Bosch Series 8 9kg Washing Machine $1,256.40 (+ $100 Cashback) @ Appliances Online on eBay

P10EASTER

Model: WAW28640AU

The Bosch washing machines seem to get great reviews.

As I understand, this is an “exclusive to some stores” equivalent of the WAW28620AU, with very minor differences. So minor in fact that the Bosch Customer Support couldn’t tell me what they were. Have also confirmed that this model is also made in Germany despite the lack of info on the Bosch website. Also confirmed by customer support that this is a current model.

The closest deal I’ve found so far is $1440 for the WAW28620AU from TGG 10% off last night, which didn’t come with delivery and installation.

  • I think it's more that they update their models every year or so even when there is no practical difference. It's frustrating trying to compare but also an opportunity to get the old one cheap. Seems like you found the new one cheap!

    • I spoke with someone at TGG and asked why they didn’t carry this model. I was told that for certain large retailers, Bosch will create exclusive models that vary slightly to the “generic” product. That slight variance are things like internal light, different wash modes and other small features etc. TGG even have their exclusive models, just not in the 9kg range.

At the end of the day, it seems like the machines will all look and work the same. Even Bosch customer support suggested “just go for the cheaper one”. But I agree, it certainly makes it challenging for the consumer to decipher when buying.

  • Not sure what the advantage of this one is over the 2846 (which I bought for 995 delivered in December) besides the 0.5kg extra.

That said, still great machines. Serie 8 and above are the ones made in Deutschland if that matters to you.

    • its actually 8kg vs 9kg and the 2846 does not have the "active oxygen" blabla.

I bought the 28460 over a month ago and it had a faulty bearing after a couple of washes, Bosch came out inspected it and replaced it no questions asked. it comes with manufacturer 24month warranty but I still bought the extended warranty.

      • ah yes, mine is 8kg, whoops. Thank you. Okay cool, then adding an upvote, this is a good deal!

        • I paid 949$ for the 28460 in Feb so not sure whether the additional Oxygen Feature is that much of a bonus

    • It's not just 8kg vs 9kg, it's also the volume. The extra 1kg/volume means you can shove a lot more clothes in.

    • Also looks like the 9kg has iDOS - just fill it with detergent and softeners and let the machine decide how much to use. Good for lazy people who don’t want to think too hard or add detergent every wash.

  • Great machines. Our Siemens S14-44 (same thing) is now around 10 years old, we've had a broken door catch (bodge repair holding well), and an Aquastop issue - again there's a Youtube solution for that. Does 1-2 washes a day.

    • +1

My LG has a broken door latch. It's fantastic, I can open the door and add more clothes.

      • You can pause the Bosch/Siemens series 8 machines anytime during the wash to add/remove clothes.

        • Wondering if the water will leak from the door if you open it after it is filled up with water?

        • @wtfnodeal:

If it machine fills up above the door, then you won't be able to open the door.

However some machines won't open the door once the cycle starts. That's why I like my current machine.

        • @JB1:

The LG will open during a cycle but it takes about 3 minutes before the door unlocks.

    • ~10 loads of washing a week?

      • Yeah that’s mental. Is the guy running a laundromat?

        • +2

You guys don’t have kids 😂

        • @LoopyLou:
Two young kids here. 10 washes per week sounds about right.

Although, with a bigger machine now, I’m hoping we can combine some of the loads we’ve previously had to split.

        • @LoopyLou:

We have 2 kids and a 10kg machine.

Even at our peak, no more than 4 a week.

Now it's down to 2 only done on the weekends. Colours and Whites.

        • @JB1: Yep, I have three kids, 2-4 washes a week is about right.

          Bigosmallo: A brothel.

        • 4 boys.
          Rugby season at the moment.
Just did 4 today, 2 for sheets and towels.

  • Just curious what brand is good for a washing machine? I have a Electrolux just broke down yesterday after 9 years of use and wondering if should get the same brand or another this time?

    • +1

      Umm… Bosch.

      • Any good deals to buy one?

        😂😂😂😂

        • Do a search, you might find one.

    • For longevity… LG top loader.

      • My parents’ LG top loader has been going for (I reckon about) 20 years now without skipping a beat. It served our family of two boys very well. The last 7 have been serving my brother’s young family.

My Maytag on the other hand has given up after about 9 years.

  • "This item is out of stock."

  • Doesn't post to Perth… :(

  • I have had this for about 2 years. Great machine but I would think twice about getting a front loader again.

Even on the slowest spin setting, it dries the clothes too much. Which I believe has lead to the deteriorating and premature wearing.

Towels which would have lasted another 5 years are ripping etc.

    • Had mine for 10 years, using lower (not lowest) spin speeds (sometimes higher) and it's been fine.

  • This model Bosch x Miele W. Which one would you guys go?

    • +1

Miele is the Apple of appliances i.e. ridiculous prices for a product that's nothing special. And this 'agency' crap has should be illegal (surely it is already!)

  • Since when $1200+ become a bargain for a washing machine? I thought $600-700 would be ok and $500 would be a bargain.. Is it about a loading kilos?

  • Ordered. With these machines, it's more the component and materials used that determine the quality rather than where it is put together. If it's not put together correctly, you'd have it fail within the 24 month warranty period.

  • Had mine delivered yesterday. Service was quite good. Very prompt and plenty of notice on delivery time. Set was quick and easy (by the delivery guys.)

    Initial thoughts:
    1. Machine is extremely quiet. All you hear is buttons on the clothes rattling around.
    2. Clothes have come out cleaner. Specifically, very noticeable on the collars of my work shirts.
    3. Pretty lights.

    • What did you have before?
