most flights with reward seats.

      • Yes I sure did. Checked availability and then transferred velocity points to KrisFlyer. It took about 3 minutes to appear in KrisFlyer account so no fear that the seats would disappear before I could book them. I ended up booking 4 separate tickets for the trip over a couple of months because I booked as soon as I had enough points - consistently only a couple of minutes to transfer the points.

      • Also the route Singapore-Istanbul isn’t as popular as others…

Reward business class flights on Velocity become available 330 days in advance (11 months) and they usually sell out within weeks especially for popular routes to London, Paris etc. Also remember that if you're booking flights for more than 1 person, don't book them separately. Get the other person/people to transfer points to one person and one person should book flights for all. That's because they don't tell you how many seats are still available until it's too late.

11 months ahead, wow! I book holidays 2 months ahead hahaha, most of my friends are not that organised. It would be easier if I had a partner for sure! Thanks for the heads up

      • Economy rewards is a different story, should be plenty of availability if it's not peak period. I think July isn't peak period for Europe in terms of weather but may coincide with school holidays. Good luck!

      • If you want to book premium classes(Business/First), you'll need to book a lot more in advance as the premium class reward seats get picked up very quickly as they represent the best value for money. If you leave it till last minute, you may be able to score some but you'll have to be VERY flexible with regards to timing then as you're then at the mercy of what everyone doesn't want.

  • Thanks, will have a quick look in Krisflyer and lesson learned, book flights way ahead! Its hard when dealing with friends!
