Customers who sign up to a new amaysim energy plan at amaysim.com.au/energy using the promocode provided to the customer via email …

Do we need to receive an email from amaysim with the code BEATS18? Os is it that anyone who applies with the code BEATS18 is eligible?

    • prices are a bit high, but they have a 40% discount for usage & supply charges which evens it out?

      • +9

        which evens it out

        Have you calculated it?

I doubt you have since the steaming pile of shit that is the electricity system is arranged so retailers - whose role is to simply scam customers into a high price and bill them, a needless parasite inserted to simply rip people off - are allowed to create complex plans such as whatever the crap 2 posts above you is so the plans are impossible to compare. Then they inform people that they're getting a 40% discount

If you voted Liberal or Labour you voted for this awful system that charges you the highest prices on the globe.

If you vote for these pigs again you are saying it's OK and you want to eat more crap (meaning: lose your money to wealthy people who control the two parties you foolishly voted for).

        • +1

          Whoa… unhinged much?

There's a usage calculator on the website and they seem upfront about the fees and charges. I know how many KW I use and what the daily supply charge is, so I take 35% off for a pay on time discount and end up with what I will be paying.

        • They are the cheapest for me (Postcode 3024) when compared against 5-6 retails who are cheaper as per govt comparison website.

        • +2

I upvoted for my Tuesday crazy quota

      • +1

Just bear in mind that they apply discount to the next billing period so in essence you'll have to pay full price for the first and last billing period so it might not be cheaper eventually.

    • very useful warning. wonder if lumo which I am with is better?

  • +2

Sooo, I can cancel after 1 month?

    • Yes but you may not get the beats as they say it can take up to 90 days.

Safer to stick with them till you have the headphones delivered.

Given they're pricing actually seems to be competitive, I'm thinking I'll probably just stick with them even after getting the beats. Winter is coming and I'll need gas anyway.

No idea about their electricity costs though so I might look into switching Thai over too to get another pair of beats

      • The 90 days will be the switch from the old provider to new, allowing for a non smart metered property that is manually read every 3 months. If you are on a smart meter, you will be switched at maximum in 30 days on the end of that cycle.

  • I might actually save cash going from Origin to Amaysim energy and get a free pair of headphones.

    This was my last bill:
    https://i.imgur.com/RgUcTDB.jpg

I know electricity prices have skyrocketed, but for someone using a ~9kw a day I've always thought I have been overpaying.

    • according to amaysim calculator, for your 30 days you would only be paying $81.52 with the pay on time discount..

  • So you only need to switch gas OR elec - not both right?

    • Correct

    • Yeah good question. I just transferred my electricity as I have written below, but not gas, so wondering if I can get around it like that…

  • Dammit, I just switched to them last week…

    • +2

There's a 10 day cooling off period. Cancel and then apply again?

    • +2

cancel during cooling off period and sign up again

    • Did you get the 30% off everything + $125 credit deal though? That is still active as well. Don't think u can combine.

Just say u got an email invite for the former, they will know.

      • No I only got like a $50 Woolies voucher or something, seems like a terrible deal :(
I have just looked, looks like I am outside the 10 day cooling off period too! Spewing.

        • +1

you should still be able to talk them into this deal if youa re within cooling off period and it saves them cancelling the transfer and signing you up again.

  • Thanks OP… I Signed up. I'm hoping this works even if its only gas transfer.

  • Thanks OP.

Compared their rates to my current gas bill with Energy Australia and come out slightly better. The daily supply charge is where I currently seem to be paying a lot more (15 cents a day more). Other than that, the actual supply rates are pretty similar.

Also only getting a 10% on time discount with Energy Australia.

  • Thanks OP.

Compared and calculated my usage based Amaysim rate to my current provider at Dodo.

I'll be paying $1.50 more for my gas usage, but I'll be saving $60 on my electricity.

The difference is: Dodo discount on Usage only, but Amaysim discount on Usage and Supply. The gas rate on Dodo is better, but the Electric rate on Amaysim is better.

  • In Brissie with AGL and worked out over last electricity bill and I would be worse off by $21.40 for 2.5 months. Their .27.7 vs my .26 and daily supply charge 1.16 vs $1 so even with their discount it still doesnt work out

    • You could always switch back to agl after receiving the free headphones. Potentially agl might have a sign up bonus to offer for new clients too

      • Had considered that as Alinta offering 28% of now so might be worth it just to come back with better than the 26% I am on now. and new headphones thrown in for the 22 bucks

        • and then switch back to AGL for their 10000 flybuys points ($50 coles), $50 electricity credit and $50 has credit. Win!

