Hey guys, this is an awesome way to turn any Thunderbolt/USB-C Ultrabook or laptop, into a Gaming Laptop.

The best part? You can change/upgrade the GPU & HDD inside! - so if you ever want to upgrade it down the track, wack a 1070/1080 in there or SSD in there! Already comes with a 1TB HDD for extra storage when you plug this in. Ripper unit!

  • This would have been great for VR, if only it was at least the 6GB Gpu. Those wanting an upgrade would likely want at least a 1070 too imo.

But I bet that stock is taken up by the blockchain miners.

  • Does your laptop need Thunderbolt 3 for this?

    • Hi Igipopa,

Yes - although most laptops with USB-C/3.1 are Thunderbolt ready. Just look for the little lightning sign under the port.

      • No good :/
        Great deal though! +1

$597 on their official website, $648 on their eBay site. Therefore, this is not a 20% discount of their normal price.

    • Did they say it was 20% off their normal price?

If you want to support price jackers, go ahead.

Accounting for eBay fees is more likely..

          Hi PlushToys,

Transacting on eBay has many additional fee's when compared to our website. Also, the advertised price that you mention on our website, is $597 + shipping.

$518.40 for a GTX1060-3GB and 1TB HDD + Dock is currently the best price in Australia, and an awesome deal - considering just the GPU's are going for $399+ alone.

Lastly.. We don't "Price Jack" - these eBay 20% off sales are a killer. The fee's almost topple at 17% alone. When the price is already low, we aren't going to sell under our cost/wholesale; this wouldn't be feasible.

          @XeKToReX:

You are spot on with this mate!

        • If you want to support price jackers, go ahead.

Do you know what site you're on?

What matters is what the final price is.

If you were just about to buy one today at $597 and suddenly came across this $518 deal, would you buy it at $518 or would you happily put your money where your mouth is and pay the full $597?

    • $621.92 from JW's website once you add shipping and 1% credit card fee. Call it ~16.6%

  • Are there any cheaper options for external GPU, possibly with lower specs?

    • Not at the moment unfortunately @edrift

  • +1

This is actually a really good price, considering JB HI FI / Harvey norman sell this without the GPU/1TB HDD for $500.

    the GTX 1060 3gb alone is $350-400

    • Thanks xEnt!

  • Rep, any chance of swapping the HDD for a better GPU?

Can recommend JW Computers. Great service.

    • Thanks @TheOneWhoKnocks - appreciate the feedback mate.

can u use this with mac ?

    • Keen to know this too. Specifically will it work on a Thunderbolt 2 mac (obviously at slower speeds).

    • +1

      Hi guys,

Natively it doesn't seem to be supported at the moment from what I've been reading; apparently you can run custom scripts etc, but native support is apparently coming in an update soon!

@Adumicic Needs to be Thunderbolt 3 unfortunately, wont support Thunderbolt 2 sorry!

The shell itself supports MacOS https://egpu.io/macos-high-sierra-official-external-gpu/.
You need the additional driver for NVidia GPU and it is not hard to find https://egpu.io/forums/mac-setup/wip-nvidia-egpu-support-for… or it's easier you have AMD one inserted.

        • +1

          Thanks for that @owen14d,

It appears that the RX580's are the only "officially" compatible with macOS cards with the shell - please note the corresponding additional Driver in the link posted in your reply is not an official release by HP though (so it's to be used at own risk).

Reading through, it seems to be pretty solid however!

          Thanks again mate.

    • This one works with mac via thunderbolt 3

Surprised this isn't getting more love, with current GPU prices this is a great deal for an off the shelf solution.

  • whats the supplied power supply wattage?

    • 500W - Recommended to use GPU's up to 300W.

  • Arrgh… Missed it!!

    • It's back on, and works out cheaper than before! Use CODE PLUGNPLAY : $517.60 delivered
