I don't believe there will be a problem doing an RMA on a WD hard drive bought overseas. You just fill out an RMA request and then post it to their Sydney office. When I did this a few years ago I requested a RMA, got a free prepaid package to ship it out in and received a new product as it was verified broken.
I've done a few and after mail being received you usually get the drive back or a new one in a week or so.

@marko62: Apologies, recently it seems they removed the sata interface and it can no longer be shucked.

    • The answer is NO. As far as i know if you want a drive for use in another device you need to buy a Seagate. I have needed 2 drives for shucking within the last 6 months and all my searching lead me to that conclusion.

      • Obviously you didn't watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2a6dkAZ6xY

        • +2

That video is more than 2 years old. WD have changed the way they do things since then. You need to look for more recent information

A true ozB'er would cop a 8tb for the best $:TB ratio. If you won't use all the extra space over a 4tb then you aren't even trying

    • A true ozB'er would cop a 8tb for the best $:TB ratio.

There is no 8TB in a 2.5" form factor.

      • Yeah only goes up to 4TB for 2.5' inch Portable drives. I think your confused with the 8TB 3.5' wall powered drives.

I'm not confused, you mean hetzjagd.

And there are 5TB 2.5" drives from Seagate.

        • @Maverick-au: Sorry was replying to the first post forgot to tag him.

PLEASE - will this go into a ps4?

OzBargain has this new feature called search and using this feature you would find that the answer is no. And not just because of the size of the drive but because there is no SATA interface.

      • sorry mate how do i search for does xxx work on a ps4? is the info in comments or forum?

    • Ps4 released the external drive feature last year, just plug it in

  • Could I use it with my android phone (nokia 3) and otg cable or would i need to buy an usb hub as well?

    • The power draw would be too high. So probably not. I think that function is for USB pen drives.

      • Also for USB devices in general, e.g. cameras, modems, etc.

the 6tb elements is roughly the same price on newegg so this is a rip really. Amazon know what they're doing.

    • +1

NewEgg charge twice as much as Amazon for postage!

      • -1

That's a lie. It's not even the same price and 6 tb drives are around 180USD and shipping is more than double on Newegg.

          https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682223…

LINK WILL NOT TAKE BACK TO US SITE. To do that change currency back to us dollars you'll see 129.99

          Add code 109.99 us price.

As for shipping need a freight forwarder to get us price.

Point is and was amazon price for a 6tb is NOT 109.99 us. They could match that easy but make money with higher prices and cheaper shipping from saps like us.

So trolls where's your amazon declared interest cuz I'm not seeing it…

          @mouth:
This is a 4TB portable drive with USB power. That's a much bigger and heavier 3.5' Desktop drive requiring wall power.
Its not even the same item that you linked?

WD Elements 6TB USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive WDBWLG0060HBK-NESN Black
          Subtotal: AUD$170.00
          Shipping: AUD$31.57
Total=$201.57AUD is $65 more expensive for a much bigger product rquiring wall power. So yes you are indeed wrong…

        • @Levity: NewEgg shipping is more expensive than Amazon, almost double. NewEgg makes their unit prices lower and charge more in shipping. That's the statement I made, that statement is correct, it is not a lie. It's not about what unit you are buying, but that the shipping to AU from NewEgg on identical units is always more expensive than Amazon. Prove me wrong!

  • +1

How does warranty work when you buy from Amazon US? Can you claim locally with with WD and Seagate?

  • Has anyone bought this?
Wondering if it comes with AU power adapter or US.

    • The Desktop version is cheaper, that's the one I meant.