    • 30c and 1.27 for brissy after gst

  • Not in WA

    • +2

Consider yourself lucky then. Once your state deregulate electricity market you'll be worse off unless you want switch providers every few months.

      • totally agree

  • How to know, which Energy price fact sheet I should consider for VIC. There are Electricity 1,2 and 3 and then further sub-prices? Quite confusing!

    • +1

When signing up it will give you the options of which plan you can select depending on who is the energy wholesaler in your area.

In my case through Citipower, all the plans had the same costs anyway. I could only select 'Electricity 2' though.

      https://www.amaysim.com.au/energy/energy-price-fact-sheets

  • We just moved to VIC from Tassie. We get no options in Tas. Just one provider. Here was a mess to get connected. Just too many lies from all companies mentioned here. If I move electricity companies, do I need to tell the old one or just do it?

    • Did the same move north although a few years ago now. Similar process to porting a mobile phone, sign up with the new provider and let them do the work. No need to contact your current retailer. Depending on your current retailer, you may get a letter or phone call from them “pleading” to keep you, may offer a deal, but do your sums and work out the best. You don’t have to agree to anything your old provider sends, just let the new provider switch you over.

      • Is there some kind of transfer fee? I read somewhere that you may need to pay to disconnect/reconnect but maybe it was referring to moving or rentals or something

        • generally move in and move out fees may apply. Most retailers now are no cancellation fees on their contracts, just need to check the fine print with your current retailer. Look for “Camcellation fee: $0”

  • Just did my calculations for the AusNet locations for those who are interested.

It works out cheaper than my current Red Energy plan.

On a base 55 day calculation with 983kWH usage:
    Rate 31.14c/kWh
    Service charge of $1.14/day
Discount on total bill = 10%
    Credit card fee 0
    Total Cost: $330

    Amaysim Anytime balance Plan
    Rate 35c/kwH
    Service charge $124.40/day
Discount on total bill = 35%
    Credit card fee 0.6%
    Total Cost: $314.

Sounds like a small win for me already, without the wireless Beats headset yet.

  • Is the disconnection fee on moving out, as mentioned in T&C for NSW plan, ~200$ pretty much standard irrespective of the provider ?

    any idea ?

    • I thought they can't charge disconnection fees any more?

      • That is contract termination fee, but when i selected amaysim plan, right in the end T&C mentions that there is a disconnection fee around 198$ if I plan to move out but that is charged by energy supplier and not Amaysim.

        • +1

so that covers their cost price of the beats

        • @asa79:

charged by ausgrid/whoever and its only if you move house, not when you change provider

    • Nah you only get charged around $7 for a final meter read.
The disconnection is for a physical disconnection which generally they do not do if you are just moving out and not demolishing the house.

  • Thanks OP, been meaning to get some new wireless headphones for around the house and this deal does work out cheaper then my current deal with Origin.
Which ive been meaning to change anyways.
    I'll save about $20 a month.

  • thanks
Was switching to energy australia (sick of AGL last week and signed up to move last week) but this should be a decent deal and I'll re-asses in a few months once the headphones turn up :)

The fact you need to regularly change energy suppliers these days to get a good deal is annoying

  • Promotion subject to change without notice and may be withdrawn at amaysim’s discretion

    • +2

      as with any promotion…

  • At least you mainlanders can change energy providers. Here in TAS we get to choose from 1 company who has the monopoly. Aurora are dogs and can charge whatever they feel.

    • Well, in my case, Tassie was much easier and cheaper (so far). At least you know what you are getting in Tas.

Aurora was costing me about $1,400 a year (with concession). I had to get AGL here in Melbourne because they were the only ones who didn't lie to me. But it will cost me $1,900 a year.
If I change to this amaysim gas and electricity, it will cost $1,300 a year.

      • I’ve been in Melbourne 6 years, when I first moved here it was way cheaper than aurora, but now looking at rates between here and tassie, it’s pretty close to the same.

  • Just signed up with them today, went for the $250 credit on my plan. Now confused if this is a better value deal.

  • They're $269 on kogan. Unless it's a different version?

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/beats-by-dr-dre-solo3-wireless-…

Just in case you're valuing this into your transfer

  • Signed up a few days ago for electricity using $250 credit deal but thinking of changing gas over too. Anyone have any luck doing this under same name?

    • I did gas only yesterday. Will try the $250 credit today for electricity.

      Hoping to get both!

