[Expired on Posting] Xiaomi Mi Power Strip - 3 Sockets w/ 3 USB Ports $8.99US, 6 Sockets w/ 3 USB Ports $10.72US @ AliExpress

Moved to Forum: Original Link

AliExpress seller pulled the deal. Sorry guys nothing to see here!

Sale starts at 6pm tonight, and cheaper than the previous deals.

These are great if you have a lot of devices with different plugs or travelling as it takes AU, CN, US and EU plugs. It also has 3 USB ports for charging up to 2.1A. Xiaomi have good build quality and I've been using multiple versions of these for years without issue.

Both power strips come with an AU/CN type plug, but you can choose an additional adapter if you intend to use it overseas. The 3 socket variant is available in Black and White.

Just like last time. Refer to Xiaomi Powerstrip Bingo. These are safe.

bu' muhhh house will burn down!

Real talk though: if there is a wiring fault and this power board is found to be the source, will there be insurance issues? I don't know enough about electrical certification. It's good to know that boards manufactured to spec are not a safety hazard but every production line has manufacturing faults.

      • +4

In the years these have been posted no one has been able to prove home insurance being void. I personally don't leave mine switched on 24/7. I'd consider these to be much safer than the cheapies you get at Kmart.

        • +2

I mean that's all well and good until you're out the cost of home and contents though? Like that's your entire life's possessions to save $20 on a power board.

Does it comply with AS4417.1, and does it have compliance markers (I would assume not)? If it does not, is that an insurance issue (I would assume so)?

@get-innocuous: Products sold in Australia require certification, but there is nothing illegal about importing them yourself for personal use.

This has been done to death in previous posts, there is no insurance risk as you can import electrical products for personal use. And if you're so concerned read your PDS which everyone should have done already.

        • Plus these appear to be extremely well made. Far better than the $3 powerstrip from BigW.

@gadgetguy: Can you link me to your teardown of the device, along with your degree in electrical engineering? Thanks!

      • +1

The issue isn't whether the board is at fault, but rather one is "close enough" to the real issue that scummy insurance companies use that as an excuse to void any claim.

I use a Belkin PureAV powerboard with the connected equipment guarantee (it's really old so probably expired long ago lol) and in the T&Cs it has pretty similar conditions like only covering 3-pin earthed devices, must not be travel adaptor, etc.

TLDR; don't trust insurance companies who will use anything as an excuse

    Excellent price.

    • +2

I know right! Like I already have 4 but I really wanna get them hmmmm

  • The only bad thing about these boards is they dont include a switch for individual sockets. yes i know you can b uy the version that does have them but its significantly more.

    • Do you have a link to the one with individual switch? Would be great if that version is on sale too.

      • not sure which site you mean, they are on about of normal sites, just at double cost.

  • Clear: can you ask if they can do a bargain on the xiaomi power strip storage box …

  • +3

Thanks, got the tape as well.

    • +1

      Classic, lol :)

  • can this be use in Asia countries? eg. HK/japan/korea? thx

    • Why not?

Too bad AliExpress doesn't accept Paypal.
I do not want to give out my credit card details.

    • +2

Heaps of OzBargainers have made purchases without issue. You could possibly even use AliPay which is larger than Paypal. Either way your CC company will help out in the very unlikely chance of fraud.

    • I was hesitated at first too but haven't had an issue ever. Same jist as Paypal, no trouble getting the odd refund paid into it here or there.

  • waiting for smart version

    • I checked and they're all 19US+. Looks like they're not included in the sale unfortunately.

    • I had the 6 port smart one and was very disappointed.

For a start the smart control only applies to the whole board not individual sockets so it’s not that much better than a Mi Socket + $3 Kmart powerboard.

Secondly the smaller non earthed (2 pin) sockets actually grabbed the plastic insulation on the top of the power plug pins so strongly that it tore the plastic off when I removed it. I was lucky I was using a MacBook charger where the plug is easily swappable, but I’ll never use those 3 ports again.

  • So if I want a US adapter then I pick US? It'll come with the CN/AU plug and a US adapter?

I want a US adapter to use in JP.

    • That's correct.

USB ports on these die within a couple of months.

  • Any update on power monitoring version release?

  • Where can I plug my EU devices into?

    • Look at the plug below the diagonal AU plug hole. That section will take the round EU socket.

  • Iam only seeing $19.99 USD for 6 sockets and $14.17 USD for 3 sockets. Am I missing something?

    • +1

Yes. There are 2 places that tell you. Perhaps read the first line of the deal? The bold should make it clearer.

      • Thanks Clear for clarifying, was in a rush before :)

  • Is that 6pm AEST??

    • Correct.

  • 6pm AEDST (Sydney/Melbourne time). You can see the clock counting down with less than 10 minutes to go

  • Dont forget cashrewards

  • USB ports aren't very good on these, to slow to charge phones imo

    • thats because they are 2.4 max for one USB and 3A for all 3, so you cant charge 2x 2.4 :(

  • +1

Showing US $18.52 for 6 outlet and US $13.49 for 3 outlet…. What am I doing wrong?

  • +2

They did the old aliexpress sale strat with the 6 plug. JP out of stock being very cheap, rest of em normal price.
edit: Same on 3plug. No deal here.

  • The 6 port doesn't show up at USD10.72 for me.

    • Just a FYI in future. You can't neg if the price isn't correct. You use the Report button.

      • Fair enough sir…sorry, person.

  • +4

This is disappointing!!! The seller pulled a dodgy and made the Black $8.99 US on the 3 Socket and the 6 socket $10.72 US on the JP. I'll expire the deal.

Sorry guys I had no idea this would happen.

    • +1

Happens. I've found if you see a large difference in sale price on aliexpress (ie. $14-$25) but it's all the same/similar item they will probably pull this crap.

    • +1

Looks like they have been tampering with the price (pun intended Clear).

    • all good. Next time

  • +2

I feel like I have been scammed even though I haven't bought anything! :)

    • +5

How do you think I feel? Feels like I scammed the entire community.

      • +1

All good mate, your intentions were good.

      • +1

can I neg vote your deal to make more upset :).. nah just kidding, thanks for the effort anyway..

      • How could you! You have cheated the whole of Australia twice in a week! When is the press conference for this one?

  • Aliexpress page description states "..smart.." Please confirm if this is the smart version for 3 and 6 sockets version? Im aware that there is a new 3 socket smart(wifi) model. I have at home 6 socket smart version that stopped being controlled by HomeAssistant after a firmware upgrade last night.

  • Im negging not because of OPs post but ali expresses "sale" tactics. All these bulls*** prices. Either they cant math (unlikely) or they are dodgy.

  • 14.99 zapals but shipping kills it - 6 socket

A teardown from a guy who definitely knows his stuff:

A useful site for checking out various Chinese USB power banks/chargers, etc.