      • I'm going to try too

        • likely they will use this clause to make it invalid, unless you sign up under a different email/name (and they dont link addresses)

"Available to new amaysim energy accounts only"

        • @SBOB: thanks for the tip, signed the other half up for gas

        • @SBOB:

          Depends how you interpret it

"Available to new amaysim energy electricity or gas accounts only."

          https://www.amaysim.com.au/dms/amaysim/documents/terms-condi…

    • mate ,i cant find the $250 credit deal ..any link please

I received an email from them with the deal and it says it ends today

          Here's the T&C
          https://www.amaysim.com.au/dms/amaysim/documents/terms-condi…

        • @jiakz: thanks for that. What's a reasonable time to stay with Amaysim before switching to someone else and then back to amaysim? Anyone a serial switcher?

        • thanks mate

        • @imissbeans:

Wouldn't know yet, still in the process of switching.
Very likely once you leave the previous company, they'll call you back offering you a better deal to lure you back.

  • Has anyone got it confirmed in the sign up email that they applied for the beats?

I can't find any information in that email that I used the code when signing up. Just want to make sure that I will get the beats, because if not then the Yamaha bluetooth headphones on the frontpage right now seem like a good deal.

    • +1

No it does not say in the sign up email

      • but did have it on the sign up confirmation page (which i pdf'd)

Planning on staying with them long enough to get some headphones and then swap out again :)

  • -1

I called them and they know about Ozbargain and have taken the deal down. Only customers who got the email get the deal so not worth keeping the account but can negotiate to the $ 250 deal on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/369400

  • Like the dodo, this promo code is now extinct.

  • Should have signed up earlier!

  • will my credit rating be affected if I keep porting out and into utility suppliers ?

    • No

      • Thanks for the response.
I was shit scared that my credit rating would be affected as this is my second port in 6 months.

I know porting in and out of prepaid mobile providers wouldn't affect as they do only an Identity check. Not sure why the utility providers take our Driving License details while registering.

  • Has anyone been contacted by them yet? I've received a few emails earlier in the week saying they will get in contact with me over the next few days, but they haven't.

It's been a week since I signed up, and during that period I received a bill from my provider. I guess that means I won't be getting it for another month at least.

    • Still waiting to receive a phone call

    • I started a chat with them to confirm the BEAT18 code successfully applied. They confirmed yes said a code for the headphones would be emailed in the next few weeks.

  • Ok so I called them up and confirmed this promotion will be applied only for existing amaysim users who got the targeted email. So i wasnt eligible and told them to cancel my transfer request

    • +1

It was a promo code for new accounts?

I'll be reporting them to the ombudsman when it comes time that they tell me I won't be getting a pair, I suggest everyone in this thread do the same.

      • new energy accounts .. but existing customers from their sim & broadband plans maybe?

  • Has anyone received a call from Amaysim yet to confirm the transfer? My understanding was that they'd call but I still haven't heard from them

  • Got email now for PowerBeats 3 using code "POWER18", expires April 19 or while stocks last.. hmmm

    • Would it be possible for you to screenshot the email and upload it to imgur or something? Might be helpful to us that have made the switch but haven't heard anything about the headphones and might have to contact them and fight to get what we signed up for.

  • Well I never got a phonecall, but today I received an email that I am now connected to Amaysim Energy.

No mention of the headphones in the email though. I'll call them in the next few days to ask how to redeem the headphones now that I am connected. I'm really hoping it goes through smoothly.

One thing I am really worried about is that it says in that email that "You've chosen to pay your bill in fixed installments of $130.00 for the first two months. Your third month's charges will be based on actual usage figures, and can be quite different to the previous two bills."

I never agreed to this, it was never in the quote. I'll have to call them to clarify, but so far I have to say like it feels I was baited and switched from a cheap plan with free headphones to an expensive plan with no headphones.

  • Amaysim email code after transfer of electricity or gas has taken place, I have received code and delivery is on route and expect to receive it today.

    • They sent you a code to redeem the headphones in an email?

      • yes

        • I was informed today by Amaysim that they send the code for the headphones once the first bill has been paid, not once transfer has taken place.

  • ported for Energy Australia to Amaysim 3 weeks ago and received a confirmation email saying they own the supply to my property.

We might move out from the existing place(tenanted) and was told my Amaysim that the disconnection fee is $166, where as for AGL & Energy Australia it's less than $20.

  • +1

Apparently, the Beats headphones is one of the gadgets they are offering as a freebie when you sign up with them. You get to choose between Google Home Speaker, Samsung Galaxy Tab A, Beats headphones, Sony Xperia XA and the most expensive is the Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit 2 Pro.

    • Awesome, but the headphones are the most expensive, no?

Actually that Galaxy Tab A could be, do you know the specs for the one they have?

      • Depends which beats they are going to give you.. The Beats Headphones finished a long time ago which was the most expensive, now the Samsung Gear fit 2 Pro holds the title.

  • Haven't received anything yet re the beats headphones. disappoining
